I know in the US, if two people consent to sex, but are both underaged, technically, it's rape, and each family can be sued by the other. Is that how it works in the UK, or not?

That's not how it works in the U.S

Sue? Rape is illegal here (in Australia) and the UK. Sue nothing. Press charges. Criminal conviction. But there minors still, so a slap on the wrist the first time and some detention room with barbed wire for a couple of weeks each other time.

How about not pressing charges? It's not rape in any decent country/state.

The first one seems odd to me: kids usually have a thing against non-same-age couples.

Seen a documentary about a country in South-America, can't remember the name but they sad that Opus Dei was pretty much in controll. Anyway, they forced 10 year old children to give birth there, and contraception was pretty much banned (like an unwritten rule).
Difference ofcourse is that this happened in Brittain.

No one seems to have realized that the kid's grandparents are most likely fully capable of supporting one more child between them. I see no more difficulty in this situation than someone getting a little brother or sister at the age of 15, and that sort of thing happens quite a lot. Hey, I personally know a woman who has six kids between the ages of 28 and 3; the oldest one has a kid who's older than her uncle. And they're doing fine even with the frequent babysitting.

The society that has allowed the situation to occur may have its problems, but I don't think sexually mature yet uneducated people having sex is one worth being outraged over.

I'm in no way saying that we should just let children do this. It may be bad, but not so horrible that we all flip out about it, we just need to teach children sex ed better. I'm glad I come from an area with a very good sex ed. program.

Yeah, I'm all for frank and embarrassing sex ed. But the question inevitably rises, how are we going to fix that in this thread?

Both underage, never happen. Even if one of them was 16+ it's unlikely the courts would give out anything more than a token slap on the wrist. There's no way they'd send a teenager down for it.

I think most western countries have laws that limit the age difference between minors to 2-4 years.

But then, there's also a law that forbids men to have sex with virgins in one US state. (Funny aside.)
