Well, they can always do better and stop half assing it. I make no excuses. Especially for Nazis. It's why we have so many of these problems in the first place. However, Steam does actually remove most stuff targetet at specific individuals. It is just ignoring the wider blanket statements, the stuff that disparages companies and general tasteless and offensive political statements that are still legal.
It is not as if there was no moderation.
Maybe they're keeping it around for SEO reasons. I remember Calandra once saying that's why they merged the v1 archive.Really makes you think, why the heck are we all still here lol. That the forums have been kept alive has to be some kind of oversight. I went back to the homepage for the first time in like a year and a third of the header menu is about online gambling. Crazy.
Is that how cheap the overhead is for these forums? I know there's like two dozen of us, generously, but surely that's still a few hundred dollars a month.Maybe they're keeping it around for SEO reasons. I remember Calandra once saying that's why they merged the v1 archive.
Server costs to keep something like this running? That can be done for a few bucks a month. Is that how cheap the overhead is for these forums? I know there's like two dozen of us, generously, but surely that's still a few hundred dollars a month.
Naw it's barely like Three fiddy. Is that how cheap the overhead is for these forums? I know there's like two dozen of us, generously, but surely that's still a few hundred dollars a month.
To be fair, having certain parts of the wall or floor be shootable without any real indication in a game that requires power-ups to proceed through locked areas is a bit pointlessly obtuse.I stopped taking anything David Jaffe had to say seriously when he claimed that Metroid Dread was a badly designed game.

Yeah, I still don't see the point in designing it like that unless you're trying to hide an optional secret. Does it break the game or make the game bad? No. But games like Hollow Knight and Silk Song do a better job at drawing your eye to investigate. But then I'd say those games do a lot of things better than Metroid: Dread.![]()
The game does everything short of using the 'destructible block' texture that appears when blocks regenerate, including having you shoot an 'inconspicuous' wall earlier so that you know it's a thing that might happen.
I can think of two possibilities: Deliberately not overly holding the player's hand, and that other Metroid games did the same thing and players of those games had little problem figuring it out. Obviously I don't know what was going through the minds of the dev team, but those are my best guesses. And anecdotally, when I played through the game, I didn't have any trouble finding any non-explicitly-indicated breakable blocks.Yeah, I still don't see the point in designing it like that unless you're trying to hide an optional secret.
If they let you ride a horse in the open world it'll be revolutionary!https://www.escapistmagazine.com/news-crimson-deserts-only-difficulty-lets-you-play-it-as-hard-or-as-easy-as-youd-like/
Sooooooooo they have an open world game and act like they revolutionized the genre...
I still use gamefaqs. Sometimes it feels like a retirement home but honestly while it's quieted down in the last 10 or so years it's still fine. The Steam forums and reviews are one of the very few places you still can get somewhat proper information on games. What else is there ? Curated platforms are full of shills. Most articles are basically ads. Then you have various sites doing culture war all the time and either lauding or shitting on games based on perceived politics. Oh, and then you have YouTubers who are mostly looking for scandals to blow out of propoertion.
I don't want Steam to be heavily moderated. As long as it is not illegal, it should be allowed to stay. I am very much able to ignore some "has gay shit in it. woke trash" review myself. I don't want the same reviewer to instead write "bad characters, bad story" which i wouldn't dismiss as readily.
Illegal stuff should obviouls still be removed.
Apparently there was a period where WoW was replacing the word Naga (the indian half snake half people monsters) with asterisks. I'm not sure if people were using it in a cheeky way or not but either way, that's a classic fantasy monster, we have been fighting them for decades. You can't replace their being with the slurs kids exchange in order to feel transgressive.I remember the time I wrote a review at Steam and it replaced the word "niggles" with a row of asterisks.

Elder Scrolls 6 Is Powered By New Version Of Creation Engine
Todd Howard also says the upcoming RPG is a return to Bethesda's 'classic' RPG formulakotaku.com
But it's still Bethesda so the odds of it making a lick of difference are slim to none.
To Todd's credit, he seems like the guy who geniunely don't care on what people say about his games, and truly is proud of all his work. I would even call this an admirable trait that should be respected, had Bethesda games not been so stale with the engine, physics, gameplay loop, and the reliance on modders to fuel his games.
Todd... did you even play your own game?
The problem with Starfield is that it was too traditional, it played like an early 2000 game in in mid 2020, you shouldn't go back to traditional, you should be making a new tradition.

You have a good point here, I think the problem is that unfortunately gamers are too wise to the business side of making games now where nothing Bethesda makes ever seems to reflect that genuine mindset that Todd shares. Maybe Daggerfall, and Oblivion, but somewhere there Bethesda made a very decisive pivot from creating good games, and instead focused on making products. To Todd's credit, he seems like the guy who geniunely don't care on what people say about his games, and truly is proud of all his work. Like, unless this new engine is Creation Engine 2, and not 1.5.7 beta, there might be more pontentials for something fresh and new, but I just don't see what more can be achieved with the current engine.
