when ever i enter these flame wars (not this one im being civil today) i find its not so much the mac i dont like, apart from moving the ruddy window icons to the left of the screen. Its the mac users i know at school. there are normally 6 of us who argue about this 3 on both sides and it normally goes...

PC user 1 to PC user 2:- i was playing Portal last night and i didnt remember half of it...
MAC to pc user:- ha i can play Half-life on my mac now, so as it can play games its now better in every way
PC:- we still have more games though
mac:- yes but we have all the good ones and our Macs dont crash or get viruses
PC:- during the 3years of having my pc its crashed onces. anyway how much was your mac?
Mac:- -however-much-
PC:- mine has the exact same spec's and was almost half the price. look we both have a -computer-bit-nerd-talk-
Mac: NERDS!!!!

its just if you start to explain some thing is better in more depth than it looks pretty your argument is invalid as you are a nerd/geek.

(i know all the mac users aren't like this. but these are the one i talk to the most)

Simple solution:
Buy a computer.
Not a Mac, a PC.
Just so you know. I won't buy a PC because of three things. 1.Mac runs better. I've proven it with my cousin. 2.Windows is cheap and re-uses things. 3.Windows 7 is a prettier version of vista. Once again proven with my cousin. He knows how to look into the operating system they were the same.
Your cousin is an idiot or you're talking out of your proverbial or some combination of the 2. 1) I will grant you this, for system stability and ease of use, Macs are superior to Windows-based PC's for most people. 2) Of course Windows re-uses things, so does Apple, if a dev had to start from scratch each time a new OS was made, that would take decades to release (did you never wonder why, on your OS, there is a number 10.4/10.5/10.6?) 3) I'm not sure about "prettier", that's more an interior designers area of expertise so I'll take your word for it, but the functional differences between Vista and 7 are massive, system stability, GUI, resource management and a whole host of upgrades. If your cousin didn't spot any of those he should probably be supervised before he is allowed near a toaster.
Fixed your grammar and a few other things because it seemed that seemed like a good idea before I start to take some of your points down.
1. Mac does run better, but you agreed with that, so can't really do much there.
2. Yes, Apple re-uses things, but Microsoft have tendency to release the same OS and the like with nothing more than a few extra buttons and a makeover, kinda like cloning your girlfriend, but adding a breast enlargement in the process.
3. Macs do look a fair bit better, because Apple took the time to make sure that they got as many aspects as they could down to appeal to as large as possible a future fanbase.

Now, I'll address the other point that needs a fair explanation.
Now, I've seen a lot of this, even here, as this thread has shown, and I kinda get why.
Yeah, Microsoft is good, but Mac have actually listened to their customers, and constantly released patches and updates for their op systems.

If this sounds like trolling, then I apologise, and will admit that, even to me, it sounds a bit harsh.
The part in the spoiler section needed to be said though.

Generalizing an entire group of people only serves to make you look bad.

I've met a lot of Mac users in my past job as a PC repair engineer and in my current job in retail. Besides one, and I'm emphasising one, none of them had a clue what they were talking about and you could feel their egos and sense of arrogance like the heat of a sun. Till I meet at least enough Mac users that I require both hands to count, I will afford Mac users nothing but scorn.
Your loss, then.
I beg to differ. I don't get along with people who have egos that sport their own gravity wells.

Agreed, not to mention that sentence of his about Mac/360 gamers made as much sense as a chocolate teapot.

Please, child, grow up and use whatever OS you prefer and leave everyone else to it; it's really childish to rag on someone because they - god forbid - differ in their choice of computer or console.

I mean, really, it's like calling someone a 'tramp' because they choose to buy a travel pass and ride the train to work instead of learning to drive and buying a car.

As for the original post: I'd say it's just an error on their end that needs sorting out. Maybe a case of just waiting until they do it? My Steam runs just fine (though admittedly I don't have TF2 yet, but I'll let you know if I have any problems when I get it).

