You can hack people in the game, and make their parts fuck up. Like someone with robot eyes, you can hack them and make them blind for a little while.

You can hack their arms too and force them to shoot themselves. You cna also hack their grenades and make them explode on their belt. It's kinda fucking brutal.
Can they hack you back? Defensive/Offensive ICE is a huge component of the Decking aspect of the game, so I'm curious if it goes both ways.
Yeah they can hack you back, but not in the same way. Instead they just lock you out of some of your combat abilities and you can't hack other's if you are hacked first.
How is the cyberspace content? I've yet to see anyone talking about that, but it's always been my favorite part of the Shadowrun/Cyberpunk franchise. And in every iteration, it's an entirely different bit of content, with it's own rules and everything. It IS in the game right? Because seriously like NOBODY seems to be even mentioning it at all in any conversation. Not sure if it's just nobody decided to play a Decker, or what.
I don't know what you mean by cyberspace content. If you mean some sort of internet aspect then there really isn't one.
Generally speaking, the games have a virtual reality "internet" where all people have virtual avatars, and physically move around in visual representations of data. "Hacking" is presented as activating attack programs, to break through defensive software, and...well, hmm, I'm trying to think of a pop culture example that you might know, seeing as you said scifi isn't your jam. Did you ever see Lawnmower man? The virtual reality there. Uh, I dunno, shit, um, basically any time you've maybe seen something imply people literally.....TRON!! Yes, TRON, have you seen TRON? That would be what the game equivalent of cyberspace would look like.

The hacking is done with your scanner which basically turns your vision into Terminator vision in which you highlight a dude and select a hacking option based on your available RAM. Each hack costs a certain amount of your RAM which slowly regens over time. Once you select a hack, the hack happens after a few seconds and you can go about your day once you select the hack option.
The hack will happen even if you leave your vision without waiting for it to finish. Hacks that are happening are little red meters over your target that fill, once filled the effect of the hack occurs.

The game is more about the world and the stories within more than the actual gameplay. So just depends on if you are down for that.
*shrugs* I'll probably get it eventually, but, I mean, this entire genre, one of the driving aspects of it that drew me in as a kid, and ignited my imagination, was the virtual cyberspace stuff. I mean, cybernetic dudes running around with guns, shooting each other or chopping each other? Yeah well, I've played that...like a LOT. So yeah, for me it was seeing how they would incorporate that into a game, and represent it visually. Alas, it's just a Deus Ex variant. Which, is fine I guess, I love Deus Ex, but I was hoping for more from CP2077

To be fair, I think the world and the story in this game is presented way better than Deus Ex. Cyberpunk is instantly more believable imo, because it's sci-fi elements are played off as totally normal everyday life which means it doesn't feel like you are in a special world where the tech is all shiny and new. This is a cybpernetic world that has been around for decades already so nobody is all that wow'ed by it.
Maybe i am explaining it wrong but it just has a different feel to it.
No I understand what you're saying, I'm just comparing it to DE in that it's still all centered on being HERE. I'm not, jacking in like in The Matrix, where my consciousness is transported to a digitally rendered world, while my body is sitting there, and the rest of my street team is covering me while I'm hacking the archive database to get the information we were paid to steal in the first place. It's all just, meatbag to meatbag I guess.
Hacking is apparently just a progress bar with a cooldown, not it's own literal world, with it's own rules and systems.
One could surmise the same thing has happened IRL too though. Can’t just say the hell with it there, even though the IRL dynamics are exponentially more complicated than a game.
Everyone has neural link in their brains. It's basically like your body has a computer inside of it, which has different sorts of firmware that can be installed to it, which interacts with your visual perception among other things, and also makes it possible to "hack people" in a sense.
Nah the eyeball implants are just enhancements to the base hud you always see (that thing that describes your health state and so on) I dunno if it differs in other paths but in the corpo path you start out with the arasaka firmware which already lets you have a partial hud, and when you get the eyeballs that hud gets better with letting you see things like recoil and bullet counts and so on, so the hud is actually just a thing neural link does.
The info about who the person is is exchanged kinda like a streetpass in your 3ds, your neural link communicates with theirs. Some people who have high status can, for example, have a block on the display of their criminal record that you need clearance to access, while lowlifes on wanted lists have it visible. I "believe" that this is something you purchase the use of, but most people can't afford it, much like health care.

Yes, that's exactly my point, THAT was the game I wanted to have access to, hence why I am now less inclined to want to play CP2077. Seeing as it lacks the very aspect of the franchise that I find most compelling.
I think what you're describing comes later. Based on some codex I read, this game's internet is a lawless hellhole of demons (viruses) that netrunners control. The normal people can only access corporate-approved intra-net with only a handful of sites. There is tales of the virtual net you speak of, and tales of what happened there in the past. I think later on in the game you may get to see such a thing but super early on you're just struggling to not die from day to day and it's not exactly easy to find a way to get into the actual internet because everything is controlled by the corporations. You first have to up your street cred enough to be accepted by the high up criminals that can actually get you on the internet, which takes a while.
Based on the codex, you need to freeze yourself or enter in some sort of freezing suit to be able to transport your consciousness to the internet, and there is footage of a bathub of ice in a trailer, so there definitely will be some sort of thing like that. Also, the gunplay tutorial takes place in virtual reality, and there's this other thing called braindance which is kinda like a virtual reality record of someone's life you can relive, sensory experience and all, that people use to make movies and porn with and so on, so there's various sorts of cyberspace style experiences.
