F.E.A.R replica soldiers often behaved in interesting ways. Shotting at me no matter the angle , flanking.
I loved fighting them.

STALKER too, the AI was reasonably good. They just tend to fall for traps way too easily. They dont try to flank enough (like using windows in a building to shoot me dead). they dont wait for me to come out, they tend to look for me when im waiting in ambush. Still, fun to fight.

Halo: Reach's AI is fantastic. Its one of the few games I can think of where I actually got frustrated at an enemy, not because they were cheap, but because they were so damn GOOD.

I thought the AI in Splinter Cell Conviction were pretty good, especially on the harder levels.
Smart, yes, but extremely annoying. "WHERE ARE YOU, FISHER?" "COME OUT SO I CAN SHOOT YOU!" "I NEED YOUR INPUT ON SOME WALLPAPER SAMPLES, FISHER!"

My input: I agree with the chess one. I may not be even close to being average when it comes to playing chess, but it's like playing against Bobby Fisher sometimes.

the AIs made in valve games are always top notch, but id have to say halo's enemy ai. they try and flank you and use tactics and dodge like a real enemy would. and they usually dont fall for the same trick twice.

The Total War series' AI has some flashes of brilliance, and a whole lot of exploitable problems with its AI. Overall, it's better than most.

Stalker: SoC has wonderful AI. It doesn't feel like is it "cheating" as much as enabling the NPCs to communicate and semi-intelligently work together to hunt you down. Good fun!

I don't see why everyone is complimenting the FEAR ai. I played through the 2nd and I guess I didn't see the advanced AI in action due to how crammed and linear the hallways and hallways hold like 90% of the action.

About the turrent, he's scrippted not to shoot if you lack the ability to see him from your position because the game assumes that you are going to use a nearby cart with boxes to push and use as cover. Other probelms of Half-life 2 AI is due to the fact that the game is 7 years old. No matter what you argue, the AI was revolutionary for its day.

Is it really that hard for other people? I don't mean to brag, but this is like the fifth time I've heard someone complain about it this week (than again, I read a gaming forum). I can't remember me or my friends ever having any major problems with them. But than again, we all have some hobby that probably improves reflexes.
No. I will dance circles around a punch him in the back until he dies, laughing all the way. I'm just buzzed as fuck on ephedrine and prone to tapping out hyperbolic rants for my own amusement. If anything, I'm impressed at how competent they are at dealing with threats from all directions.

As I said previously, however, they are a ************ and a half on LASO. But then again, what isn't?

FF tactics had some pretty dickish ai, that being said i have never played a FPS with good enemy ai. Most if not all are easily outsmarted and in general the ai is just derpy.

AI in Halo ODST talked to each other. In Firefight. It was awesome.
"I'm going after him!"
"I can help!"

Worms.

No kidding. That AI cheats. And it can toss a granade in the pocket of your pants from twenty miles away while standing a wall twice your size with a fancy shaped object on top of it.
I'd say this is closer to cheating, but yes, I know what you mean. Still, it's less being clever and more just taking advantage of, well, being an AI - when it comes to some aspects of games, the AI will not make a mistake unless it wants to/is programmed to.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R human enemies are terrifyingly smart at times, they actively flank you and use distractions. They don't all move in brainless determined unison like most game enemies and even a firefight with a single foe can be dangerous if he catches you out of position. They also don't sit behind the same cover for a whole minute spraying gunfire ineptly every 8 seconds while you sprint up and jam a fork in their eyehole.
Oh yes, this. Quite clever, though there was this one guy in Red Forest who dived behind cover when I was firing at him. The cover was explosive barrels.

Monolith, so I suppose suicidal lunacy is practically in character.

Anyway, for my part, I'd say AI War is quite brilliant, as is the Galactic Civilizations 2 AI if you turn the difficulty up.
