Yup you wonder why i don't play all that many new games, well here it is. It piss the designers off that i won't use the features that cost me extra on top of the game i just paid $60 for. What gall i have, what right as a consumer do i have to not be milked like a cow who's teats are filled with gold bullion. After all i need to help them with there six figure bonus they get paid if there game appeals to the largest slice of the audience, even if im not included and laughed at because i want a good story in my game. For shame that i don't pay for the special pass and xbox live gold just so i can play that part of the game. I would rather play Madden sarcasticball 2012 then pay them another penny after i already bought the game. And they wonder why there games get pirated. Oh i know there over priced and the design teams a bunch of wankers.

It's the same deal with Diablo 3 for me, as well as BF3 when it came out: sometimes I just want to play single player. Not to say I hate multiplayer; far from it. I just don't want to play multiplayer all the time. The only thing I could honestly say I hate is how MP seems to get shoehorned into every game I see these days.

I played the crap out of World at War and Modern Warfare 2. I think I was halfway through my fourth prestige or something like that when I finally got fed up with the COD multiplayer. It's addicting, but there's too many niggling frustrations in the whole experience.

Sometimes, bullshit happens. You'll get hit from behind, or you run straight into something you ought to have known better... but it transcends my personal bullshit tolerance when it becomes a game mechanic. The unlocking guns are a petty annoyance only because you usually get something decent at lower levels, but it's frustrating as hell realizing that other players have a concrete advantage from unlocking silencers/heartbeat sensors/super perks, etc. These little advantages start adding up into big ones.

I think what finally broke it for me was eating multiple predator missiles in a row. At least in a shooter like Halo your team has to work to capitalize on an early advantage (position, weapon control, etc.). In COD it's "hurr durr instakill missile" that the other player has no recourse against.

If I want to play multiplayer anything, I play Starcraft now. That can guarantee me a level playing field every time. Your games do not, sir.

I find a small measure of joy in my heart that makes me feel five pounds the lighter knowing that by my inaction I am causing irritation to this man. If it so happens that my disapproval of multiplayer pisses him off then all the better, although I can understand him disliking the fact of people hating something he put a lot of work into, but he's an adult he can live with disappointment. He wants everyone to play multiplayer and people in hell want ice water but neither wish shall be granted.

That.

I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER GAMES. I just want to spend time by myself, playing a game by myself, having fun by myself, with no one else around to ruin the experience.

Simple.

I just wish companies would listne to me on this one. THere is a reason Skyrim sold so well, so people like me, can play it by myself.

Why is this a worthy story for the News Room?

Better yet, why are people actually getting upset over some guy's passing comment that essentially comes down to "I wish more people played the multiplayer I designed"?

I am not against multiplayer in games, even shooters, but Call of Duty multiplayer just doesn't interest me at all.
The only Call of Duty multiplayer I played and enjoyed was World at War because it had a co-op campaign with arcade style scoring, which I enjoyed.
The only war shooter I play in multiplayer and actually enjoy though is Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Oh god. Why did no one censor his statement? This is going to cause all kinds of shit with that annoying little subset of people who get all pissy over this kind of stuff. God, why do people have to get so upset when a developer or industry person expresses an opinion and go into huge tirades about how wrong they are and how bad their company is? I don't even need to read the responses to start getting a headache.

Basically this> I don't know why people take this as an insult. He basically saying what everyone else is thinking. Why would anyone just play HIS game for single player. Pretty sure, people are too much in the habit of mindlessly hating anything COD.

You know what...fine. The game is multiplayer-centric, and it is VERY easy to see the, "We offer so much content in the multiplayer and I think people who just play single player are missing out" quote that is hideing just beneath the surface here. Yeah, the quotes not good, but thats because he doesn't sound like a PR type, and forcing multiplayer is a sore subject these days, between Spec Ops calling there multiplayer mode a Cancerous growth, to EA talking about the death of single player games, which would be disastrous for the medium. But give this guy some slack: He is not saying that his SP is bad, or that other gam,es should move away from SP. He is just saying that not playing the MP portion is missing out on a lot of content. And you know what? Hes not wrong. Don't burn him at the stake for not wording his idea perfectly.
I might be inclined to agree with this. He's not exactly abolishing the single player mode, but trying to encourage people to play MP in the game that he designed, fair enough. This guy's comment has been taken out of context.

Last but not least are Custom Games, which Vahn admits ?have haunted me for two years, but today, it?s all good.? The reason for the change? ?Every variation of every game mode is supported in custom games.? Players can also build their own custom classes, add bots, modify competitive rules, and restrict content. ?You think that Claymores are the devil?? poses Vahn. ?You can restrict it.? If you feel Pick 10 is too flexible, you make your players work within a smaller area of Pick 5 ? the lowest is Pick 3 if you feel particularly cruel, and the highest is Pick-17 if you feel especially generous. ?This mode lets you define the fun in your own terms,? says Vahn. ?You get to put on your game designer hat. If someone thinks they can do a better job than us, I?m fine with it."
See, he isn't so bad at all. That's a change of heart from the usual CoD hostility to custom games.

There's no reason to be outraged by this sort of innocuous statement. I'm rather disappointed that people reacted angrily without really reading into the original source. But still, attention-grabbing headlines, soundbites, etc, fuel confirmation bias.

Ditto.

I mean, would Silent Hill 2, Shadow of the Colossus, or Dear Esther been improved (even the slightest) by the inclusion of multiplayer?

awww. someone doesnt like it when people play SP.
here is a newsflash: some people dont want to play MP all the time. so grow up and shut up. i like to play some SP as long it has a good story and COD doesnt really have it.
