I don't really do undercover work anymore at 30 I'm too old for the types of gangs we have around here. (Weird fact, Biker gangs tend to have much older members than traditional 'street gangs') That would be a good reason though. Truth is, I just don't like it.Jamash said:Is that because you do undercover police work, or just because you don't like it?ace_of_something said:I don't have a facebook. Even if I did I don't think I'd annoy my friends and family like that.
Are there actually rules against cops having Facebook profiles, or is it just common sense that cops in certain roles will be discreet?
I remember there was a collective facepalm among the security services in the UK, when the wife of the head of MI5 started posting status updates about his new job on her Facebook profile.
Until about a year ago [a href=http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/88425737.html]When this[/a] [a href=http://www.fox8.com/news/wjw-news-ohio-youth-prison-guard-facebook-slurs,0,1207783.story]sort of thing[/a] [a href=http://www.policeone.com/police-technology/articles/1776582-Two-Wash-officers-fired-over-Facebook-indiscretions/] started happening[/a] no one really gave a crap. Now most departments I know of have a general 'if you wouldn't say it in public don't say it online' type rule it usually falls under a 'representing the department' general rule.
Some, not ours, do have official written policies specifically for facebook, myspace and so on.
