God remember when PS1 and N64 games were 20-30 quid and provided hours of lulz? Nowadays if I'm going to buy a game it needs to keep me entertained for a long time.
No, actually. I seem to recall plenty of N64 games going for 70-80 USD. :p
Expensive to make carts FTW

Wait isn't 1.5 Million copies pretty good? I'm confused...
Sure, but when you could have sold twice that?
I guess grossing approximately ninety million dollars just isn't enough anymore.

Dead Space wasn't a bad game, it was short though compared to most other games.

The real miracle is that there NOT blaiming piratcy (I think)
Uh-uh. Even though they're a game company, they're still adults, so the real miracle is that they aren't blaming video games :p
So what your saying is there not blaiming video games for the "lack of sales" on one of there own video games?

Explain how does that make sense, since everyone seems to know that most companys go to directly blaiming piracty on occasions like these.
If you don't understand sarcastic humour, frankly you don't deserve to live. >:p

"Even so, one has to imagine that it's frustrating knowing that you could have earned roughly twice as much money on a released game than you actually did, especially in this era of sky-high development costs."

Stop being so naive, FOO! (Mr. T pities the fool, btw.) I'm not going to defend piracy, renting or selling of games amongst people, BUT - the fact that there were twice as many actually playing the game, doesn't equal a loss of half the money. For a rough example, how many people would continue using Facebook/Myspace if it started costing something (abysmal amounts)? There would always be the competitor. Now you can think about it and draw your own conclusions.

I thought that the game was pretty boring based on the demo. I might have tried it if someone lent me their copy or if I could pick it up for £5 or something.

Twice as much if what? If there were no such thing as used games?

Schofield is saying that used sales accounted for many of the other 1.5 million players. But we should keep in mind that they aren't the only ones who refused to pay $60 for Dead Space.

Everyone who sold the game also refused to pay that much.

Even better, it's likely that a large number of people who bought the game used actually refused to buy the game at the used price, because they sold it back, too.

I would bet that what most people did with Dead Space amounts to a $20-30 two-week rental. This is what the market is telling Schofield his game is worth.

Used sales are the ultimate game review.

I actually just bought it yesterday... Pretty fun game... The new one coming to Wii looks awesome...

a prequel would be awesome.
I think the Wii one is a prequel actually...
is it?? /:
Yeah... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Space:_Extraction
And a rail shooter, but ehh... I like rail shooters...
i guess that's what was bound to happen when i moved from the only wii i've ever known. [moved out of the house, it was the little bro's] and now i'm totally behind on the games.

i've enjoyed a rail shooter a time or two before. :D
That kinda sucks... but then again, some Wii games get boring pretty quickly... like MadWorld... fun, but you can only throw a tire over someone, impale them with a street sign, and slam them into a spike all so many times before it gets old...

my xbox & ps3 keep me plenty occupied, so it's all good.
and that sounds pretty awesome, and not like it could get old.

but i will look past the awesome and have to agree, eventually it would get old. but how long would it take? if you had to guess? :p

Hmm... I rented it for a night with some "get free rentals with report card A's" thing I had, and after a few hours I got kinda bored with it... Same thing happened with Manhunt 2... that got boring once you got guns and it took all the fun out of it... If they had more to do besides just tires/barrels and impaling, it would be more fun...

You basically can. It goes new on the web for about a tenner, so used should be quite near a fiver.

Pretty much... they have the chainsaw arm, then you can pick up knife blades and a bat or something, then tires and barrels to put around people to immobilize them, signs to impale them with, the things like spike walls and trains to throw them against... Really not much to do... There are minigames that break it up, but they are just like throwing people in front of trains or trying to him them into a bullseye...
