Best boss battles:

1) Star Wars KOTOR 1: Darth Malik was a real ***** having to sap his energy sources before really being able to fight him was tough.

2) Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction: Fighting Bael took forever with my necromancer level 60 and even my amazon level 66.

my favorate boss battles.
Any of the Lost Odsy. boss battles.
you are always unevenly matched up against something which can dominate you easily and expected to come out alive... Your party is made up of 4 casters and one melee caster hybred. the boss you run into has a Permi-Reflect Negating any advantage your casters had and a powerful attack which sends your caster in a tizzy when it lands. you gotta work for those victories making them good in my book.

The End on Metal Gear: Snake Eater.
save and quit.
walk away for a week (or tweek internal clock)
start back up.
He died of old age! you win by Default!
the fact that patience is a solution is just awsome.

Ledgend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, sub boss- Gannon the sword fighter
the best boss battle simply because he is equial to you in skill and power. it isn't enough to just press the button at the right time or find the right button combo, you acctually have to have a tid bit of skill in fighting to prevail. it is the first time in the LoZ games which i felt i had an equial opponent.

Half Life
Gargantuan.
you can't kill em directly with out cheating, instead you have to kill them by proxy. luring them into a death trap or something like the such. one of the first instances in an FPS where the enemy can not be killed throught he usage of overwhelming might.

I have to say that in my gaming history there are a few battles that stand out:

1) King Ikana from The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask was awesome and it almost made me cry in the ending cinematic.

2) Dagoth Ur and that giant robot (forget the name). Just awesome in so many ways i can't describe them all.

3) The final boss battle in Oblivion with Mehrunes Dagon.

4) Any Stalfos battle from OoT, even though it wasn't technically a boss I just love all the dodging and slashing.

my favourite and most annoying boss battle was Doku from ninja gaiden black. a giant blue flame samurai kicks ass
As long as you had 2 Talsiman of rebirth he seemed very easy (then again getting more than 1 was always a challenge)

The Great Mighty Poo, Conkers Bad Fur Day on N64. And all the other bosses in that game... Just funny. Especially the Alien at the end, with the intercom saying classic lines such as "Throw the alien out and shut the bloody door!" I won't forget that game in a hurry. Most fun boss was the vampire. Pooing on villagers to stun them and then flying them into a meat grinder was good clean(ish) fun.

Personally, I liked the Carpainter in Earthbound.

I forget exactly the circumstances around the boss battle, but I remember the one at the end of Lunar: TSSC to be really moving and powerful.

And, as far as fun, I also really like the boss battles in Super Marios World 2: Yoshi's Island.

The fight against the opera singer from Rayman 1.
Argh, that boss practically had me in tears as a kid. That whole game was just brutal at all times, but still in my top 5 platformers ever...

It doesn't matter which game it is, but I love fighting Ridley from the Metroid series. A lot of the other bosses require strategy, but any time you and Ridley get together it's like a street fight where anything goes, always brutal and unrelenting.

I'm not sure which the best boss would be, but certainly the most satisfying boss fight I've ever done was Emerald Weapon in FF7, because I didn't know the Aire Tam Storm trick (so obvious once someone told me >_<) and so I had to kill him before he used it. And because I hate grinding, I only had a handful of weak mastered materia (woo, Fire), and was only level 66 or so. I DID have KoTR at level 3, and Final Attack/Phoenix combined at level 3, which meant I could actually survive for more than a few turns.

I must have fought him about 100 times, and each fight lasted at least 20 minutes, but when I finally killed him and went up about 5 levels it was amazing. Sephiroth was a massive anti-climax afterwards, though :(

I have to say that the final boss fight in KH2 was great. You got to cut apart buildings, with a giant key. It just doesn't get cooler than that. The bosses in Jak and Daxter were great too though. Always liked using the eco in new and fun ways.

Now how can Ganon not be the top baddie in the Legend of Zelda?! Simple. I present to you the best boss of the game

1). Dark Link (OoT)- He can match your sword skills blow-for-blow, and he strikes from nowhere. He's one of the hardest bosses I've ever faced. And he does count as a boss, since he is considered a sub-boss.
Calling that beast a sub boss is like calling Yahtzee Croshaw a slow talker.

Man, I don't tend to play the kinds of games that have "boss fights."

I reckon the most recent one I really enjoyed was fighting Angel Agnus, in DMC4. There's probably better out there that I don't know about, though. Fighting Saren at the end of Mass Effect was fun...
The fight itself wasn't that great, it was the lead up that I loved. First time through I maxed out my charm, which meant I kept trying to convince him. When he

Shot himself in the head.

I really figured I'd cheated myself out of a boss battle. It was great that they went to check that he was dead, which is something most video-game protagonists fail to do 99% of the time

At times like that I rely upon my old motto that it's better to cheat your way out of a tough fight than spend a week on it and when you finally succeed, realise that the game is no longer any fun. I'd rather enjoy a game and make the playing time worthwhile than abandon it and waste the hours spent playing.

Please note that I do not condone cheating of any form on multiplayer games. That is just pathetic. On single player though, exploit your royal arse off!

As several people have already said, Stallord from Twilight Princess.
How does it get any better than dashing through a giant sand pit riding a giant spinning top attacking a giant skeletal dragon while avoiding zombies?

It doesn't.

One of the best for me was beating the weapons in FFVII without using Mime or max rank (2 or 3 I think) Knights of Round, or those odd little exploits with various buff botions. Especially the Emerald Weapon. That fight was epic. Took like 30-40 minutes. Took a bit of luck, though. Sometimes he'd get all pissy and do that Iron Tam Storm thing and 9999 everyone. Gotta love Phoenix materia!
