For those saying mods are crap, broken and pointless, look for the ones you want and don't get any old rubbish that appears in the recent section of the mod community websites and if you try one and don't like it, delete it. Fairly simple really.

Nice, if not unexpected news. My PC probably won't run it, it used to run Oblivion nicer than my xbox, but even that was jerky, I've got no chance of playing Skyrim on PC without some massive investment. Bloody ancient AGP knackeredness.

Anyhoo, some of the little things the modding community put out can massively enrich a gaming experience. I had a few mods on Oblivion and by far my favourite was a tiny mod that made your owned houses appear on the world map, as fast-travel enabled locations. It saved a ton of unnecessary arsing around and getting lost. Damn that game has shitty menus in vanilla.

So, modding yay! Still that doesn't render console versions pointless when most people will struggle to shell out for a decent gaming rig.

1-Mass effect 2

2-Skyrim

3-Battlefield 3
You know you edit your own post right? you don't need 3 posts in a row to say different things.

Thus the console versions are rendered pointless.

not really, its an easier way of getting achievements/trophies than having to deal with the Games on Windows mess. plus people like vanilla games too, contrary to PC elitist belief.
Sorry, but being a major console player myself, I have to call bullcrap on your statement. Morrowind//Oblivion changed for the better due the Mod support out there. The game is played to this very day even still on the PC and the Mod community is still active.

Console users on the other hand? Barely mate, the Console versions are really rendered useless after a few tries whereas the PC can enjoy basically unlimited replays/longevity without becoming stale or repeative.
Or people could play the actual game, and not some half-baked add-ons that people come up with.
The idiotic/bad ones easily get weeded out by a rating system. Nonetheless, prominent mods sometimes even overhauled the entire game or even better, added an entire soaked quality and quantity 2nd main quest to complete. Sometimes, it even rivals the original, which is granted isn't hard.

I don't recall the console Oblivion to let me ride and fly a Dragon. No indeed, I miss that. I am forever cursed experiencing mods for the TES series. TES on the Console so far has been very bland and empty for me.
so you'd rate the original game poorly then?

This is excellent news. I can't picture a Bethesda RPG that can't be modded any longer. Even the ability to make little tweaks in the gameplay is a valuable asset.

The new tools will be called the "Creation Kit," which refers to Bethesda's new Creation engine, and is rather apt, considering what they're for.
Really? A new engine? I thought they were just using a heavily modified version of the Gamebryo engine. Unless they were and they just decided to rename it.

Anywho, yays for mod tools, I guess. I don't use mods much, and I tried to learn how to use the tools, but I lost interest pretty quickly. Still, mods are always nice to have around, and I know this news will make a lot of other people happy.

To be really frank, yes. I would. TES is one franchise I would never ever would give a high rating with the mindset the PC will surpass the console from day one.

But like I said, I am probaly spoiled after experiencing wonderful stuff in Morrowind // Oblivion on the PC.
PC Oblivion will never surpass its console counter-parts because Modded Oblivion isn't Oblivion.

Well, as an XBox 360 player, and owning a Mac (WON'T TRADE IT IN FOR A WINDOWs UNTIL IT DIES), I may be out of the modding loop.
HOWEVER< there is always a way, and this may be made easier with the USB ports on the 360.
Turns out you could mod Morrowind on the XBox.
I was pleasantly surprised.

Alright, I am not one to insult someone on the internet. But that is the ost ignorant crap I have ever read, don't bother quoting me again. Oblivion = Oblivion. Much like WoW is still WoW with all the add-ons attached to it or expansions.
I disagree. But I should clarify, official parts of the game are what make up the game, not fan-based addons. It's like saying Starwars fanfiction is a legitimate part of Starwars. You're right though, WoW is WoW with the expansions, because the expansions are an official part of the game.

Are you honestly trying to say that Oblivion can't be improved?

I don't know why, but I read the title as "Bethesda Confirms Skynet Will Be Moddable". This thread makes alot more sense after reading the OP now!

OT: Yay mods!
