I was under the impression that this thread would be about quadriplegics or paralysis victims whose only means of movement would be verbally communicating with a person pushing their wheelchair or blowing into a sensor.

At any rate I'm surprised your fellow players didn't kick the twit outright. In most games I've played that's a fairly common reaction to a player that only serves to tk or drown the team chat with abuse or pointless sh*t. I'm willing to bet that the other players were his friends or something, from your description of him he doesn't sound like the type who has the balls to call others out in front of strangers.

League of Legends is the biggest offender I've experienced, but I hear HoN is even worse.
~I wouldn't be sure about that. On LoL I've been going 9/17/4 and a guy on the other team who had no kills and very few assists was calling me a noob and telling me to "L2P". LoL Is a festering pile of shit, which is why I completely stopped playing the PvP on it, and have almost completely stopped playing it altogether.

Yeah, but every player gets this on every online multiplayer game. I don't deal well with it, so I just write off ALL online multiplayers (games and players alike) as not worth my time. I play local multiplayer only to totally control who I play with and limit that group to my friends (people who I could just as easily hang out with in real life by driving to thier house, as I know them and not just facebook "friend" them.) It's much easier for me to write the whole mmo crowd off as "asshats who I hate." It's not true and lots of people are great and most likely fun to play with... but it's far easier to just cast the blanket hate and stay away. After enough time with the hate lemmings... I'd just turn into one myself. And I like me, I'd just as soon stay away from hating myself as much as they do.

After abusing you did the guy say that he was going back to LoL or other MOBA games?

Yeah it sucks when you get people like that, they can really ruin the game for everyone. I'd also agree with those talking about COD, when I played that I didn't find that much abuse, mostly there was nobody talking, at least in the recent ones. COD4 was another matter entirely.

Just remember OP that at least your not one of those guy's. Just sigh at their stupidity and move on, there isn't anything to be done other than avoid them as much as possible. You know? Like the plague.

from what I experinced LoL simply has more trolls
and Hon is a bit more elitist

There moba's a natural ses-pool for people to blame things on others
super MNC may be somewhat of an exception to this but like every game it has it's retards

I wouldn't let people like that ruin your fun. If you see someone like that, just ignore them or quit the server straight away and play with other people. When you're badass enough to show that person how to truly rock, find them again and run circles around them leading the team while they choke on a Smoker.

I hear that a lot, but I've never once been insulted on CoD. In fact, once in a blue moon do I even see someone (hear someone?) using a microphone. Am I just super-lucky?
You're really not. It's actually a fairly typical experience. I've never really had anyone seriously talk shit, and the very few instances I did a mute or a humorous jab back at them fixes it pretty quickly. That or an ass kicking next round.

But the stereotype says that every CoD player is a raging 12 year old homophobic racist twat, so that must be the truth.

I'll give the CoD community one thing. They can acknowledge the worst parts of their fanbase and laugh at it:

People play with mute-all off in COD? What's wrong with you people? It's not like you actually need to speak with anyone.

I wouldn't have put up with that for so long. If I didn't leave right away I would have made his game as bad as he was making mine. Just kill him over and over. Would be quite funny to watch him rage. Or maybe he would leave and make it better for everyone.

And this is why I don't play online any more!
I am in the Military and I hardly ever have the internet, so I mostly play RPGs if and when I get to game, but I do enjoy online shooters... problem is I am not as good as the motherf***ing goddamn, jobless, tax absorbing, lazy c**ts who all they do in life is play CoD and BF3, so of course they are better than me... And I have the privaligde of not only paying my taxes to fund their gaming, but I get the abuse for it too!

I tell you what though, I'd bet every last penny I own that they wouldn't dare say what they say to me to my face...

Luckily however I am a calm person, and I am always the better man to back down first and play something else!

A couple of months ago a guy did a similar thing to me on Mass Effect 3.

I was playing as an Asari Vanguard for the first time, so I was a little rusty (although now it's one of my best classes), and, yes, I was dying a little bit, but bare in mind I only had like...2 skills. It wasn't as if I was crippling the team. And I wasn't dying THAT much.
Anyway I got a voice message from this other player, but due to it being a multiplayer match I thought I wouldn't check it then. Suddenly I hear him going
"JW. JW. Hey. JW. Hey. JW. Check your voice messages man" - he had any extremely annoying voice. This is no disrespect to Americans, as a lot of us British have annoying voices too, but it was a really whiney American accent. I don't know where from. But it was not a good voice to have.

So anyway, I didn't have a mic so I couldn't inform him that checking my messages would involved me essentially going AFK for a bit. Then I heard him say to his buddy (they were in a clan, doncha know):
"I left him a message....I left him a message that said *chuckles* 'Hey, is the reason you die so much *chuckles* because you don't have a life?'"
I think I found it just as funny as he did - albeit in a different sense. So I quit the game and listened to it, and yeah, "Is the reason you die so much because you don't have a life?". So I messaged him back this elegantly constructed critique of his gameplay and told him that he had an annoying voice, which was what offended me the most. He sent a message back telling me that obviously I had an annoying voice, or else I'd be on mic...obviously.

ANYWAY!
I've digressed. The point is that he wasn't particularly good himself. But the majority of the time these guys that insult other players are dumb arses with nothing better to do. Even if you are genuinely doing something wrong, accidentally, there is no need for "Oh muh gawd yur such a fag!" It's pathetic, it really is. I'd rather risk lightly, accidentally patronising someone and offering them advice then send them a poorly constructed insult made up of very little wit.

People, eh?

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often to me when I play League of Legends - despite hearing that MOBA is a cesspool for the worst humanity has to offer and that LoL has more of 'the dreaded casuals' than most, I haven't bumped into any yet.

Then again, I tend to throw F-bombs around more than most myself, so who am I to judge?

This is why I hate online games. I only occasionally play Dota 2 and I hate that community so much. I play on the Asian servers in hopes that I'll be playing with people who don't speak English. I never want to join a COD or any other shooty game online (although COD2 seems to be fine).

yeah, HoN is much worse. I started playing LoL after 2 years with HoN and I found the LoL community pleasant compared to the HoN community.

Anyways, we have all been there. You should have tried to have him vote kicked. No one likes an asshole.

I hate insulting people on the internet, just feel bad about it. Unless they smack first and show they're clearly a little bit stupid. So in a situation similar to yours I'd just say they're completely right and constantly compliment them, maybe throw in a few things to help them improve their own play too if they complain about imbalance in something. Annoys them to no end, or worst case scenario, they feel sorry for you and stop.

But, how do you insult the friends you're playing with if you mute them? Does... not... compute.

The Call of Duty rule, anything + noob = insult.

OT: I shout down my brother and our mates when I'm playing. Don't understand why you'd do it to people you don't know, that's not fun. The shouters/typers are the worst when they're actually being malicious. I'd never played TF2 before, tried once, never again. Apparently if I don't know how to play then I should go get AIDS. What a pleasant fellow.

Typically though I stick to Friends Only on voice comms and ignore any text rants... not worth getting stressed over. With a lot of these kids its typically because they've seen you do one thing wrong then it snowballs in their own head into this big deal.

Happens occasionally but the ones taking the time to harass everyone are rarely really good players due to the fact they spend too much time thinking up silly insults and the best combination of swear words to express their rage.

Met a few nice people on xbox live though, cooperative team games seem slightly better for that.
