We don't even have guns in D&D, at least not within the official 4e ruleset. Now, if she'd used a crossbow or ballista then maybe it could be tied to D&D. Unless she played D20 Modern?

Have they checked her CD collection? Chances are they'll find some heavy metal in it. She probably played Doom, too. :/

Some people just can't accept that there are human beings who are just plain crazy, sometimes even murderously-crazy. Instead, there needs to be an explanation folks can wrap their own heads around be it games, music, religion, or anything else that can easily be stamped "SCAPEGOAT".

I've played D&D for nearly 30 years; haven't killed anyone, haven't even come close nor do I ever intend to. I'm sane. That woman wasn't. Period.

Killers play D&D =/= D&D makes you kill
I also heard that some killers eat ice cream, we'd better get around to banning that.
Oh, and did you know that some killers use the internet? We absolutely must ban that as well.
In fact, I even heard some killers have visited church and/or another place holy to their religion! We really need to ban them!

Wow they must have be good killing 3 members of staff requires rolling an 18+ on a D20.

Also Dungeons and Dragons involves bows, swords and magic; not shooting people.
Unless you're playing modern D&D, which in that case, you do shoot people.

Let's play the blame game!

It's the game where you don't have to worry about what people do, just say something made them do it, lock them up and pretend like civilization is civil.

As a veteran D&D player and occasional batshit nuts psycopath (thankfuly non gun owner being british) I'll let you all into a secret. I can tell you all why this little problem occurs with d&d players going nuts and hurting/killing people.

you see... its all about the d4's... them little bloody caltrops that hurt like buggery when you stand on them. They bring out a special kind of rage only a true nerd knows - nerd rage if you will (+4 str, must scream incoherently). The sudden pain drives you into a killing maiming whirlying nerdy frenzy hopping arround flailing madly. If you happen to be carrying a gun at the time your bound to end up shooting some one.

Where is the connection between murder and a game? It's like saying Jack the Ripper played Monopoly as a child, so it's Monopoly's fault he killed people.

While I could rattle on for a bit on the usual points about the rush to find easy scapegoats for violence in the face of tragedy and uncertainty and the tendency of some in the media to try to oversimplify things to an increasingly apathetic public that can't be bothered to come to sound conclusions on their own, I think in this case I'm going for a more gut-based response:

Playing D&D has never, ever caused me to act out real-world violence.

Asinine, bandwagon-jumping pseudo-news "reporting" from idiots without any sense of the consequences of their mob-baiting theatrics is becoming a strong candidate for doing so.

Oh for Christ's sake...
I don't even see why we gamers bother anymore.
People are going to hate us no matter what.

Jesus this is stupid, fucking people try to blame something on anything besides the real cause, the fucking person who committed the murder.

I thought for once that video games or games in general would not be involved with this incident. I really, really, really hoped this time would be different. But we just can't catch a break. I'm now waiting for mega-idiot Jack Thompson to claim that he knew it all along and for his equally idiotic Aussie Michael Atkinson counter-part to attack board game players Down Under. Aye.

They'll probably blame that on D&D as well seeing as how D&D has been around since the early 80s and the crime took place in 1986, nevermind that she probably didn't play it at that time.

Also there was that time she beat the crap out of someone at an IHOP in Peabody, MA (2002) while screaming "I AM DR. AMY BISHOP". If D&D had been a factor in that, I think she probably would've been saying "I AM ILLUSTRIA, ELVEN WARLOCK. I ROLL TO PUNCH YOUR DAMN LIGHTS OUT"

I really fucking hate this era of "no accountability".

Unless she was a fanatic user of the Book of Vile Evil and played all her campaigns as Chaotic Evil I fail to see how her playing D&D is even slightly relevant. And even that is far fetched. I personally prefer True Evil or Lawful Evil for my campaigns. I'm sure there are rapists, pedofiles and violent offenders that play WoW, bank robbers that have played CS and KotOR and terrorists that play Half Life.

You know, why can't like the CEO of a major corporation come out and say that they play DnD. Or like political rights activist. It's ALWAYS killers and criminals. The normal folks need to step up and represent.

I'm making a new thread.

Vin Diesel played D&D and he turned out fairly all right, don't know about any other big-name figures off the top of my head though.

I've noticed that a lot of killers seem to drink soda... is it corrupting our minds? We need to ban Coke and Pepsi! Won't someone think of the children?

Wait, if D and D fueled this, wouldn't she have used a longsword or greataxe or something? She used a gun, clearly it was Shadowrun that caused this.
