Persona fucking 4! /thread!

I could write a huge essay over every single little faucet of the game but I have 10 minutes before I have to leave the house so i'll just say it has the single best mystery story ever with great characters, a huge 40/50/60 hour play time, sweet ass dungeon and boss designs and a fridge!

I think The Fridge is the Dark Horse of the entire game. Nobody expected it to be that popular.

Also Naoto is in the running for the best female character with a hat in fiction. In the running is also Noel Vermillion and Lana Skye.

I must have a thing for women in berets :3
Sorry, but I had a little chuckle at "faucet", I think you meant facet.

Anyway, gotta be Tetris, pure game. Other than that, one of the Souls games or the Jak series would be mine.

Ah ha I just noticed. We call faucets "taps" in the UK, y'know the thing that water comes out from. We never call them faucets so oops my bad.

The problem with this old chestnut is whether you take the date of the game into account or not. If you do then my answer would possibly be System Shock 2 (yes I was one of the handful of people who actually bought it at release thank you very much) although it did have respawning enemies which is a "feature" I've always hated. If we're not taking date into account then it would be something recent, because games have IMO gotten a lot better over the years, so probably Dishonored for me. I just love that game.
I think on systemshock.org there's a mod which allows you to choose spawn rates - either to boost them or decrease them (to nothing, if necessary). If you still have the disk for SS2 it also has instructions and stuff on getting it running on Win7 .

http://www.systemshock.org is the main sight. Have a look around, it's pretty cool.
http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=81.0 is the actual mod.

Best game ever made? I don't really know. Maybe...

Slaves to Armok, God of Blood: Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress: Histories of X and Y

The depth! The blood! The continous expansion! The megaprojects! The mermaid farming! The blood! The death of elves! The psychopathic fanbase!
The awesome.

Can't really say. I'm not fixating on one at the moment. Xenoblade Chronicles? Portal/Portal 2? Infamous 2? Minecraft? Each is an outstanding game that doesn't really have issues that give it negative points. I would call them Peerless, but each of them has similar games, but they win out over them.

Pffft. HL had the better story but the design, atmosphere, weapons, game play and challenges are improved in HL2.
It's the complete opposite for me, Hl2 had the better story but Hl had much better gameplay.
I can understand story, probably helps that the characters have a little more life to them. If you don't mind, could explain why you feel the game play is better in the original.

It will always be either Heroes 3 or Warcraft 3 for me. Can't decide between the two but there's not really any other candidates.

Bioshock, the game just has about everything right from the story to the atmosphere to the gameplay. It's also one of the few games that gets better each time I play it because each time I tand to find something new that I hadn't noticed before.

Pong.

No really, Pong.

Why? Well...

> Not only is it widely recognizable but it's likely been played by just about anyone who plays video games.
> Has retained it's playability for decades.
> Is easy to learn, quick to pick up, and can be enjoyed solo or with friends.
> Is likely the single most bug free game ever programmed.

For these reasons alone, one could arguably call Pong the "greatest video game ever made".

For me, it's Metroid Prime, for many of the reasons you loved Super Metroid.

But honestly, I don't think I could survive if I could pick one and only one game to play for the rest of eternity. I need variety. For every super violent fast paced shooter like Killzone or Call of Duty, I need a slower, more peaceful game like Flower. For every high speed racing game like Burnout Paradise, I need a less realistic, more cartoony game like Mario Kart or Blur. For every platformer like Mario, Rayman, or LittleBigPlanet, I need a cinematic, story driven plot game like The Walking Dead or Uncharted. For every crazy hard game like Contra 4, Ghosts n Goblins, or Dark Souls, I need an easier game like Kirby's Epic Yarn.

dl;dr: I LOVE GAMES

Planescape: Torment. Playing that game was like reading the best fantasy novel ever written, only with several outcomes to every encounter and a dozen endings, you were really writing the story yourself.

Sonic & Knuckles.

Simply put, classic 16-bit Sonic platform awesomeness, two distinctly different playable characters, lots of secrets and alternate paths, fun and challenging special stages, going Super, catchy tunes, and an awesome Final Boss stage.

Still not convinced? Just slap on Sonic 1, 2, or 3 on top of Sonic & Knuckles and enjoy.

Those are the qualifications for a GOOD game.
Not the very best game EVER made.

...

What is the best game ever is not supposed to be an open question.
You either answer:
A.Half Life 2
B.Planescape Torment
C.Deus Ex
Chess

...

And just to avoid the banfilter - silly questions require silly answers ;-)

My personal favorite is Metroid Prime.
I haven't tried any of the older Metroids and maybe I'll change my mind after I get my hands on them but until then...
Metroid Prime.

Don't mention mermaid farming! You might trigger flashbacks!

Anyways, Slaves to Armok, God of Blood: Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress: Histories of X and Y is clearly the right answer here. Just think about what version 1.0 will be like!

Half-Life 2. That's it, end of discussion, we're done here, everyone leave the thread immediately because there is no further purpose to this discussion. Go ahead and shut the site down too, because we really are just done here to THAT extent. Might as well close down the entire internet while you're at it.

In all seriousness, yeah, HL2. It gets everything right and nothing wrong. Perfect game.
