So what if I were to use imagery like this...

which is related to the kaisers rather then the Nazis, is that going to get me banned? because this looks more awsome then any image Hitler could come up with.
The iron cross maybe.
It was given as a medal to german soldiers.
The rest not so much i guess

Wow they sure are generous with the usernames said:
I'd just like to point out that the facts are wrong in this article. The players receive a ban from the emblem editor, not from xbox live.

Josh Olin said:
?We have tools internally at the studio that track and monitor all reports,? [Josh Olin] says. ?The more times a player is reported (for any number of reasons), the faster they rise to the top of our list. Think of it like a leaderboard. If a person has 50 reports to his name, we?re obviously going to take a look. If a person has two reports, he?s probably just pissed some guy off and a guy reported him in hopes he?ll get banned.? So it really is a matter of multiple people objecting; it?s a community standard. If it doesn?t bug a bunch of people, then it?s not going to be an issue ? and they?re not sweating the sore losers.
If your emblem is determined to be offensive, ?we have the ability to ban you from using the emblem editor for a time period we deem appropriate,? Josh says. ?The feature literally will be functionless for you in-game until your ban expires.? They could also choose to change it for you. He does say complete multiplayer banning is possible but is not the first course of action ? that would be reserved for repeat offenders.
?As of now, first offense is banned from using the emblems editor for two weeks,? he says. ?From there, one month. We haven?t even been out for a month yet, so we aren?t sure how long we?ll run that out before just banning you from using the feature permanently.?
But if you still feel this system infringes on your gaming rights, think of it like?an amusement park. Treyarch runs the place and you paid your money to get in, can go on any rides you want as many times as you want. But if you start negatively affecting the experience of other people by shouting at other guests or spraypainting the rides, well, it?s Treyarch?s park, and they?re going to keep it clean for as many people as possible, and they?re going to listen to a large number of complaints. It?s your game, but it?s also their game, and it?s everyone?s experience. That makes a lot of sense to me. If I went around shouting racial epithets at Disneyland, they?d kick me out too.

Thank you for clearing this up. While people are playing politics and history of the past here, it's information like this that gets overlooked.

Stupid Nazis. Why did you have to ruin the swastika for everyone else?
They didn't. The people that refuse to see it as anything other than a Nazi symbol ruin it for everyone else.
what are they thinking? every time you see a swastika the Nazi's win?

whats inherently wrong with 8 line segments in an arrangement?
I'm afraid I don't follow. Is it my wording?

So a horse having his dick cut off with a chainsaw is ok but a swastika is banned.

Power tripping bastards.
Yes. Because A horse chopping off its own dick isn't exactly offensive to an entire race of people.

Use your head.
The next time a dictator decides to go on a genocidal spree, he should make his official symbol the number 1. That way, our future generations can all refuse to study their arithmetic because the number 1 offends them.

Also your avatar of a baby smoking would probably offend all of California. It's a good thing they all can't see it right now or you would be facing subpoenas in a holding cell.
Well, I doubt that would ever catch on because the Number one is practically universal and so detrimental to our numbering system, I'm sure people would use there heads or at least find a different way to use the number 1.

Also, I just don't take to kindly with people trying to defend the swastika.

And my kid is old enough to make his own choices, I'd appreciate it if you respected that.

Couldn't they fight this on the grounds of cultural discrimination?

In any case, we're never going to learn from history if we keep trying to censor it for fear of offending someone. And if we don't learn from history we're doomed to repeat it. I'm sure no one wants to see a repeat of those events of WWII that were so horrible that we have to ban a cultural symbol because of it, do we?

Has anyone read Fahrenheit 451 with a futuristic society about how society begins to censor out small parts of history as it offends minorities, and soon the future is ignorant of the past and full of morons who do not read as all books are banned for their "offensive deep thinking?"

Yeah, I think the guy who began banning people for this apparently didn't.

I usually would be upset that they are starting to censor what you can and cant make but since my last game included an entire team with swasticas yelling heil hitler during the game and sending messages filled with only that repeated over and over i am somewhat in agreement

I have seen so many swastikas, and I don't even play all that often. Given the volume of them, it's clear the majority of people are creating them thinking they're being funny or clever. As such, ban 'em all.
It's a war game... There's even parts of the game that cover WW2 with Nazis in it! What's wrong with role-playing as the enemy?

By this logic the following symbols MUST also be banned to remain unbiased:

-The American flag
-The Russian flag or anything resembling the hammer and sickle (Stalin killed a shit load of people, is the only reason this logo not banned because they were our 'allies'?)
-The Military Star
-SS Symbol

Fucking hypocrisy I say!

A similar incident happened here in Australia at a music gathering we call 'The Big Day Out'. All Australian flags were banned because some Aussies were telling people to kiss the flag and then got into a fight if they refused. So they banned the Australian flag. Yes you read that right... they didn't ban FLAGS just the Australian one. Because apparently the only people who carry flags that get violent are Australians... fucking assholes.

Oh... let's lighten this up with some humour:

Heehee humor. And yeah, I don't believe the swastika deserves defense, but I do believe that the right to use whatever emblem you want should be defended. But then again I'm sure there's something in the EULA that disallows stuff like that.

If I were to ever make a video game I would put in the EULA that while you are playing my game, any right bestowed upon you by the constitution is null and void, and that you are legally allowing us to steal your identity.

That'll show em.

Also I don't think detrimental means what you think it means.

To be fair, the Nazis only committed one of the most heinous crimes in recorded human history.
That's probably going to be its default/commonly known context from now until doomsday.

The ban isn't unreasonable at all, and most people who use it will be doing so to troll.
Unless you think most 12-24 year olds actually understand the history and nature of the symbol prior to WW2.
Yeah...not fucking likely.
If you read Naruto it is explained.

It's no one sided argument, but I'm with Toulouse. Being contrary, is not an opinion.

A multiplayer segment of a game where 14 years old scream bullshit is not the place to learn about history and Nazism. Just letting people use this symbol in a game without all the historical meaning attached to it is way more likely to lead them to forget what the symbol means than banning it as a multiplayer emblem because those little shits are too insensible to understand the weight it has.

They don't use the swastika in an effort to reappropriate its use in modern society, they do it because "lol holocost".

You know, that's actually the best-thought-out argument against the display of swastikas I think I've ever read. He's kind of right about this, you guys: Xbox Live simply and intrinsically doesn't allow for the depth of communication necessary to dodge the Nazi bullet.
And everyone using the arguments about dick emblems - Dicks didn't kill millions of people.
...
Not to say the Nazis weren't dicks. They were.
To be more accurate, images of the human penis, while they might not be the greatest thing to stumble across online, aren't associated with the torture and murder of innocent human beings. In fact, in the whole of symbolism, I'd say the Nazi swastika is the only emblem that is associated therewith.
