The problem is the servers. Anyone with half a brain knows that Macs run games just fine.
I know. But, I've contacted Steam and they still haven't said anything.

Simple solution:
Buy a computer.
Not a Mac, a PC.
Just so you know. I won't buy a PC because of three things. 1.Mac runs better. I've proven it with my cousin. 2.Windows is cheap and re-uses things. 3.Windows 7 is a prettier version of vista. Once again proven with my cousin. He knows how to look into the operating system they were the same.
Must. resist. arguing...

OT: Waiting's probably the only way to go. Lots of people are downloading TF2 and its updates right now because all the Mac users out there can now get it and the price was reduced, so people like me grasped the opportunity to get this great game. Probably within a couple of days the problem will solve itself.

I personally have no problem playing, but I may just be lucky. The first time I tried to start the game it told me that it was "unavailable", but when I tried again a few minutes later it worked without a problem.

Edit: I'm playing on a PC, so it might be a Mac specific problem. If it is that and not a problem with the servers, Valve will surely fix it soon.
I say it's cause Steam on Mac is still a beta. It's not fully perfected yet and there are going to be some problems.

It's the servers.

Note* Have you noticed the recent flow of new users bashing Mac? Tell you what. Once that whole server thing is fixed and I finally get my credit card so I can pay steam, we'll play a good match.

Here's a trailer to get you hyped.

It's been out of beta since it was released.

Will you stop yakking on about OS differences, seeing as this problem has nothing to do with what platform you're running Steam on, it's a server problem on their end.

You tried the suggestion I gave about changing the download location to a less busy server? Seeing as the error you're getting is "Server is too busy" I'd have thought that would have been the first place you started instead of blaming OSs and whatnot.

There it is. For all the Mac user hate around here, the assholes like you are what I see more often.

Has he tried pausing it and starting it up again? It was doing that to me when portal was free i had to constantly start it again and again
He did that, and he said that when he started it up it said download starting forever. He paused it when it was at 0% when he did so I don't know what's happening. I'll tell him to start an account so maybe he can explain it to us.
Did that to me for Half Life on Mac - I restarted the PC mid download, and it just sat at 70%. I picked "delete local content" on the menu after trying "resume updating" over and over. It didn't actually delete the local content (although this wouldn't be a problem if its at 0% anyway), and when I tried to redownload it worked fine.

I recommend buying a PC. It won't solve your problem, but it will make you feel better.
Best Response Ever...
I'd cry from laughter if he sent an email about the problem to Valve, and they told him the same thing.
You do realize valve developed steam for mac.

Having played a game of TF2 yesterday and encountering Mac users and being taunted for the fact that I'm not using a Mac, yeah, I reiterate my belief that Valve are making a vast mistake in wasting their time, resources and manpower in developing for the Mac crowd.

Because broadening their user base is a bad idea. Right.

Alternatively, lobotomize yourself and then sit in the longest queue you can find until it's empty.

You'll have wasted tons of time,be frustrated, lost some IQ points and got nothing done! It's like Windows but free!

Makes a change from mindless Windows/Linux Anti-Apple fanatics bashing products they never use made by a company who is supposedly evil for doing what EVERY company does if nothing else

I had the same problem, it is a server overload issue and given time it will go away. On a less related note, I really want those earbuds, how long do I have to get on my friends mac before I can no longer get them?

I'd rather they develop for the Linux users. Yes, there are MS hating Linux users but at least those Linux users have an idea about the hardware in their machines or how their OS operates. Most Mac users are fucking hispter morons that make the majority of 360 gamers appear intellectual.

Generalizing an entire group of people only serves to make you look bad.

Jeze, I don't like macs, but everyone is just spewing hate, save those few trying to help.
Also, it seems like quite a few people are having this problem, so my guess would be the servers.
Give it some time and it should correct itself.
