I don't think motion controls are as completely useless as a lot of people seem to, but there is no way you could effectively control a good RPG with them, it's annoying enough using a controller instead of a keyboard, and it's an equally horrible idea to attempt to toss some MCEs (Motion Control Events) in for random things like shoving a guy out the window. Switching control methods would completely shatter immersion. Some simple shooters and sword fighting games could make great use of them, but nothing in need of complicated controls.

Hey who knows, it might work.

I don't really see it happening, though. Not really looking forward to the idea of motion-control RPGs

If Bioware says so, I'll listen. They've earned that much.

I agree. I highly respect Bioware and if they say something, I assume that they know what they're talking about. All they're saying is that motion control is something that should be experimented with. If it works, keep it and if not, at least they tried.

Wait, so a controller that features regular old buttons *and* motion control?
Holy shit guys, I think Bioware's on to something here...

Yahtzee must be so proud to see his opinions parroted around the forums all the time. Well, he would be if he wasn't a dick.

Yes motion controls could be used for revolutionary gaming, but they won't. It's much cheaper and just as profitable to make shovelware for the idiots.

If it isn't a controller, it isn't a console game I want to play. No gesturing either, give me buttons. I like me some buttons.

Et tu, BioWare?

For the first time in four years, I feel a little dirty to call myself a fan.

I hope you're happy with yourselves.

That's nice. I suppose if anyone could do it, it'd be Bioware, but even I'm skeptical of how it'd do.

Now shut up and get back to work making things I like to spend money on.

This a thousand times over. For once, I don't agree with BioWare.

Oh god, this better not mean that DA2 and ME3 will use Kinect in some fashion, because that would be complete bullshit. BioWare, just make your amazing games and stfu.

There is probably a million things you could do with Kinect imagine being able to use your hand to activate extra powers or something you don't have to always thing motions controls as jumping, waving, and Tiger Woods fist pumping. No lets all just jump on the band wagon about motion controls being evil and end of gaming. Imagine in Dragon Age or Morrowind you characters face mimicking your face based on your reaction to what is on the screen. Just because motions controls are kind of lame and gimicky now doesn't mean they always will be.

There's a section in Mass Effect 2 where you can pull the right trigger to shove a mercenary out of a very high window, and then make a quip as he plummets to the ground far, far below. But how much more immersive would it be if rather than pushing a button to defenestrate the unlucky hired gun, it was triggered by a shove from the player?
That sounds pretty cool, actually. I'd be sad if there weren't more choices for gestures than there are now, though.

I JUST finished ME2, I was soooo lookig forward to ME3.... Please BioWare dont make s to the spastic immersion breaking flails. Serios what was wrong with teh trogger system? I wont be "pushing" a merc out teh window, Ill be making a spastic Jerk hoping nobody can see me and watching Shepard make teh push anyway? Short of having sme pysical feedback its the same response except the input makes me look like a tool? Its like that stupid kid giggling at the tiger licking the screen at E3's Kinnect Bs, Real life doenst feel like that!?

Its the same thing I never understood about why your DS wants you to shout at it to get past certain sections. There goes me bringing it on a train out the fucking window? The inputs need to be simple and quick like say a controller, making me shout, jump, run , etc just reminds me im not in an epic universe shooting bad guys, im in a room looking at tv while everybody around thinks I look like a tool.

Imagine having to swing your freaking sword everytime in DA:O, or take cover in ME.. How long before it gets very very tedious. It wont be cool, because you cant get physical feedback and wont be able to for a very long time. Why would I want to make jerky hand movements to activate powers, thats what the bumpers are for? Motion controls as they stand (by which I mean this upcoming hardware gen) are simply not fit to integrate with current genres. By all means Im sure they can make some games specifically for them, but trying to shoehorn them into the games we all love wont work.

Without physical feedback from your actions theres simply too much disconnect from your on screen avatar and your real self to maintain a solid immersion. For all intents and purposes pushing a button that throws a guy out the window and making a motion that throws a guy out the window makes not difference because your body wont experience the force of the push. the on screen actions will play out the same anyway. As for motion tracking your face's reactions even if it was possible what will that achieve? NPC's doing their best to "guess" my mood based on Kinnect's inputs, because when they get it wrong there goes even more immersion, or wha if my mood doesnt match what it should on screen.?

This is the first time I've read a statement from someone at Bioware and thought, "well that was really stupid."

I'll overlook it this one time. Don't let it happen again...
