I really feel like shit for the devs, who made a really successful game that became popular and now they have to deal with this shit that's none of their fault, and might end up losing money over it (refund are apparently being granted and possibly lawsuits cause someone always try). But at the same time, I'd love it if company stopped asking for secondary account sign up and shit for everything that doesn't need it.
And Sony keeps pouring gasoline to the fire! HD2 now has been delisted the game on steam for around 177 countries

Now I've dedcided to do a little research, and turns out there are about 118 countries where PSN isn't available.

Did a cross reference from there, And there are 59 countries that aren't part of the 118 non-PSN countries, but are affected by HD2 delisting:
  • Anguilla
  • Åland Islands
  • Aruba
  • Bermuda
  • Saint Barthélemy
  • Bouvet Island
  • Cocos (Keeling) Islands
  • Cook Islands
  • Curaçao
  • Christmas Island
  • Falkland Islands (Malvinas)
  • Faroe Islands
  • Unknown country code: FX
  • French Guiana
  • Guernsey
  • Gibraltar
  • Greenland
  • Guam
  • Isle of Man
  • British Indian Ocean Territory
  • Jersey
  • Democratic People's Republic of Korea
  • Macao
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Martinique
  • New Caledonia
  • Norfolk Island
  • Niue
  • French Polynesia
  • Saint Pierre and Miquelon
  • State of Palestine
  • Réunion
  • Svalbard and Jan Mayen
  • Saint Helena/Ascension/Tristan da Cunha
  • Sint Maarten (Dutch part)
  • French Southern Territories
  • Tokelau
  • United States Minor Outlying Islands
  • Holy See
  • British Virgin Islands
  • U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Viet Nam
  • Wallis and Futuna
  • Unknown country code: XD
  • Mayotte

I wonder why these 59 were included? Or could that 118 number be wrong?
Most of those aren't really country, like isle of man and such, wonder if they just don't have PSN despite being in country covered? Also, did not know Viet Nam was two word.

As you say, a lot of those are overseas territories or the like, tiny islands in the middle of nowhere so they probably wouldn't appear on a list of countries with no PSN but I doubt they would have it.

Isle of man though? That's just off the UK mainland. Jersey and Guernsey aren't exactly remote. Gibraltar is connected to spain. Makes me wonder if PSN covers places like Scilly Isles, Shetland and Orkney.

So basically this shit storm is game was sold to a bunch of people who wouldn't be able to play it once the new policy came in?

Yeah looking back at those 59 countries on Steam, I'm surprised Steam even acknowledged some of those entities as "countries". I wonder if that means there are games on steam that are available in those places?

In other news, GoT PC port won't require PSN account

Not too surprised, as GoT's main focus is its singleplayer, although I heard that co-op mdoe is awesome. Now that I think about it, almost every single PS PC port so far has mostly been singleplayer-focused games, so I guess PSN requirement really wasn't worth the effort for Sony

Good, fascists can get fucked in this case, people who play Helldivers have supported a fascist coded game. Watching their media darling get ripped to shreds by Sony's business decision is nothing short of pure fucking orgasmic bliss

Blessed be KonradLeijon, BlackRock and the ESG!

It's kind of funny that Sony published a game about radicalized camaraderie that focuses on emergent mass cooperation toward seemingly hopeless goals, and then angered the community in a way that caused them to band together through emergent mass cooperation to torpedo the game.

Bro the game is satire, the same way that the movie Starship Troopers is. It's not "pro-fascist" it's literally satirizing fascism with absolutely no subtlety.

Yeah, it does Nintendo Life. I'm not too bothered by this, but I find it really odd that a GameCube game from the early 2000s can run at 60 fps, but this modern console can't handle it and only runs at 30. What the hell is Nintendo doing? The game is beautiful to look at, but it's not graphically intense nor does it chug much power.

Well some new information has come to light and it turns out that while this was warned to be coming to all players, the original ToS said it would be an optional PSN network sign in in case you wanted to earn trophies or link accounts whatever.

Sony reconned that to force their network functionality which is a dick move. They saw how popular HD2 has become and clearly want to stick their dick in it.

This is what happens when Sony is able to dominate the industry unchecked. How many times have I complained about Xbox sucking a raw hotdog? This is exactly why, when Xbox isn't competing then Sony is free to start fucking people over because there is no other platform to run off too, especially now that Sony is putting their games on PC too.

I want Xbox to get their shit together to put a stop to Sony's bullshit. Monopolies always fuck people over, we need both xbox and playstation to be great so that they keep each other in check.

The only reason Nintendo is keeping their shit together, though they fuck up too, is because they have to control their niche or the other guys will start looking their way.
Competition is kinda beside the point here though, since this isn’t a sales issue it’s a functionality issue. People who got locked out of the game because their region isn’t even supported by Sony should rightfully ***** up a storm as publicly as possible until they change the terms.

Xbox shuts slew of Bethesda studios, including Redfall, Hi-Fi Rush developers
Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog, Tango Gameworks closed.

Xbox has today announced stunning cuts and studio closures affecting a slew of development houses under the Bethesda banner.

Redfall and Dishonored developer Arkane Austin will close, and its online co-op vampire game will not be updated further.

Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks will close. Mighty Doom studio Alpha Dog Studios will close, with its game switched off on 7th August.

Roundhouse Studios, born from the ashes of Human Head Studios, will meanwhile be merged with The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios.

"Today it was announced that Tango Gameworks will close," a notice posted to the studio's X account confirmed. "Thank you to everyone that explored the worlds we created. Hi-Fi Rush along with Tango's previous titles will remain available and playable everywhere they are today."

A similar notice posted to Arkane Studios' X account confirmed Arkane Austin's closure, and the end of all development on Redfall.

"To everyone that has supported the work from our Austin studio over the years, thank you. Thank you for spending time in our worlds and making them your own."

There's an additional issue here in that Redfall owners who purchased the Hero Pass or premium Bite Back upgrade are still awaiting content they paid for as part of this. These players will "be eligible to receive the value of the upgrade", the studio wrote, with a website link now available through which to apply.

The news was broken by an email from head of Xbox game studios Matt Booty sent to staff this morning, as first reported by IGN.

"These changes are grounded in prioritising high-impact titles and further investing in Bethesda's portfolio of blockbuster games and beloved worlds which you have nurtured over many decades," Booty reportedly wrote.

More to follow.

So are FromSoft, Larian, and Nintendo the only studios left that have not laid off people after releasing successful games?

I'm sorry for people who enjoyed Hi-Fi Rush and were hoping for a sequel.

Its a bit of a Twilight Zone experience watching Publishers shuffle game developers like resources in a Strategy game. firing and hiring, shuffling around employees like liquid assets based on quarterly financial figures to meet stockholder expectations. Reminds me of the Real Estate mini-game in Yakuza 0...or was it Yukuza Like a dragon?

It wouldn't surprise me if someone hasn't already published a strategy resource management game about doing exactly this.

Hopefully at some point developers will wise up in en mass and go indie or go into a different field.
