BioWare Wants Fan Input on Sexy Anime-Style Mass Effect Statue

Racist stereotypes aside, I don't like it. I'm not one for anime anyways. The breasts are too big for my tastes and her face... I won't go there.

I supposed if you lived in country predominately surrounded by petite women, then are exposed to foreign women with a rather more ample buxom, your tastes may... alter.

I personally prefer my women petite. If it's more than a handful, it's overkill.

Aside from that truly horrifying bit, I don't mind the rest of the model. So they're planning to release a sexed-up statuette of a video game character for the purposes of fan-service, so fucking what? If you don't like it, just don't buy it.

I'm stuck between two opinions, on the one hand it's a pretty well made sculpture with some nice detailing on stuff like her gun and clothes. But on the other hand, holy tits Batman! I'm aware that that's part of the point but my god those things are WAY too big.
Also as pointed out, it just doesn't look like her, and the face is kind of unsettling if you look at it too long.

Well i hate the face, it has no character whatsoever. Liara's face was young and fresh and always seemed to me friendly and open. This goes for a generic 'sexy to anime fans' look. My opinion? utter crap.

Bioware commissioned a goofy bishoujo style statue and got exactly what they wanted. Sure, it doesn't look like "our" Liara, but it wasn't really supposed to in the first place. The whole point was to see what other artists would do with the concept.

Have people seen half the drawings that Penny Arcade puts out as promotional art? Heck, in the latest one (for Uncharted) the main character looks like he's been taking bodybuilding lessons from Marcus Fenix, and yet I fail to see complaints materializing. I have the sinking feeling that most of the outrage against the Liara statue is just typical anti-Japanese outrage (how dare you get WEABOO all over my favorite franchise Bioware!?!?!?).

Your Penny Arcade comparison is completely off base. PA is comedy, and supposed to be stupid. Bioware is supposed to understand that their characters have such strong appeal because they're not just about sex. When they put out something like this statue, it undermines their artistic credibility by emphasizing sex in a previously non sexualized character whose primary appeal had been personality and intellect.

In short: fuck no. Kill it with fire.

Seriously, Liara's sex-appeal came from the fact that she was kind of nerdy (she had freckles or Asari equivalent), she was really unsocial, and whatnot.

She's kind of like Tali accept it's not cars and a diabetic comma's worth of adorable sweetness and a Eastern-European accent.

If there were going to do something like this they really should have gone with Miranda instead. Liara just doesn't look right with giant tits. In fact the only way I can tell its supposed to be her is the outfit.

Other than the boobs and the face it looks good to be honest - the details all look good. I think if they could fix those two things I might actually be tempted to get it.
