Damn, I'm used to playing all of my games (except some older ones) with Steam. Oh well, then I'll buy it retail, let's see whether I still remember how to use a CD.

It is there prerogative to insist that I don't give them money. I was going to buy BF3, but I like having all my games together in one nice, easy to use package more. If this is true, they just lost a sale. A lot of sales Ill bet.

As much as I love Steam, a monopoly has never been good for the consumer.
Steam is hardly a monopoly. Digital distribution is just that, a method of distribution. Steam competes with everyone who sells PC and Mac games.

I don't buy digital anyway so I don't really care but if I did, I can't imagine being upset about having to go to Origin instead of Steam. Because let's face it, when I "go to" either one, my ass never leaves my chair. So what's the big deal? (And please don't tell me it's all about not installing unwanted, resource-sucking software on your PC. You installed Steam, right?)
That's true... but the last thing we want is another one on top of Steam. Where does it end? If every publisher starts up their own DD model, and they all stock only there own products, just now you'll end up with more software required to run any given game than there is game! It's bad enough that a bunch of games require GfWL in addition to your DD source programmes, but this is just downright silly.

I sure won't be getting CoD in any form, but if BF3 is only available from Origins, I'll drag my lazy ass down to the store or not buy it at all. And if an Origins account is required to PLAY, then I certainly won't be getting BF3. Tired of having more game accounts at more publishers than I have email accounts, forum accounts, bank accounts etc. combined!

Interesting. Think they're trying to kill steam? I don't know.

On the topic of Origin exclusives though, I am fairly certain that The Old Republic is exclusive to Origin because of the massive download size. It's like 40 gigabytes and 7gb of it are voiceovers.
They already released that information? Christ almighty! 7 Gigs of voice overs!? I knew it was supposed to be +100000 hours, but wow... just wow.

Why do I expect this so-called Origen to be a rehash of the joys of Games for Windows Live?

I really like the steam interface. Its much better than even impulse.

I probably wasn't going to buy it anyway, but I was hoping a steam sale in the future would sell it to me.
Shame.

Never mind EA, it's not like you don't have a history of ruining games in the past.

Not true. The reason Acivision doesnt have a digital distribution service yet is because they dont give the slightest fuck about the PC platform. In addition, guess what? COD Elite? Heard of it? Heard users of the service, which will be on all 3 platforms, get exclusive maps and such?
There will be no exclusive maps or anything of the likes. CoD Elite subscribers will just get the DLCs as they're released, and no extra benefits. Basically just the exact same content, but they're paying a monthly fee for that, and a bit extra to use a service which in no way makes the game unfair.

I personally look forward to Elite (As backed up by my seemingly biased reply, but meh). If it's not for ya, then go ahead and use PSN/Live/Steam or whatever tickles your fancy. Nobody's stopping you.

OT: I pre-ordered BF3 from my local EB Games.. Seeing as I much prefer Steam or Live over anything EA will have to deliver, I may switch that pre-order to the Xbox 360 version.

I wanted to say something about all the steam haters, but i really couldn't think of anything that wasn't harsh and sarcastic.

That said... if i can't get it on steam, i will get it on cd, if the cd requires me to instal Origin, i wll not be getting the game, this goes for mass effect 3, as much as i love one and two, which i own on steam...

"The problem with not letting people sell your games is you're not letting people sell your games."

Which doesn't fiscally make sense when it comes down to it, they're going to make less profit than they would if they just released it on Steam in addition to everything else. If they really want Steam's business, they should focus more on making Origin good.

Personally, I adore Steam and their customer service is very good opposed to other digital distributors I.E. the horrendous Blizzard, And with what EA has done in the past and my personal experiences with their services when I was messing with Burnout Paradise and it's DLCs. I'd Just much rather use Steam or physical media.

Though I think it's somewhat irrelevant to me, as I'm not a huge fan of almost anything that they make.

steam is more hten just a resource-sucking piece of software, its also a place to get massively good deals and be able to chat while staying in a game if you only have one monitor

There is a slight issue with the fact that Steam does business with pretty much the entire world, while Origin, like EA Store, is happy to ignore the existence of a number of countries, making it impossible to actually use the service.

That said, it's still available off D2D and such, so I don't get why people are getting their panties in a bunch. Especially if that thing from the help info site is true, getting in the way of patches and shit doesn't make me a happy gamer. And to be honest, from what I can see using Steam for certain games, it sucks with download speeds. It constantly breaks contact with the server, loses connection, slows down and just generally takes forever to download/update a game compared to a dedicated application for such things.

I love Steam for the deals, but why people are crying that they can't install their game through a DRM when their game is available DRM-free instead is beyond me. It's not like we're anywhere near the point where BF3 would be on a deal of any sort.

Wow EA... first you came for our squad leaders. Then for the commo-rose. And now, you're snubbing Steam just because you want me to install Origin?

Looks like they're forcing us to install it to play anyways, so why lose sales to take on an established company with absurd amounts of money and fans? I'll still be buying BF3 for my PC, since that's how I played every other game since BF:1942. But Ill get a physical copy and install it on Steam, where everything else is.

Uh, this is old news.
When that whole thing about EA removing games from Steam, it also meant Battlefield 3.

You guys even reported that, and I found that out by taking a link you posted.

*EDIT*
You know, there's a reason I believe that the big developers shouldn't also control things like this. It's like EA having their own console. It just ends in a lack of choice for the consumer, and us being forced into shit.
Leave the publishing work for un-biased people. Yes, that includes Valve. Valve just got a free ride for being first and not having many games.

Eh. Not like I can run it, anyway, as a silly console gamer.

Still...kinda saw it coming with EA.
Yeah,it's obvious that EA would want to whore out Origin as much as possible,so they pretty much would put all their games on Origin and leave Steam. I still think that EA is stupid for even contriving such an idea at the point in which Steam is a gaming juggernaut and pretty much has a monopoly on this kind of system.

I highly doubt the game won't make it to Steam. There's not really a better alternative. Both are way too popular to dismiss each other.

Plus, I think most people share the opinion of Valve > EA. So yeah, good luck, EA.
