awesome. i loved bioshock 2, thought it was better than 1 in every way, story included.

but this looks like it'll blow 1 and 2 out of the water. pun intended.
Bioshock 2 was in NO way better story related then the first one.
Hello sir, I'd like to introduce you to something called "Subjective Statements"

Personally, I didn't like Bioshock 2 as much as the first.

But this looks very unique and imaginative. I'd definitely play it.

I think "Columbia" is the exact opposite of Rapture, very nationalistic and full of American exceptionalism. It's also possible that Ryan is going to be in the game, the man on the balcony. It fits with the plot and he may get fed up with Columbia's jingoism and go ahead and start Rapture.

I'm amused by some of the ideas floating around:

1. Rapture is Columbia sunk into the sea! -- Lord no. It's explicitly stated how Rapture is founded in Bioshock 2. Don't be daft.

3. THREE GAMES NOW! Bioshock is totally being milked to death. -- Quite how you've reached this conclusion when we're looking at a game that's doing something genuinely different with the Bioshock formula and a world in which there are over 13 Final Fantasy titles and nobody's complained is completely baffling.

I'm looking forward to this immensely. A new, strange location to explore and the idea of breeding horror and dread in broad daylight seems right up my street.
Well, Andrew Ryan could of easily covered it all up and just said he created it from the ground up. The city was built over a large crevace i think i remember, which a crash from a city could occur. Andrew could easily of just fixed the city.

Also, all the main series of FF games are set in different worlds so thats why people haven't complained.
I quite like the idea of Columbia falling into the sea to become Rapture. The story we were told in Bioshock 2 could be a lie to cover up Columbia's mistakes, because Andrew Ryan being who he is would not really tell of the things he messed up on. But the dates of Bioshock 1 may not match Columbia's

I have this strange feeling that that one girl is the thing really keeping the city up in the air the propellers are just for show. you save the girl the city falls (Into the sea) ryan gets pissed and low and behold.

ehm....steampunk. right....apparently I'm one of only two people on the internet who do not like steampunk (or any of the other "punks") so I must say I'm unimpressed. That, and the shooting from the first two Bioshock games was pretty disappointing, so I'm just gonna say "pass" for now.

How about AeroShock? Seems fitting considering the location.

Why is this called Bioshock? Honestly, keep the "shock" part and name it something else. Name it Aeroshock or something. Other than that it looks great.
I guess great minds think alike huh? Also to clarify, I'm not implying you copied me as I put that in the other thread discussing this in gaming discussion. Just thought it nice to know someone else had came to the same conclusion.

Slightly more on topic, the only thing I'm disappointed about here is that we have to wait until at least 2012 for this. It'll be interesting to see where the series goes after this though. After a city underwater and a city in the sky, one on land just seems too tame. Perhaps an underground city next? A city on space seems a stretch, but after all I'm not going to end up ranting about how that setting would be unrealistic. So to those who complain that a city in the sky is too surreal, especially considering the time in which it is set, it should be remembered that games should not be constrained by what we deem to be 'realistic' or not. If all games were restricted to the realm of realisticity then gaming would surely become a much less interesting hobby due to a lack of variety and imagination.

Hmm I thought 2K Games made the first two games so i'm not sure about this.
Irrational Games was just working under the name 2K at the time Bioshock was released, so it is still the same devs working on it :)

Hmmm... I honestly think this would have made a much better Bioshock 2 - though I haven't actually played the second one (and I really really should!) Having Bioshock 2 being set in the same environment kinda made an expectation for the franchise - people expect to see more of the same, the same rapture, etc.

If they wished the franchise to be more liberal with the setting and story (like in Final Fantasy games, which continuously change from game to game), then they should have shown that the story being told in the Shock universe is a diverse one, not entirely set in Rapture and Rapture alone.

Nevertheless, this is a great trailer, and I eagerly anticipate the coming game!

I like the idea, but one thing is so retarded I just can't stand it. The Big Daddy look alike guys have exposed hearts. It looks awesome, but what's practical with that? If i were to design a superhuman, I'd put most armor around his weakest part. Let's bet the fastest (or only) way to kill these guys will be aiming for the heart. Really stupid design.
Perhaps they gave it a weak spot just in case it went on a rampage.
Or to make it easy to get to in the case of cardiac arrest? Or if the heart needs to be replaced?

ANOTHER Bioshock sequel?

lets review this series, shall we?

Bioshock 1: The story of one man's dream world at the bottom of the sea, and it's eventual destruction. The protagonist kills the bad guy, Rapture falls, and everyone is dead.

Bioshock 2: 10 years later, Rapture is still the home of hundreds of humans and splicers and big daddies, despite all the leaks, civil war, and explosions from the first game in what I call the "retcon" approach to sequels. This time you play as a Big Daddy, thereby destroying the terrifying, lumbering beast's intrigue and everything that was interesting about them.

Bioshock Infinite (initial impression): Bioshock 1&2. But instead of a pseudo paradise under the sea, plagued by monsters and civil war, the story takes place in a pseudo paradise in the SKY, plagued by monsters and civil war.

Am I the only one who thinks this series should have stopped after the first game?

Basically the exact same thoughts as mine. I already wrote them in this thread though, so I won't repeat myself.

I agree. My immediate reaction to the trailer was that they are making entirely the same game, except for a different aesthetic. It seems like they are playing it safe again.

I'm playing through the second right now. It's not actually a bad game, though it does feel fairly superfluous compared to the first, and has far less in terms of impact.

I agree. I mean I love Bioshock 1 and 2 and I loved the whole setting of Rapture and the Splicers and whatnot. But this is just looks like a different franchise in general for me. I mean I would go head over heals for this if I didn't love the first two so much. The only way I will accept this as a new Bioshock game with the franchise going in the same direction as Final Fantasy is if there is some closure to the Rapture saga. If at the end of the new DLC Rapture has a self destruction and there is no trace of the city left and Tenenbaum either helps Eleanor with the new little sisters and improves the world, adopts her or stops her by harvesting the slug in her stomach (Depending on the outcome of the main game read from the save data) and then the lose ends are tied up. Bottom line, HAVE SOME F-ING CLOSURE!!!

I love the first Bio-Shock few games made now have as much an effect on me as Bio-Shock 1 did, I still get chills at the opening scene. The second one wile still a good game was a bit of a letdown for me. I don't give two shits about online multi-player and 2's story was lacking.
I like the idea of pulling a "Final Fantasy" with the Bio-Shock franchise and having each game be more or less independent from the others, they could experiment with different themes, visual styles, settings, stories. hell maybe they could do a cyberpunk style Bio-Shock game (steampunk is overrated and yes I could see that being a bit redundant with the existence of the System Shock games). This could help prevent Bio-Shock as a franchise from stagnating.

... So bioshock has changed hands again, and now we get something even less in line with the original. "Okay, oaky... we saw bioshock 2 kinda tanked, so we're going to make it better. We're going to make it in... THE SKY! YES! You are also, instead of being a (twist not withstanding) normal guy thrust into the entire situation, a secret agent! Fuck yea!!"
What? They cut off the devteam's hands and replaced them with different hands?
