I serious don't understand why people keep bring up hope that Armored Core will make a comeback, those games were garbage imo. There is a reason why people don't make mech-shooters anymore, because the concept is flawed from the get go as a video game experience.
Well, that's a hot take. How so are mech- shooters "flawed from the get go?" They literally have all the trappings of videogame-play. Whether or not it's done well is another discussion, but calling it fundamentally flawed is a bit much. Look at Titanfall or Chromehounds; there's clearly a market for such games, they just have to be executed properly. As far as I know, Armored Core was more renown for being extremely convoluted; Chromehounds streamlined the idea and garnered a fair enough following in the early Xbox 360 days, and Titanfall was objectively successful.

The Mech Warrior franchise and Daemon Ex-Machina says hi. Titanfall 2 also says hi. There was also that Mech game from Sega XBox 360, that can't be played anymore, cuz it was multiplayer only. Armored Core wasn't a perfect franchise, but it did have good games. It's just a lot of the early ones didn't age well. The reason why there aren't that many mech games now, is because you got people that are lazy, or just don't know what they're doing. Otherwise, ut can be done. The games have to be put in the hands hands of people that care. Plenty of them cared back then.

Ok well first of all Titanfall had mechs, but wasn't really a mech shooter because you could be outside the mech. And IIRC the meta actually suggested that being in mechs was a bad thing, too easy to target but that might have changed. Also if Titanfall was so badass where is Titanfall 3? Just saying.

Mechs are flaws in concept because the games that people are thinking about are based off Mechwarrior, or literally that actually, and those mechs are built upon basically being slow moving, missile launchers. Mechwarrior especially had shit controls, slow paced, and just poor concepts in general.

There is a reason why there aren't mech games all over the place, what mech games do we have today? Gundam Breaker? Are there any games where gameplay is solely mech based? I don't think so, because that kind of combat is done better by other modes of vechicle.

The first Titanfall was just a glorified tech demo with MP that didn't have the staying power of COD. Literally COD with a mech as a semi-afterthought Titanfall 2 is a great game and shooter, but failed to due to being an overcrowded market of shooters. EA literally doomed at the fail by putting it up against Battlefield 1. The good news is that you can still find plenty of people online playing Titanfall 2. Though I only care for the campaign. Right now you ain't saying crap. The reason why there's no Titanfall 3, is because of once again, EA. There is Apex Legends, but that's a spin-off that's set in the TitanFall universe.

Everything else you're saying is bull crap. The reason why there's no met gains, because you have a bunch of people that either don't know or too lazy to bother. The only other reason why you claim there are "no good mech games, is because you never bothered to take the time to know and play the good ones, and count nothing but bad ones without looking further, and only bringing up examples that are not that good to begin with. And you can have fast paced met games be good. Look at Zone Of The Enders or Daemon. A slow pace met game can also work, but it just takes further time and dedication. The reason why so many people based it off Mechwarrior, at the time, is because that's what worked and what was good. Now how anybody else applied was up to them and their own skill level. But that's like saying beat'em ups don't work, because many based theirs off of Final Fight or Devil May Cry.

No telling why there's no Titanfall 3 (yet,) but the assertion that mech games are fundamentally flawed is ludicrous.

I'm not necessarily a fan, but the idea of mechs is literally videogames: controlling a large machine that does the damage. I think the only reason we don't see a proliferation of them is that getting the scale correct to appreciate them is difficult, an exercise in niggling details that most won't notice. I mean, the mechanics are easy enough, but when you want players to appreciate the scope, you're talking about a realistic and appreciable environment that gives the mechs "weight," and most defer to open fields or "cities" that are little more than streets devoid of life and stock buildings that crumble into predetermined piles of burning rubble which makes for a very cheesy experience. It could be done well, we just need someone to do it.

With dodge rolls and explosions?
You forgot patches, who apparently is from AC originally but spends his time in fantasy worlds now, kicking people off of cliffs.

So if he had a mech again, apparently he could kick people much farther off much bigger cliffs.

Just saying.

War of the Monsters was a great example of a game that managed to give a sense of scale and destruction like that. We need to make some group that could go through old games and study the details like people do for old films.

??? The AC game are freaking awesome and I don't see why the concept of building a giant mech from literally thousands of unique part is flawed.

The reason they fell out of popularity is because most people just want to have an easy experience when building something, ie they just want to equip whatever has the highest number/color. The AC game specifically didn't do that and instead every part was viable and, too complicate for general audience and so they stayed as niche game.

Ultimatly the franchise died our because the last game they made was always online, online first experience, which was completly against everything the franchise stood for before hand.

I would actually really like Patches to go full "public domain" amongst developers, and just pop up randomly in games everywhere, even outside of FROM titles. No explanation, just a random quirky character with no ties to any history from his various appearances; just Patches being Patches in the next Mario, Sonic, GTA, Halo, etc. He'd almost be like Q from Star Trek; just doing it because he can.

Random aside, in Chromehounds, I made a mech with a massive sniper canon where it's 'penis' would be. Functionally, it was shit, but I nabbed a couple kills with it, and the chat when I strutted it out on the field was hilarious. Man, I wish that game would have held on for a sequel. Alas, the dick canon exists only in my Xbox 360's memory. Might boot it up to see if it's still there; might take a picture for the screenshots thread...

Would this make Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts a spiritual successor to Armored Core?

I'm worried it's a game by the B-team like Dark Souls 2 and it's going to be a huge disappointment to people after ER.
I'm more worried that it will turn out From Software is pushing their employees to the degree that they will join the long list of other developers which are questionable if one should support financially.

Well it came out less than a year after the expansion for 4 (the last true AC) and before 5 so it'd be a bit awkward to call it a spiritual successor... As an aside, I never really looked up the story behind minecraft but I always wondered if nuts and bolts was an inspiration for it, nutz and bolt (as flawed as it was) feel like it was just a decade too early.

Never really played chromehound since it was another attempt at making online first AC game and I just don't really care about that. I also always confused that game with the other xbox mech game that came with an overpriced controller, causing it to be dead on arrival.

LMAO! He even flipped the other mech over before whipping out the chainsaw! No subtlety there!

Helps that his name is "Patches;" they could wedge him in with update patches, maybe even elbow nudge with him at areas where the game has been patched/updated or with DLC: "I could have sworn this wall was insurmountable only a moment ago. Anyway, why don't YOU jump over... hehehehehe."

Seeing Patches as a sleazy mercenary/info-broker no one likes, nor trust would be hilarious in the DMC or Bayonetta verse. Lady, Bayo, or Jeanne would shoot at him on principle alone. Dante and Nero would mainly throw insults and wisecracks at him. Vergil would find him annoying and threaten to end Patches, if the man did not get out of his vicinity.
