The main thing is, if anyone actually managed to beat PW, Square would make a new boss about one hundred and seventeen times stronger

Anyone who plays until they puke or pass out is an idiot. I miss the days of impossible game difficulty being the rule instead of the exception, that way when I beat a game it always felt like an accomplishment.

Games need the unkillable. The unattainable. There have to be mysteries, questions unanswered to keep the game compelling.

Think of it like the depths of the oceans, the deep rainforests, the most forbidding mountain regions - Areas few go, where people vanish, where tales of monsters remain unchecked by technology-aided casual exploration.

I'd like to see more of this in the grindfest MMOs, even as I avoid them - Keep the players hoping, striving, wondering.

The problem with 'end-game' content is the implication the player has reached a wall and has nothing more to achieve than to complete his collections. Ridiculous gameplay, to start with - but speaking hypothetically, if I wanted to help the developers keep player interest... I'd recommend more ridiculously powerful foes and dangerous locations ^^

Players? You are retarded for playing so long.

Developers? You are retarded for making an unbeatable boss. Even Ragnarok Online with bosses having practically over 15 mln hit points (not counting event bosses, one having a LOT more, few times at least) isn't such a push-over. I mean, with two or three parties he can be beaten. Even if he uses so many high-level powerful skills.

How about "The Time Waster" and the next stage "The Ultimate Time Waster", then the next stage "The Ultimate Time Waster Supreme" with each stage adding a new decriptve word until you finally get the point.... you are wasting your time...

18 hours isn't too bad solid gaming... its just doing it on one fight... I think my brain would explode of boredom before dying of starvaion, lack of sleep, or bladder problems (I use a laptop anyway... so can move and multitask quite easily).

Playing a game until you puke is RETARDED!!!!!
Drinking until you puke is HARDCORE!!!!!
Stupid double standard isn't it? Kids will laugh at you when you game untill you puke, but you're cool and 'one of the guys' when you get drunk as hell and puke...*sigh*

They should have been suspicious when they heard this.

"Final Boss...MMO"
True that.

For some reason, it sounds really reminiscent of .//hack ..I'm not too sure why.

Dang..why don't they make a real .//hack MMO already.

Hehe, I'd say it already turned into that horrible story, eww...
Still, I can understand it, there's certain visual effect in WoW, strobing colours and the like, that just cause me to get so queasy. So much so that I'm often looking away from it in-game, of course, that causes problems in instances.

But 18 hours? That's either hardcore or just plain stupid.
what about yiazmat in ff12 i mean, sure its now easily beaten wtih glitch exploitation but before that it took like 8-10 hours its mainly becasue people want final fantasy superbosses to be a challenge, when they make them a challenge with maxed or near maxed stats all thats left is incredibly high hp, which even with max dmg will take hours to kill... if they tone down too much people will just want it harder too hard there will be complaints will it never end

I don't give a damn what achievement you might end up getting or what in-game achievement might be in store- I refuse to fight a boss any longer than a few hours. This is just absurd.

Dedicating myself 18 hours straight for ANYTHING is an endurance test. I get pissed at battles that last even ONE hour..

As I'm sure someone mentioned earlier, I just get visions like the South Park, "Make Love, Not Warcraft" episode when they went after the guy at the end..

Yeah, I remember that. I owned the guide at the time, and I remember I was looking for side-quest to complete, aka, grinding. As soon as I noticed his HP (I forget if it was ??? or a big number, I avoided that side-quest like the plague. I wanted to complete it. I mean, it was featured on the back of the guide, but...no. I just knew it would take ages and tons of tries. So no.

I've always wanted to play FFXI. And FFXIV. Except FFXIV is broken beyond repair right now. And I also don't think shelling out 15 bucks per month is the best way to spend my money.

I've played some casual MMOs before (zOMG, anyone?) where a boss takes around 30-45 mins. to defeat. I thought that was a lot and I was ready to give up and just ditch my team.
But 18 hours?! I probably would have stopped playing after the hour mark.

While we're at it, anyone knows of a good MMO where you don't necessarily have to form a party in order to move throughout the game? I know most MMOs want you to do this, because that's kind of the point, but...I was just wondering. I'm more of a loner but I still like MMOs.

Seriously? That's complete crap, it's just Square trying to make sure that people are getting their money's worth. Doctors being the people getting their money.
I'd hardly call puking your guts out and fainting getting your money's worth.
I would say that getting a challenging, but safe (in a physical sense) and enjoyable experience would be getting your money's worth. I fail to see how trying to make the final boss impossible for almost everyone to beat as "getting your money's worth" as that only serves to frustrate players into rage-quiting. That's never fun.

Here I think Square Enix is clearly violating one of the core rules that a DM should think long and hard before breaking it: DO. NOT. SET. OUT. WITH. THE GOAL OF. MURDERING. YOUR PLAYERS.
