Oh look, a Bethesda patch fucked something up.

There's a shocker. You know Bethesda, if your going to take on the task of QA for an Obsidian game, you really need to be on the ball. And you haven't been on the ball with the last few games you made. I really shouldn't be surprised, but damn, its just ridiculous.

And yes, I know Obsidian developed this, but Bethesda handled the QA and I'm pretty sure is handling the patches(either testing them or making them themselves) while Obsidian does the DLC.
As far as I'm aware, it is the actual developers who patch the games.

But year, Obsidian + Gamebryo = watch the fuck out.
I'd imagine Bethesda would handle the patches to give Obsidian more time to developing DLC. They already handled the QA, so its not too much of a stretch. And besides, they still need to test the patches and ship them off to MS/Sony for further testing.

Which actually raises another question, how'd this get past Sony/Microsoft?
Depends on the size of the development team then. DLC teams usually are a small group, so are the guys that do patches, etc. I don't know how big Obsidian is (not very, I wouldn't imagine) so unless they're now working full-steam on something else, I would still think it falls to them.

Either way, its still bizarre that this got through. Still, if its not affecting everyone then freak accidents happen.
Well they are working on Dungeon Siege 3, and have suffered some layoffs recently [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109567-Obsidian-Entertainment-Hit-With-Layoffs]. So yeah.

Ah, could be Bethesda then. Kinda surprised they've been laying people off if they're working on something new.

Yo dawg, we put an update in your update, so you can update while you update.

OT: It has gotten pretty absurd, that is true...

Edit: Ninja'd so hard.

It's a good thing I didn't plan on continuing New Vegas until after the Gears beta ends. Everything should be good and cleared up by then.

I was probably going to start New Vegas again during the summer.
So, the new patch will be out by then, right?
[sub]I certainly hope so...[/sub]
The new patch /is/ out, however, now we need a new new patch! How fun!

But still, I am finding this utterly hilarious.

Ummm... wasn't it automatic for Steam users?
They said 360, so I think PS3 and PC players are in the clear...
I originally heard that the ps3 was the only one with the problem.
Either way, I'm glad I haven't put this game in for months. It's going around my friends right now like a cheap hooker.

I've already gone through the phases of owning a Bethesda game.
Anger at how buggy it is.
Humor at how absurdly buggy it is.
Rage, that they only patched out the rather benign exploits and non-game breaking bugs.
Confusion at how they can make a game so interesting yet so broken.
And Acceptance as I get rid of it.

I like how all the reviews said that there are some glitches but they're working on it... half a year later:

...I still blame underpowered Microsoft-designed hardware. Keeping track of a huge, open gameworld like that is hard enough when you have real power under the hood. I shudder to think what these developers are going through trying to make it work on that... thing...
Fun fact: New Vegas was split into 3 sections because consoles didn't have enough memory to handle it as one big place.

Although they could have gotten rid of all the useless clutter in the place. Which would free up quite a bit of memory, since it won't have to render every piece of clutter thats there.

Ah Obsidian, just a colossal joke at this point.
I understand that Bethesda let them make the game to appease all the people who whining old fallout fans, but they're a competent developer! Couldn't they just throw a little money Obsidian's way to use their name, but keep them completely out of the loop?
Plus then we could keep the Fallout games away from the west coast, and put it in interesting places instead.

Hopefully when the update is fixed, it will itself fix the bugs that have already made the game unplayable for me. I still can't use the elevator in the Lucky 38 (that's a complete game breaker since it prevents me from progressing any further with the story) and, after completing the Dead Money DLC, I returned to retrieve ED only to find the thing had gone berserk and was killing everyone on sight.

If you bought any other kind of product in this sort of state, you'd get an immediate refund. Gamers should not tolerate this kind of thing and reviewers should reflect it properly in their write-ups. The Escapist gave it 4 stars. Given the condition it was released in, it should have been 1. It doesn't matter how many good points the game has, it's unplayable.

This is just hilarious! "We heard you liked bugs, so we put even more bugs in your bugfix!"

I expected that a game running Bethesda,s engine would have bugs but a UPDATE that adds them?
