Overall, it's not as good as Reign of Chaos, but it's way better than WoW, warcraft 1, it's even better than Warcraft 2. You shoudl pick it up.

And if you haven't figured it out, I played every warcraft game out there, including the Frozen Throne and WoW. And warcraft 2 was better than warcraft 3 because hero-centric RTS come and go, but nostalgia lasts forever.

I am gonna get a lot of hate for this but Portal < Portal 2

The first Portal had a great idea, but honestly, nothing motivated me to continue it. There wasn't enough outside of the whole "LOOK YOU GO IN ONE HOLE AND COME OUT THE OTHER" to really grab me. I got a sequel as a b-day gift and was blown away by how it connected back to the first and how much more immersive it was. I was excited and happy when I finished the sequel as opposed to when I finished the first (which took me well over a year because I'd play for like 30 minutes, get bored and put it down again for several months)

Assassin's Creed. I don't care what anyone says, once you got past the novelty of the setting, the joy of freerunning and after completeing the same mini objectives 500 times... the game was a total bore.

Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood were absolute masterpieces.

Also Resident Evil, how anyone could possibly consider that game a classic I'll never know! RE2 and RE3 were far better.

Assassin's Creed is basically the poster child for this. I outright tell everyone I've ever talked to about the series that AC was a terrible game with a lot of good ideas that never came together into anything worth playing. AC2 utterly blew me away though with how much of an improvement it was. That was the game AC should have been.

Don't forget that it looked and works better on PCs than AC. AC looked good, but was probably the first game in a long time that I couldn't run at full.

Few years later, AC2 came out with superior, awesome and incredibly incredible graphics, but not much higher requirements.

Also - Persona 3 < Persona 4. Okay, Persona 3 wasn't bad. It was fucking AWESOME.

Then you played Persona 4, and realize how badly some things were done in P3.

To get all sidequest relationships in P3, you had to play the game once, then replay it with a hand-made calendar with every day planned and so on to make sure you have enough time for it. In P4, I finished all relationships in one play-through without problems.

And combat, God, so much better and more enjoyable in P4. Maybe being able to control your teammates made the game easier, but before it was just Difficult by Poor Design.

Half Life 2 was a bajillion times more fun than the original
Team Fortress 2 was a quadranazillion times more fun than Team Fortress Classic
Left 4 Dead 2 was... well, a lot better than Left 4 Dead

Valve is pretty damn good at making sequels (except for maybe Portal 2, which is almost a different game than the original, which is why I can't compare them, even though I REALLY loved both of them). I hope this will be the same for DoTa 2 and maybe CS: Global Offensive.

The thread was supposed to be about good or great sequels to bad or below average games. Half-Life was neither bad nor below average so there was no need to mention HL2. Although it seems the thread has simply become one about sequels that surpassed their predecessor.

Going from Two Worlds one, to Two Worlds 2. The sequel is sooo much better than the original, but I guess when you're at rock bottom there is nowhere to go but up really.
To me the sequel isn't the greatest, since there are still some problems like lagging controls and too many abilities tied to each button. But it's an alright game.

I really enjoyed Two Worlds until I was about to beat it and realized how linear it was. That was the upside of the terrible first one, at least it was open world.

Unlike movies, it really seems to me like videogame sequels are usually better than the original. I'm sure there's plenty of examples of sequels being worse but right now I can't think of one.

Well, I really played Warcraft 3 first, and only after that I played 2 and 1. Maybe I should've played them first, but whatever.

Night Elves getting into Alliance is WoW lore, which is fucked up beyond belief where Furion goes massive genocide on his own people because DURPTY DOO.I don't really count it.

As for Illidan, I didn't found him that whiny, and when you've spent thousands of years with a warden you completly hates and and is absolutly insane while your brother bonks your highschool love, and when your freed your brother calls you EVIL and then spouting nonsens about you allying with the enemy and "dooming us all" plus everyone hates you and wants to kill you, I say you got a reason for being pretty bitter.

As for the runthrough, I apreciate the apreciation (boy, that was a weird sentence).

See that's where you got it all wrong - you're supposed to start from the begining and then hate on all the new stuff for ruining everything you ever loved and cared for. Then you can reminisce how everything used to be better despite everything being worse. Then your choice to disregard new lore and consider it stupid is consistent with everything you've been saying all along.
Illidan may have had a rough time, but I had to listen to him which is far worse, and all that on hard difficulty no less. I could consider giving the guy a second chance, but he couldn't even beat a dead guy wielding a sword with eating disorders. I mean what is he? Blind or something? Gee...

And if we're talking about Resident Evil pre-remakes/director's cut then I completely agree with you. RE2 and RE3 are vastly superior for having auto-aim alone. That's without even mentioning what an awesome job RE2 did of telling two concurrent story lines, or RE3's addition of different paths to take and Nemesis actually hunting you from one area to another whenever he showed up.

I loved the way RE2 handled the story and the way certain actions changed details in the other storyline. That must have been quite revolutionary for its time. Then again, without the inclusion of the Master of unlocking and the Jill sandwich... this had to be better!

I think RE3 is about the only Resi game to actually make me feel the fear and tension one should feel when playing a survival horror game. Knowing Nemesis could pop up at any time was terrifying and it was refreshing to be able to simply run or choose to fight. Fantastic game.

Whaa? Seriously? Homecoming is at the absolute bottom of the pile for me. But then again, 0rigins didn't even need to be made, Silent Hill itself was the origin story and did a much better job of it.

Brotherhood is damn good as well with a lot of challenges and new concepts to make it seem less like a glorified expansion pack. It has its problems but it was what I wanted, more of the same thing. Really good multiplayer as well.

Brotherhood was not at all what I expected. I thought you would have to collect team members ala Mass Effect and each one would have their own personality/backstory and you'd have to pursuade them to join your cause. THEN you could use them on missions and what not. Instead we get a bunch of throw away nobodies who were easier to round up than a bunch of paralized sheep.

Considering I was dissapointed by the lack of depth to this mechanic, and felt the actual "brotherhood" part was simply tacked on as an afterthought, I still had a fantastic time with this game. I guess Ubisoft are getting good at these games now.
