Not saying being gay is bad (heathens!) but I don't think the shoudl just add someone to throw a nod to the gay community (or is it homosexual community, you can never tell with those guys)I think it's a cop out for not having it in the first two. Stand with what you started.
Its already confirmed that they are going to have a gay romances, as long as they don't retcon preexisting character it should be a non issue for you.
Even if it is done with preexisting characters, it wouldn't necessarily be a retcon. It would just mean that it hadn't come up before. It's entirely possible that they have been gay or bisexual the whole time, but you just haven't had a discussion about it. None of that stuff is really relevant to any of the conversations you had in ME1 or ME2.
Sure but I can see how someone would complain about it, especially If they are suddenly attracted to Shepard without resign, and that especially If they've already been a romance option for the opposite gender. I trust the writers to handle it well either way.
Oh, I'm sure many people will complain about it! But really, even if they were previously an LI for the opposite gender, it would just make them bisexual. Maybe they just hadn't realized it at the time, or it just hadn't been mentioned. It makes sense if you think of each playthrough as its own world, existing on its own terms. The only story that is canon to you is yours, if that makes sense. So if you're playing as a male, female Shep doesn't exist to have an LI, and vice versa.
I also will put my trust in the writers. Bioware hasn't let me down yet. Out of all of their games, there has only been one character (Thane) that I have flat-out hated, so maybe this one will be okay. I still think his design is pretty ugly, but his personality might make up for it.

It will also be interesting to see if he's going to be one of the homosexual love interests in Mass Effect 3
Well, just look at that pose he's striking and you've got your answer right there. :p

I'm thinking Vega is going to be a species-ist. He's going to be card carrying "anti-alien", "human superiority" type.

Earth and humanity are under attack. He's gonna have some sort of emotional journey, as a latino human, to outdo the aliens in everyway and live up to his ideology.

That's my two cents.

To be honest, I think the series has been sort of missing that good, solid human meathead. I like being able to play that angle that humanity is the universe's last best chance for survival and that humans are superior to all other alien races.

Bring on the enemies. Humanity will survive, but you can get rid of the other lesser species. They need a culling anyway.

He certainly would look at home in the clip of the Wonder Woman pilot. Oh poor Chris. Why did it have to be you who had to block the door? He was the smallest guy there!

But in all honesty I hope you can order this guy to get a haircut.

THAT is what the genre (and Mass Effect) was missing, a generic super soldier meathead.
I mean it's not like we already have Kaidan or Jacob to fill the exact same role.

Is this really needed? We have five squad members from the original ME, and ten additional ones from ME2. Even if some of them cannot return due to storyline reasons (specifically Wrex), and even if the DLC characters Kasumi and Zaeed are discounted, that leaves us with a good dozen potential squad members. Do we really need a new one, especially such an unimaginative model? At least give us something new, like a Hanar (Blasto!), or an Elcor...

//Edit: so yeah, he is probably the Quarter Back/Wide Reciever Bioware wanted to put in. Guess who will be kept out of all my missions except for the loyalty one (if those are in ME3), just like Jacob in ME2?
First, there are 12 from ME 2, Zaeed and Kasumi are completely cannonical and at least Zaeed is already confirmed to apear in Mass Effect 3. Second, I´m really getting sick of this stupid stereotype. Looking at someone´s picture isn´t enough to determine if he is a stupid meathead. He might turn out to be an interesting character if you give him a fucking chance before starting to judge him like only complete idiots do.
For me there´s no diference between someone that says that this guy is a meathead by looking for one out-of-context picture than those stupid jerks that think that someone is gay if they don´t correnspond to their racist, old-fashioned concepts of a man.

You, good sir, should be ashamed of yourself, and so should everyone that publishes this kind of crap.
And even if your right and this guy ends up to be a complete meathead, it will still be a bad action, not thanks to the ending, but to the means that the ending itself was achieved, in this case, talking about someone with nothing but a image of him.

And you're basing your belief on his generic nature on what? His looks?

Glad to see that most humans haven't change much... >.>

I think he would fit in as a spy for TIM and Cerberus, especially if they include a story to make him bond with players first. Big points from me if they do.

