There's a lot of anime hate here. I mean, to say that there are only two anime's worth watching, and then just name super mainstream stuff makes me believe you havn't seen much at all. I'm gonna name a more obscure list just so that I feel I stand out a bit.

Eden of the East
King of Bandit, Jing(there's an error in the title... but awesome none the less)
Romeo x Juliet
Solty Rei
Kurau: Phantom Memory
Baccano(yeah six, i'm a dick, whatever)

It indeed does say "anime" in the title, so if you like the manga and not the anime, do not post it under this thread.
Could someone explain the difference to someone who is getting too old and is overly westernised?

I don't think I've seen anything I've liked since the Fist of the North Star series. It had a drum and Bass sound track in the mid 1980s... Way ahead of its time.

The manga is the book version, the anime is the movie/show.

In no particular order

Ghost in the Shell

Pros:
-deep story
-emotionally involving episodes
-satisfying action scenes that don't insult your inteligence
-technology never breaks your suspension of belief
Cons:
-incredibly hard to understand plot
-most characters lack depth
-the movie Solid State Society

Fullmetal Alchemist

Pros:
-all the characters
-many, many satisfying plot twists
Cons:
-kiddy start
-final plot twist
-the god awful movie

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Pros:
-the use of the larger plot to explore the characters psychology...
-...especially in the series finale (fuck you if you didn't like it)
-the larger plot comes together to make just enough sense
Cons:
-its a giant robot show
-the entire first half of the show (glad I started the show half way through)
-the battles are quick and unsatisfying in most cases

Death Note

Pros:
-amazingly intellectualy satisfying, the characters can only win by out smarting each other (I was skeptical about the first episode but the second left me astounded)
Cons:
-the character Misa who I hate with a passion
-the series drags on too long, the second half lacks the same punch

Paprika

Pros:
-it is about discovering a new level of reality, indulging that hunger for mystery in all of us
-the final development with Chiba's character
-amazing music
-the Paprika/Chiba character dynamic (which is oddly enhanced by the fact that its never explained but just accepted by the characters)
Cons:
-ending felt like a bit of a dues ex machina

hmmm...
1: Black Cat (of course. if anyone can say why it's 'of course', post it for others)
2: Code Geass
3: Bleach
4: +Anima (the anime version.)
5: FullMetal Alchemist

if i could choose six, the sixth would be Princess Mononoke. Awesome movie.

Thank you kindly. Not being able to read Japanese, the show would be my preference.

You're very welcome, and just so you know, you can pick up translated manga at most book stores.

Think Monocle Man, think, what did you watch on Saturday mornings long ago?

Dragonball Z
Gundom Wing
Something with a samurai wearing a pink shirt, he had a cross on his cheek.
...
Pokemon! Yes, pokemon used to be enjoyable to me.
Oh, and Digimon!

Death Note, Elfen Lied, Tales of Symphonia OVA ( if only cause it nearly made me plug my wii in to play the game again...nearly anyways), I also watch bleach every week, but i cant say I enjoy that , what with the constant filler and stoof

1. Ninja Scroll
2. Graveyard of Fireflies
3. Wicked City
4. Spawn
5. ummmm.... Afro Samurai (I guess)

Princess Mononoke was pretty good. And of course Akira and Ghost in a Shell are classics. Cowboy Bebop I've also found entertaining.

edit: Not sure how I forgot Vampire Hunter D! Make that number 5.

1. RahXephon
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. Irresponsible Captain Tylor
4. Witch Hunter Robin
5. Cromartie High School

I'm proud of the fact that, aside from Bebop, everything on my list is a criminally underrated masterpiece, instead of something like Death Note or Evangelion.

[small]But list threads are bad, mkay?[/small]
