Just saw this, Nikki Haley, one of the republican candidate for president (who has no chance of being picked) claim that social security and medicaid are going bankrupt in 10/5 years, therefore something need to be done. Her solution is to cut the program for those that are currently in their 20s, ie not the people who will use those program in 5/10 years... And she's supposed to be one of the non stupid of the pack.
That isn't stupid at all. Quite the opposite.

20-somethings pay little attention to politics, are relatively complacent about healthcare because they have few health problems, barely vote, and when they do vote don't much vote Republican. Nikki Haley is proposing throwing a load of people who wouldn't vote for her under a bus for the benefit of those that might vote for her. In terms of getting herself elected, that's smart. I mean, the policy itself doesn't need to be any good and doesn't need to be done. She just needs to send the right signals to voters.

This is the first time I've ever heard of this guy by the way.
Same here. Sounds like another nobody being whining biatch about nothing.

Not much of a milestone for a long while now.

Wants to de-woke libraries, can't define what that means despite writing a book about it
I mean, it's a grift, right; it never meant anything beyond targeting gullible morons for an easy payday. Her call to action is for people to convince libraries to purchase copies of the book she wrote.

To be fair, not a lot of "anti-capitalists" can define capitalism.
...especially in a short blurb in an interview. If I were her I would have expected that question and have already highlighted the relevant passages from my book and started quoting. That way answering the question doubles as an ad for the book she's hawking.

The boring one
I'd argue more capitalists can't considering how many don't know the difference between capitalism and commerce.

Edit: I should say "pro-capitalists" seeing as the majority aren't actually capitalists.
If that's any consolation, those are even more confused about "communism" and "socialism"...

Rowling is rewriting her books again

I always found it wierd that she literally has polyjuice and animages and lycanthropes in her books that anyone can seemingly use to change their sex and/or species and it's considered normal and fine(Hermione turned into a cat girl in one of the movies). However IRL she feels trans people can fuck right off and I can only ask "WTF JK?"

It's been a while but isn't there literally a werewolf teaching at hogswarts and everyone is generally cool with this and it's implied that JK is okay with him being a werewolf and a good person? Am I misremembering this?

Actually, no, people in general aren't ok with it, because they are prejudiced, and only the heroes don't have a problem. And he almost killed Snape once as a kid.

EDIT: One of those things were it's cool to have metaphors about how prejudice is bad, but you can't extend that to actual people. The X-Men films also come to mind.

Ron Desantis thinks that Silicon Valley Bank collapsed because it was more focused on diversity and "being woke" than making money.

And Wall Street Journal writer Andy Kessler opines: “SVB notes that besides 91 percent of their board being independent and 45 percent women, they also have ‘1 Black,’ ‘1 LGBTQ+,’ and ‘2 Veterans.’ I’m not saying 12 white men would have avoided this mess, but the company may have been distracted by diversity demands.”

Greed? Pared-back regulations? Lack of oversight? No, obviously the woes of Silicon Valley Bank came about because everything isn't run by white people anymore.

Even with all that, her prejudice shows through in certain passages. Rita Skeeter, for example, is specifically described as looking generally feminine, except for her "mannish hands". And the fact that she changes forms to get access to places that she shouldn't normally be able to get to for selfish reasons without anyone knowing she's there and WAIT A MINUTE...

...OK, maybe that last bit is a stretch. Hell, it might be. But it does seem weird to specify that Rita Skeeter is apparently attractive except for her masculine hands.

Kind of. After the books she said that Lycanthropy is a stand in for AIDS while forgetting that she had a prominent faction of werewolves be death eaters whose leader deliberately tried to infect kids. I think it was just the one singular good guy werewolf
