Does he not realize that deleting a tweet means nothing? The Internet never forgets, screwheads!
So was JP always this crazy or is this a recent development? I know he was a darling of the "troubled young men"(or may or may not be incels) group and had a weird obsession with lobsters(despite, or maybe because of, the lobster orgies) but I swear he's becomes more unhinged every time I hear from him.

Yes but there's been an change of degree.

His books before he got big were full of world salad sybolism(The feminine Chaos Dragon) and time cube diagrams but he did sink further when he got into that diet coma.

He used to have a few interesting ideas and observations... if you could be arsed digging through the waffle and bullshit (although generally not necessary as other academics were also covering the same some of stuff without the shitwaffling).

Then he started getting attention, began leaning harder and harder into the culture wars shitfuckery, went through some major personal issues, and all that... So who the fuck knows, maybe he fell down the rabbit hole chasing popularity, maybe he was always nuts and just stopped hiding it, maybe its all some dipshit long con... Don't know, don't care.

He was always crazy, but the problem is that he's also completely incomprehensible. I don't mean French philosophy incomprehensible, I mean just absolute batshit rambling nonsense. Because of this, I think a lot of people found it easy to ignore a lot of his crazy shit because it would inevitably be hidden in a bunch of hour long anecdotes about childrens films or random experiences he had with his neighbours or inexplicable crying. Unfortunately, he's also kind of a brilliant example of how to manipulate that lecture environment to bore/confuse your audience into submission.

Also, a lot of his "fans" became fans through his self-help books, which were clearly written with much more aggressive editing and publisher direction than his academic writing or public speaking.

The moment he clicked for me was his debate with Zizek where he ended up revealing that he's never read Marx, and suddenly he just became completely transparent to me. He's never read any of the people he supposedly disagrees with. That's why he only speaks about them and their motivations in the vaguest possible terms, because he doesn't know enough to be specific. He is an academic who doesn't read. He is exactly the kind of person who the entire system of academia is meant to filter out, and his presence is a textbook example of systemic bias in action.

Like, most academics are not as widely or deeply read as they pretend to be, and sometimes people who aren't very deeply read can still be very insightful and have very coherent or interesting thoughts of their own. But I can't think of any other academic who just openly admits they don't even try and gets away with it by being a tall white man who writes popular self-help books for teenage boys.

Or is it some-one claiming to be progressive dunking on a person who literally has a known degree of brain damage for not realising it was a fetish video?
If that's the case then can we not use that to disqualify him from being an "intellectual".

Also, despite how frequently it happens do you know what I do when I see an image of an idiotic Peterson tweet? I scroll through his mindnumbing braindead tweets to check that it's actually real. I actually verify things before judging him. If he's ot capable of that then I get to ridicule him and every clown baby dipshit that holds him up as some kind of smart person

The fact that he deleted it makes me really assume he actually fully believed it. Hard to tell sometimes do these right wing grifters actually believe what they say or if they just say it to rile up the. The thing about just riling up the base is it doesn't matter if it's a proven lie. We're constantly stuck shooting down the same proven lies over and over again. The fact that he deleted it though really tells me he truly fell for the grift himself. JP isn't just a grifter. He's a grifter who's fallen for the grift himself. He's any other racist uncle with poor media literacy who just happens to have a giant platform.

Peterson effetively stopped being an academic, or even a psychologist, back in 2016 when he publicly blew up with an error-filled complaint about Canadian law on transgenderism, even if it took him a few more years to formally retire.

However, I'm not even sure that was the start. His not much watched YouTube channel used to be filled with old lecture recordings and musings on psychology. Even before his entrance to political debate, he cleaned up his YouTube channel earlier that year to prepare it for a new direction. I cannot help but feel that the new direction was a scheme to raise money and gain adulation throwing meat to the right wing. Thus the other shit, the climate denialism and the cultural Marxism garbage. It's all just grist for the right wing culture warrior mill, and as time has gone on, he's become even more of a crass troll because it earns more money and adulation.

He's a pseudo-intellectual: a man who can show off some high level qualifications and use his intelligence to twist debate. As Terminal Blue says:

It's mostly rhetoric and sophistry, obfuscation, misdirection and piss and wind. But he's also very good at it.

Was this before or after he went on Canadian Public access tv in a fedora to talk about women jumping the bones of testosterone filled men?

I *hate* how much this shit rhymes with the homophobia of my youth. Oh course the hyped up anti-trans detransitioners are transitioning again, conversion therapy is just abuse. But the terfs got to gaslight and hurt somebody in the meantime, before dumping them when they weren't of use anymore

As far as I can tell from a Google search, Peterson in fedora mode is early- to mid-2000s. Although in finding this, I did come across an article from another academic psychologist who attended some of Peterson's classes back in the day, who commented that he felt Peterson was always looking for more public attention and recognition.

This does actually make me think: many academics can be suspicious of other academics who engage heavily with the media. The feeling can be that media-hogging academics are more interested in personal glory than faithfully representing their discipline. To some extent also perhaps that they may be getting an "unfair advantage" by going over the heads of peer review systems by appealing to the general public.

It's sometimes discouraging to see how much we don't "meta-learn", and keep repeating the same horrors on different subjects. But let's also keep in mind that we tend to "learn", at least, and keep repeating the same horrors on different subjects.

Yeah, but the problem is that the current transphobia is being used to loop around back to homophobia. I mean, you'd also think that whole Holocaust thing would've put antisemitism to bed, but nope.

Alternatively, people wanting to inflict horrors are better at learning than those indifferent to other people's problems.

Just saw this, Nikki Haley, one of the republican candidate for president (who has no chance of being picked) claim that social security and medicaid are going bankrupt in 10/5 years, therefore something need to be done. Her solution is to cut the program for those that are currently in their 20s, ie not the people who will use those program in 5/10 years... And she's supposed to be one of the non stupid of the pack.

Eh, it's like the old joke of the politician who wants to increase taxes on everyone below a certain age, that they just happen to be one year older than.