Wow, I don't know wether to start with your egotism or your fallacies there... The biggest fallacy is obviously changing the words in someone else's quote, quotes by definition are verbatim, and secondly, I didn't say Macs were better or worse just more stable and easier to use, you lose a lot of the system customisability that you can take advantage of on a Windows system, so in my opinion it's a question of personal choice. The deeper system changes you seem to think occur on evey new release of a Mac OS aren't really all that prevalent, it's just that Mac give it a whole new name when they release the Windows equivalent of a service pack. Finally I didn't argue about aesthetics but if they're that big a concern to you possibly Spartan Warrior is more apt than you realise.
P.S. condescending is fun but you should probably check if the person you are tying to humiliate is smarter than you or you might end up being embarassed.

Note* Have you noticed the recent flow of new users bashing Mac? Tell you what. Once that whole server thing is fixed and I finally get my credit card so I can pay steam, we'll play a good match.

Here's a trailer to get you hyped.

I'm glad they put the Engineer on the PC team, because that's what I play and I prefer PC's.

And no, I'm not "contributing to a flamewar" you trigger finger reporting junkies, I'm simply saying I prefer the PC, I'm allowed to have an opinion as long as I don't do any bashing, or provide any controversy based flame-bait.which I'm not.

We're smart enough to know the difference between someone having an opinion ("I prefer PC's") and someone blatantly trolling ("Most Mac users are fucking hispter morons that make the majority of 360 gamers appear intellectual.")

I have Vista, and yes Windows 7 DOES seem to be Vista but a bit updated.
Are you agreeing with me? I can't tell.

I'm a Mac user without an ego. You can try me too. Go ahead. You probably think you're me. And you probably are. But, when you go and generalize one group of people, that's fucked up. Have you ever stopped to think "It might just be the area I live in." Apparently not. There was this amazing lesson learned in kindergarten and first grade. It goes a little something like this: think before you speak.

How do MAC users right click?
not a joke seriously, some special mouse?
It's just pressure sensitive. You only use you're middle finger(perspective of a right handed person) it will right click, only use your index and it will left click. It takes a bit to get used to, but once you have it it's no problem.

You say it like I'm not here. I've used both enough to know that it's not really that worth the money to upgrade to Windows 7. That's just my opinion though.

Wow. You really must hate mac users then. I know plenty of mac users, none of them like this. But, i disagree with he whole specs thing. My cousin(not the one who started this thread) is dying to get a Macbook because he used one once and he loved it. His said it was better than Vista, but this is his opinion.

I say it's cause Steam on Mac is still a beta. It's not fully perfected yet and there are going to be some problems.
It's been out of beta since it was released.

Will you stop yakking on about OS differences, seeing as this problem has nothing to do with what platform you're running Steam on, it's a server problem on their end.

You tried the suggestion I gave about changing the download location to a less busy server? Seeing as the error you're getting is "Server is too busy" I'd have thought that would have been the first place you started instead of blaming OSs and whatnot.
I'm not fully blaming these things. I'm just giving suggestions to what the problem might be to see if anyone knows. And I don't believe it's not a beta until all the kinks are worked out. And according to this thread, that requirement of mine has not been met.

You can run Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard on a pc.

Windows 7 Home premium 64bit takes up less system resources and is just as stable.

Intel Q6600 Kentsfield $100
8G ddr2 800 $100
Ati 5770 hd radeon $150
P35 chipset mobo $85
1TB sata storage drive $75
680w psu $55

There isn't a mac that is faster then this pc.
Sub total $565. Grand total $615.(what I originally paid +shipping)
The most expensive mac can hold a candle to this pc.
Also, How will mac users play TF2 with only one mouse button?

Why are people debating? Does it really matter if you play games on Mac or PC? In my generalized view, I don't see the big difference. TF2 is probably fun on both. I have a PC at home but the computers I use at school are Macs. I don't see the difference. All I wish is to be able to play portal at school :(

Well, I was faced with this problem, and with a lots of planning and ideas I solved the problem of a one button track pad. Buying a mouse. Ingenious isn't it.