Well I really feel a strong urge to go on about how much I don't like this guy already but yeh, I also really hated Jack the first time I saw her and she ended up being one of my favourite ME2 squadmates.

If one character who initially only appears to be interested in punching and killing can turn out to have a past, then I'm sure another one can. It perhaps is a little disappointing to be presented with another plain human when there is a whole galaxy out there to pick a wierd an wonderful new character from. I don't think we should hold out for getting an Elcor, Volus or Hanar squadmate (unless they're setting whole levels underwater) but another alien might be nice.

Regardless of how this guy turns out personality/background-wise, I still really don't like his appearance right now.

Just remember, unlike-able characters can still be good characters from a narrative point a view.
Just because people don't like him, doesn't mean he can't be well written or have a solid personality. Even if it's slightly orange and hangs out at the beach waaaay too much.
True. Ashley, Miranda, I'm glaring at you too. Though I'm not glaring at Miranda that hard because at least she has a distinct character arc. Personally, I don't think the guy looks that bad until someone mentioned Jersey Shore. Then it sunk in. But that's probably because of the hair. If they just changed the hair, he probably wouldn't look so bad.

Awww. I liked Jacob. Not enough to do a romance with him, and he certainly is more boring that the other squadmembers, but I found no reason to hate the guy.

And another character is lost to the Uncanny Valley. Sheesh, that guy just does not look right.

Here's the thing. All we have is a name and a picture of what he looks like. No opinions based on that limited info matter. Even when we learn more about him, whether you like him or hate him doesn't matter. Everyone's not supposed to be there to fit your little definition of "cool" or "badass" or whatever stupid catchphrase you want to slap on. Whatever background he has, you have to accept him, just like Jacob. And if you can't, and this is some sort of deal breaker of your opinion of the game as a whole, then I don't want to hear it.

I find the Humans are the least interesting characters in Mass Effect, He could be a well written character for all I care but in the end if he jumps over a wall, then slowly turns around to jump over again that gets incapacitated he'll have to wait till the end of the battle to be woken up. Also I bet he's a biotic.

My issue isn't really with his form (although his form is pretty ugly) but rather with his function. I understand that they want to explain stuff to new players, but I'm not a new player and I don't want to waste a lot of time explaining stuff that I already know. That time could be used for more actual story. Isn't playing catch-up what that "interactive comic" is for?
So why should Bioware care if recaping bothers you? You're clearly not they're using it for. What is actually worse, recapping the story for fans to hear again so that newcomers can be caught up (there are probably going to be those that are going to get this game and not the first two), or not doing it to satisfy you and leaving the newcomers to scrtatch their head and wonder what the hell is going on?

I liked Jacob too. Not enough for a romance, but he was a nice guy and a good friend to my Shep. I think he got better the more you talked to him - he starts out kind of standoffish, but as the game goes on, he warms up a lot and there are even manly hugs/fist bumps involved. Not my favorite, but pretty good anyway.

That is true. All I'm trying to say is that from my perspective, as a non-newcomer, it might get really old having to recap everything, and since they already used the interactive comic device, something like that could be used instead, and use the in-game recapping time for something else. That said, I'm still willing to trust the writers, so maybe it won't be that bad.

I kind of like the idea of having a meathead tough space marine who seems to have fell off Halo showing up on ME and being like 'durr durr what politics, let's shoot some aliens bro'. I do hope this is the case.

I personally would have preferred a new alien crew member over another human- you know this being sci fi and all, lets explore that. That said there may be more new characters too so lets see.

This new guy could be good as a narrative mechanism- someone who is brand new to the story and the Normandy who can look at Shepard's actions with fresh eyes and a different perspective. By now the other characters from the first 2 games are really too involved with Shepard to really question him, they've been through too much.

Also Shepard is still in the alliances bad books due to his Cerebus work right? So it might be interesting to see how this (presumably alliance) straight soldier will interact with the rest of Normandy.

Here's hoping he's like Jayne from Firefly. Though even then that probably wouldn't be enough to break up my Shepard Garrus Tali power trio (BFFs! ;) )
