Can't say I'd really want any of the bands I love to be famous. It would mean they have to cater to the masses and that the masses would inevitably catapult them into the spotlight and TMZ or some shit would run stories on all the details of their private lives. And the record companies would start dictating what their style would be and giving them a songwriter.

Joke a little more, In Flames, CoB and QotSA are all huge.

Dope are from what I know, not that big, they've had two hits, but only one sounds even slightly like what they usually do.

The ones I've highlighted are huge.
Where I live, nobody knows who they are.
I know children of bodom is huge in European countries, if you live in the states or canada that's probably why they are unknown.
Nope, I live in the motherload of melodeath, Sweden. The problem is the people I associate with.

Hmm... Really, nearly everything I listen to. The Flatliners, A Wilhelm Scream, Streetlight Manifesto... They're all BRILLIANT but have only got a very small audience.

Porcupine Tree deserves more attention. Nobody I know has heard of them and it saddens me.
I have! And I agree, they do deserve more attention. Great group, some truly sensational musicians.

One band that definitely could do with more exposure is Clutch [http://www.myspace.com/clutchband]. They've been around a good while, since the early 90's, producing awesome and intelligent rock music - thought-provoking lyrics about history and mythology and folklore, with an incredibly varied sound ranging from blues to metal to hardcore. Their new album, Strange Cousins from the West, drops on July 14th.

Personally, I don't get the whole Kurt = Lennon = Jesus thing, one bit.

Kurt saved us from hair metal. Hence, Kurt=Jesus.

OT i think Opeth should be more recognized. They are musical geniuses.

my personal opinion is asian kung fu generation.

they're pretty big in japan, but they should get american & euro love, because they're very talented. <3
I quite like em, but I don't know if its just me but I always seem to catch a whiff of other songs in anything I hear by them. Still fun though.

I think The Answer, Black Stone Cherry, Stone Gods, and a whole bunch of others should be hitting the mainstream charts. BSC are close, the other two not so much.

The New Pornographers, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, The Hold Steady

Although those are three of the most popular indie bands around, they're all relatively unknown.
