Apparently EA is coming out now saying production never even started. I don't believe them.
EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports. Subsequent reports suggest that EA Motive briefly explored new Dead Space concepts, including a new game, but that none...

This is the problem with gaming journalism and even modern dev culture in the AAA-space today. It's finger pointing.
One could reasonably believe either story, whether it's a bitter Dev who doesn't want to work on Battlefield. Or it's EA lying.
The thing to consider is that most publishers do not comment on rumors or accusations unless it's provably false or serious enough that a statement is warranted. This is neither of those things, so the fact that EA made a response to this leads more credibility to them being correct in this aspect. Also keep in mind that shareholders do not like companies cancelling game development without good reason.
Additionally if Motive is making an Iron Man game, and is also being shifted to work on Battlefield, there was likely no development or even pre-development happening on a Dead Space 2 Remake especially this soon after the first game and not with a studio of Motive's size.
I hate to say this because I hate EA, but I think they are correct in this regard and that developer is just trying to start bullshit.
