I hate to point this out, but will it even matter at all? Seriously, it's Samurai Warriors 3. Is anyone looking forward to this?
I've been looking forward to this since I first found out about it...so for about six months now. Samurai Warriors 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and in my opinion outshines everything in the Musou series except maybe Warriors Orochi.
I preferred SW2 to Warriors Orochi, but maybe I'm just weird.
I think part of the reason I'm undecided is that Warriors Orochi just happens to fix my every complaint about the Dynasty Warriors games...and since I'd just finished playing DW5:XL before starting it, those were pretty fresh in my mind. Most of those fixes, naturally, it took directly from the Samurai Warriors games (especially special abilities making characters more distinct, and tying moveset to experience rather than items). Also, it makes Liu Bei not suck horribly.

SW2 also had the advantage of multiple character stories, mild historical value, and extra play modes. I've heard that last thing is fixed in Warriors Orochi 2, but I haven't played that yet.

Ah you silly Yanks and your completely pointless censoring.
Fun fact: North American releases of Japanese eroge actually remove the censoring that's in the original.
That's why it says 'completely pointless censoring'. I still can't figure out any reason at all as to why they did it.

As for eroge, well, that's slightly different. They're adult games marketed to adults. I don't have any idea why they have to put the censoring in Japan. It makes absolutely no sense to partly censor something like that, while leaving in all the sounds and such is perfectly ok. It's just odd.

Contrary to their reputation, the Japanese are kinda prudish in a lot of ways. That censorship is actually by law, and it applies to doujinshi and straight-up porn, as well. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe we US weirdos just don't have a problem with all of a woman's body.

Also, fun fact: think I mentioned it in <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.148564-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Little-My-Maid>one of my reviews, but the Japanese censor some of the sounds, too. Specifically, the words "<url=http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/3263/432111o0.jpg>chinchin" and "<url=http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/7307/432111o1.jpg>manko," two words you really wouldn't think would be censored. I don't know if it applies to porn in general or just games, but every time I hear a voiceover (or see it written in Japanese, when they always leave out a syllable), it's a tad immersion-breaking.

Yeah the US version definitely looks better.

The "regular" version looks like they're trying to milk the sexiness of the character. The difference is slight but just enough to matter.

Notice the amazing difference? Was it really all that necessary to censor what amounts to maybe a few millimeters of painted cleavage on a clothed woman?

Is the U.S. really in a situation where Nintendo (publisher of Samurai Warriors 3 in the U.S. and Europe) felt it'd get heat for leaving a line on a cover that indicated a woman has lady parts? Maybe I'm overreacting, but it makes me a little bit sick to see the incredibly silly situation that the U.S. is in compared to the rest of the world as indicated by this cover. I'm dumbfounded, but glad to know that in some strange corner of the country a child doesn't have to be exposed to the horrors of a female samurai's mammaries.

You have to understand what we americans refer to as the FCC. Or... Pissants, as you brits, aussies, and other people might call them.

When it comes to decapitating a guy, watching all his blood flow out, then slicing off another guy's writing hand, our movies/video games/television shows (YES. EVEN FUCKING TV.) will do that nonstop.

Show one fucking nipple, the entire economy breaks.

Or at least that's what the FCC believes.

So any way in which they can reduce cleavage shown, they will do. Granted, they don't want to take that away entirely, no sir. That will reduce the amount of copies they'll sell because there is a VERY thin line between using sexualization to sell something and crossing over into what they deem to be 'inappropriate.'

Keep the children at bay, but bring on the sweaty, horny teens. (You know, most gamers.)

Hollywood doesn't seem to care. If they could, they would depict every single movie poster with the lead female star's massive bare-chested breasts. Nipples and all. (If the actress says "No" to nudity, they'll just give her another million or ten to do it, OR they'll cut her salary in half and hire a tit-stand-in to provide the jubblies. Yes, hollywood ACTUALLY does that. Does the tit-stand-in get half the star's check? No... They'll get maybe a couple thousand dollars. Of course, the economy sucks so any woman who needs a paycheck might just flash those nips for two grand.)

So, was it neccessary? Probably. To keep the parents who should never have had children quiet, and the teenagers begging their mothers or fathers for the new game.

Sorry, is that too cynical?

Then puppies.
That is all.

They look kinda..... baggy in the first one.
Like she never wears a bra. Which she probably never does,
but i mean in the realistic sense.

CLEEEEEEEAAAAAVAAAAAAAAGE!!!

Okay, immature commentary aside, I think that censorship was unnecessary, even if the end result looks better in my opinion. It was a silly act, but hey... no harm done, right?

I actually think the bottom one looks better.
I agree. It's not that it's that noticeable a difference, but it's honestly not attractive when her boobs look like they're falling out of her top. The bottom isn't less slutty, it just looks more like that's the way the outfit is supposed to sit on her body.

Have you ever watched Family Guy? They had an episode that argued that point quite well... wait... was that sarcasm? It's hard to get sarcasm from text...

ANYWAYS since I've been ninja'd about 50 times already in saying that I didn't notice the change for about a solid minute of comparing the two pictures, I have to say that such a minor change really doesn't affect how I feel one way or another; I don't really prefer either of them, cuz the second looks more real and the first one... well... moving on...

And just to be fair, lots of japanese games actually have censorship removed in their american counterparts- you ever play Yggdra Union for GBA? Case. In. Point.

Have to agree. The fixed one looks better. At least the boobs look slightly more realistic in proportion, and really, no real samurai would charge into battle with such loose garb, especially around the bosom. But hey, I guess if you can call the US out for being a 'prude', can we at least call you out for being a perv? I mean, as long as we're slinging around generalizations for no reason and all. Was that centimeter or so really worth showing? Was it really worth making a post about?

I actually think the North American one looks better. Perkier. The European boobs look saggy and just remind me of this chick -
Although apparently some guys find that attractive. What should I know? I like men.

Looks like she's wearing more effective undergarments. But only since you pointed it out. I had to stare for about ten seconds before I noticed anything. And then ten more seconds, just to be sure. And then ten more, just for the hell of it.

Can't wait to play this game, regardless.
Which means that you spent half a minute staring at covered up painted boobs. :D

Like everyone says, it's not by much at all. So to me, it doesn't matter. Plus I'm European so I get the big cleavage version (if I get the game that is (you just lost the game)).

What they should've done instead was make 'em bigger! That'll teach censors.

I can understand why the did it, the game is rated T for teen after all.

What would happen if some innocent 16 year old boy caught a glimpse that cleavage on the cover of his violent hack 'n' slash game?

He'd be corrupted and wouldn't be able to slaughter 1000 dudes because his innocent mind would be obsessing over that new and mysterious mammary valley he saw.

I think Nintendo think Wii owners are somehow better and more pure than the rest of us...
