I'm going to buy BF3 for Xbox because my PC can't run it.

OT I really want BF3 to be a success and outsell COD(not gonna happen I know) but it's gonna be pretty fuckin' hard when Ea pulls these dickmoves. Of course they want to promote Origin and shit but when DICE actually makes a game that is basically developed for PC, Ea just makes really annoying decisions. Well we shall see.

"When a download service forbids publishers from contacting players with patches, new levels, items and other services - it disrupts our ability to provide the ongoing support players expect from us. At present, this is the case with only one download service,"
It sounds like EA wants to spam you with ads and crap and Valve thought that was a terribly annoying idea. Or maybe I'm just misreading things here...?

Well that makes things pretty simple then, doesn't it? I won't buy the game. I will not be forced to use a system I don't want to use. EA is going to shoot themselves in the foot with this one. No mod tools, exclusive pre-order bonuses, and no Steam? Good luck with overthrowing CoD you fuckin' morons.
Because it's so hard to get your ass to a brick and mortar store?
Its a 40 minute drive for some of us.

OT: Last I checked the latest Dragon Age DLC isn't available on steam either. Between that, Star Wars, Crysis and Battlefield its looking like EA is trying to get a array of exclusives to get people to install origin on their machines.
If you're a 40 minute drive from any kind of store that carries such games, you usually aren't going to have top notch internet to download games that are 10 gigs or bigger. Or you're paying an arm and a leg for the service.

I'm really tired of that excuse, because 9 times out of 10, the person is making it up, and they have a Super Target or Walmart 10 feet from their home.

That's the only reasonable explanation really, given that Steam very much allows DLC packs that include new levels and items for its games.

I was talking to my mates about the possibility of this happening as soon as I heard about the deal with Crysis 2.

I really hope EA doesn't start snubbing steam, I know they're trying to promote their own DDC, but I don't want to have to sign up to another bloody site.

And as much of a power house as steam is, if EA decide to pull all of their future releases from it, I think steam may be in a spot of trouble. EA is releasing some of the biggest titles.
Exactly this is why i prefer to using STeam for my games since i can add them to it's library or just buy them and play them straight off steam, i don't want to have to download Origin just to pay and play it on their software when i can easily just use it from Steam since a lot of people use it more than Origin could possibly ever attain.

battlefield on steam? how long would it take to download anyway? after all even battlefield 2 takes a fuck ton of effort just to RUN and optimal performance. not to mention about 5 gigs worth of memory. besides, i'll just buy the disc anyway.
Looks like you'll need Origin, regardless of disc or download version.
Origin, whats that, im not up to date on PC gameing lingo.

EA, as always, is run by idiots. One of the reasons Steam is so popular is because people generally trust and respect Valve. People DESPISE EA. Inconveniencing your customers by forcing them to juggle multiple download clients is not going to repair that relationship. All that will happen is they'll lose a tremendous amount of sales and the service will flounder, then they'll blame it on piracy and use that as an excuse to further marginalize the PC gaming market.

Say what you want about Activision, but at least the greedy businessmen that run it aren't stupid.

I really don't want to sit staring at a download screen for 2 days anyway, to Gamestop where I can buy the disc and install it in 10 seconds flat. Of course.. to play this game I'd need a new graphics card and tons of RAM... Whatever I'll just buy it for consoles and get a PC copy when cheap computers can run this game.

Don't know what to tell you. I have cable internet and am 20 minutes one way from the nearest Best Buy. There is a Walmart, but its PC games section is beyond terrible. Not everybody lives in a city.

Origin is EA's own download service that will try to compete with Steam. Hence why they're pulling it from Steam and making it almost exclusive to Origin.

Meh, their funeral if they want to take on Steam.

Battlefield 3 is supposed to be the less stupid and evil counterpart to Call of Duty, and if they want to cut out the people who are PC gamers who care about this kind of thing, then there's basically no way of buying a war shooter without it being something that is ruining the industry.

I don't buy digital anyway so I don't really care but if I did, I can't imagine being upset about having to go to Origin instead of Steam. Because let's face it, when I "go to" either one, my ass never leaves my chair. So what's the big deal? (And please don't tell me it's all about not installing unwanted, resource-sucking software on your PC. You installed Steam, right?)

Yes, because the way to go about beating Call of Duty is to alienate all the people that use Steam. I'm making an educated guess here, but that seems like a big percentage of PC gamers they're ignoring.

Hell, I don't even really do PC gaming so I don't even want to guess how angry folks are going to be if this is true. Best hope it was an oversight.

I had a couple of games on EA's old service (which sucked BTW). I am not even sure how to get them back at this point.

If this becomes a trend, I will just have to go back to physical copies from EA. I am not a huge Steam fanboy, but I have so many games on that service I don't want to start using 2 or more services for all my games. Steam wins by default for me. If no Steam, I would rather just have a physical copy than give money in order to support another digital distribution system. I uninstall and re install my games all the time, and I will reinstall operating systems every few years on my computers (since I have 3 computers it's a yearly process). Last thing I want is to spend even more time trying to figure out which download service I bought it from or which services I need to reinstall, especially if this sort of trend continues where each publisher has their own service.

Con: Some shit about having to pay up extra to download a purchased game six months after making said purchase.
Is that for real? That seems absurd. The thought of digital download is that you can (metaphorical speaking) throw the disks away. If I want to install stuff a year or two later, it should be free, like my retail purchase would be to re-install.

OT: I don't see why not having it on both. Can't they just add something extra if you would buy it via Origin? Like... a hat! No wait... that's a stupid idea, would look ridiculous.

Maybe some more silly item that would not affect in-game performance at all. Like maybe a free character skin for the characters, while Steam users would have to pay 1,99 euro for it.

I don't know, considering the ABSURD sales they have, the fact that you can play your games from any computer with little hassle (esp if you backup your game files to an external HDD), free saves in the Cloud (when supported), free multi-player (I'm looking at you, Xbox Live), built in voice and text chat, etc., etc., why you wouldn't want it installed. What's more, I don't have any problems with Steam consuming too many resources on my rig. Does it glitch out sometimes? Yes, of course. What software doesn't?

It's still on D2D, GamersGate, and others so it's not "almost exclusive." They're giving Valve the middle finger specifically.
