Why would they bother generating faces? I assumed that there must be some database of personal portraits out there that you could draw from.
Likely due to various market research data about people trusting human faces more, I'd imagine. GANs also avoid any potential lawsuits from citizens who may be annoyed about being made money off so directly, if their country has such privacy laws. And in general lowers the risk of being outed by the original human.
