This must be a joke, and it is. But still, someone might still do it, i have seen worse names. Maybe the reward for this "quest" is free name-change for your child or something. :D

Hmm. As awesome as that is, I don't think I'd ever want to have the name of my child directly associated with a marketing ploy.

Kind of takes the personal joy out of that part of becoming a parent, y'know?
you can just change the name right after you've gotten your reward. ^^

I'd just call him "Dave" and say his mother used the Swedish spelling or something if anyone asked.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Dovahkiin sounds like a reasonable name (as opposed to straight-out Dragonkin, which would be reason enough for the kid getting beaten up every Thursday). Still, naming a kid that just for the sake of a contest? Not all that practical. Doesn't really say much about the parents, either.

If only I could have had a child being born this year...I am saddened by the lack of this.

Easy loophole solution.
Give the child the name as a middle name (it should still count) and have a Caesarean section on the 11th

the only problem is that you might have to get a person pregnant just to win this contest.
Gstaff says no middle names.
Further loophole solution; name the child dragonborn and give it a normal middle name like george. Then just call it george. You'd be surprised at how many people actually do this.

Erm... I really don't see the problem here.
The cost of changing your child's name is under $200.
If the prize is over, it's a simple matter of math.

If the prize is $15'000, hell, that's an easy $14'800. (The last woman to put her child's name up for auction got $15'000).

This wouldn't take longer than 2 months to rectify, and this is with about 20-30 hours of actual work in those months. Total prize therefore is about triple the national average salary for 2 months, and over 60 times minimum wage if we go per hour.

You don't even need to tell anybody. You can start using the name you're going to change it to from day 1. That is if you're really worried about the "psychological impact" (yes, it deserves quote marks) of being called a slightly more original name.

Especially when many of their classmates are going to end up with weird names anyway. Seriously [http://www.babynames.com/Names/A/], just look at the list of baby names. They're not all James and Jane.

EDIT: This all assumes what you some people are saying is true about them being bullied because of their name, and that there's anything wrong with the name Dovkhiin, and that you have to change it immediately or doom will befall them.

It's not like you named them Hitler (Seriously [http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,479904,00.html]), or Aryan Nation. Hell, it's not even as bad as: A, Unknown, Sydney-Harbour Bridge, @ [http://edition.cnn.com/2007/funnynews/08/16/strange.name.reut/index.html], Ladies and Gentlemen (Courtesy of Louis CK [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNSf-KQORRk]), Superman(Indian name), Batman(Turkish guy), Kal El (Nicolas Cage's Son), Prometheus (Cenk Uygur's son), etc.

nice i would do this but i don't want a child. besides if the kid really doesn't like his/her name or you don't really want to name them that, just change their name or they will when they are older.

Dovahklin is not a bad name, I seriously doubt one would get bullied for that name, at least where I grew up (London) where there were so many ethnicitys with so many names no one really knew. Kids will just assume its a non-american/british name.

I reckon an Icelandic family will win this, I suspect that "Dovahkiin" is practically already a name up there!

No offence to Iceland, I just can't make heads nor tails of their language.
