So, developers are into trolling too? Hmm, I was hoping that was one of the quirks only had by Bungie Employees.
They're not trolling, only saying that they are expected to do a better job introducing the game's systems to console players, whereas on PC they can simply assume the players will bang their heads against the game until they get it.

They even say that console and PC gamers want deep experiences just the same.
Stereotyping an entire, unique, different group isn't trolling? Since when?
Aren't you the guy who was making assumptions about vegetarianism a few hours back?

I'd say it is the developers who lack patience when they'd rather throw a huge mechanics tutorial on your face and tell you to go fuck yourself than try to weave it into the gameplay. And not only patience, but creativity too. So, in a sense, console-only developers are better at their job.

Speaking as a console gamer, I agree with this statement. I do like deep games. But don't waste my time with tons of pointless bullshit.

You obviously haven't been following what Valve does to its fanbase ;)

OT: From what I've seen, thats true.

Plus, as Glademaster said above, most console gamers (at least if xbox live is anything to go by) are kids/teenagers. Or adults who act like kids/teenagers. Yes yes I know there are plenty of normal decent people who play games. But after playing online for many years, and working in game retail, I'm finding it harder and harder to believe.

Trolling is done on purpose. When someone trolls, they usually know they're wrong. They're just saying it to see people get ticked off.
Weird, I've gotten suspended for trolling when I didn't mean to.
Then someone mistook your intentions. Like you're mistaking the intentions of the subjects of this article right now. But don't threat - that's what the internet is in its basis. Giving a great opportunity not just for communication, but ESPECIALLY *mis*communication.

Yeah and just because the remote control was standard the idiot tv industry said we ALL had the attention span of 30 seconds...
That didn't stop the "industry" from going for consistently better TVs and peripherals aimed at their target demographics.

It was the TV corps excuse to make more retarded and moronicly simple shows. it had nothing to do with the audience. Well they wouldn't make it if no one watched it? Bullshit, they MAKE everything. We HAVE to watch whatever swill they give us...
I don't think you understand how television shows work. It has everything to do with the audience. Low audience = low ratings = no money for the company's continued existence. The best current strategy for producers is to make reality shows. Why? Because it caters to as many people as possible. They need their audience in order to perpetuate their existence. The fact that the shows are swill simply means that they realize that a niche appeal won't keep them going. See shows like "Dead Like Me" for examples of what happens when you make a good show for not enough people.

So now the game industry who has robbed us of turned based games, rpg and military strat are now making the same excuses to just avoid rpgs? Hey game makers...
Are we even reading the same article? No one is avoiding making RPGs. Levine and Howard are simply saying that it's harder to pull off an RPG system on a console than it would be to execute the same system on a PC, because good RPG stories require setup, which requires patience on the audience's part - patience that console gaming inherently does not encourage.

IF YOUR TO INEPT AND STUPID TO MAKE A GOOD IN DEPTH RPG THEN DON'T MAKE EXCUSES THE WORLD DOESN'T WANT IT JUST DON'T MAKE IT.
You're
1) Nerdraging.
2) Possessed of a grasp on the English language generally reserved for coffee tables
3) Completely missing the point
4) Not proposing anything that would solve either the issue of inefficient RPG story development, or the issue of console gaming not requiring enough patience.

Don't tell the millions of rpg fans we don't want the game cause you want the new halo fps golden goose you will never make.

God, if your honestly dumb enough to listen to the little prepuebs that cry at Kotor being stupid cause you have to "WAIT TO ATTACK! OMFG" It's like listening to a kid ***** about not being able to tackle someone in a baseball game. If you don't like the rules of X game don't play this game....play game Y.
Again, your reading comprehension sucks. They *want* to be able to create equally strong RPGs on consoles as they do on PCs, and there's absolutely no reason not to try it, nor is there lack of demand for it. But ignoring the underlying obstacles, no matter how taboo, would just be stupid and asking for failure.

I'm all for making things easier to understand, but that doesn't mean cutting shit out of your game, it means making it coherent and making it have a point, if you can't justify something existing in your game's universe, you can't justify it existing in the game.

So, the point of having a sword is that you want to kill people who want to kill you, that's simple.
But what's the point of having a world where everyone is the exact same strength as yourself?

Challenge is the essence of a game, I find.
Removing it leaves you with a world with little point.

"I can help this village not-be-invisable!"
"Why?"
"Because I get this!"
"What are you going to do with it, kill those things you can kill already?"
"I suppose..."

So, my main gripe is how Bethesda approaches "accessible", it's frankly kind of insulting.

I think they're right; generally, I think the PC gaming crowd is more "hardcore" (yes, we all hate the hardcore/casual thing and no, none of us know what to replace the words with) then the console players.

I was stating facts. A vegetarian diet is not healthy and you should take vitamins if you are going to do it, otherwise you face a heightened risk of illness.
Actually, those "factual" deficiencies are only potential health issues. Well-balanced vegetarian diets can easily meet the nutritional demands of a healthy human being, and comes with the added benefits of lesser risk for heart disease, Alzheimer's, type 2 diabetes and obesity. Among others.

But I digress; I was merely poking fun at something which could be interpreted as hypocritical. All in good fun, sir.

And as I tell everyone who doesn't look at my profile/bio. Had a mild stroke leaving the Navy. So if that's the best you have against me on grammar and spelling hey have at it. I see it as you making fun of someone who lost their leg not being able to walk or run like you.

The point is and is hard to convey more and more since the good old mind short circut, because a few people whine, you don't lower the standards of games, schools, tv music to amuse the idiots of the world.

Nerdrage? Eh maybe been raining for two days straight and nothing better to do than amuse my kid and play on the forums. But beats making fun of peoples medical states and playing grammar nazi... ohh look a one legged guy. Go gettum for that funny way he gets around ;p

Guys, I think it's very important at this juncture to remember that the console lovers in this thread very much do NOT represent the typical console consumer. I understand why you feel offended, but the vast majority of folks rocking a console aren't as devoted to gaming as you are and aren't as willing to devote the time to learn a game as you are. Think about how many copies of Rock Band and Guitar Hero that sold. Or Madden. Or any number of other hugely popular games. Now how many of those consumers do you think are really like you? Educated and devoted gamers, whatever their platform of choice, are the minority of the greater gaming public.

Gaming used to be a hobby espoused by the erudite and brainy - it had to be, because once upon a time, you had to know a thing or two about computers to indulge in it. That's no longer the case. You can have a satisfying and immense gaming experience just by pushing a few buttons. It's absolutely wonderful that people who don't want to eat, sleep, and breathe games can enjoy what we love so dearly, but it also means that, yes, developers are going to have to lower that learning curve as much as possible to let people in.

I say all of this as a devout console gamer.

I find that kind of insulting :/

I don't want to feel like my games are being dumbed down just because i primarily play on a console, I'd be getting these games for PC if i had the money to buy a decent one.
Hell there's no reason why console games shouldn't have keyboard/mouse support, give me more of that and I'd learn the same bucket-load of hotkeys that a PC gamer would have to.
