Two words for you, Korea: You suck.
Just this.

Really, I thought there were costumed to hotties wearing bizarre sexy clothes?

O WAIT that's Japan.

Two words for you, Korea: You suck.
Again.
JAPAN.
Superior to Korea.

And I'm not just talking about how they solved the whole Chinese subservience problem in Imperial times...

"Dammit, dammit, DAMMIT. Where are the pants to this thing? Did I leave them at the dry cleaner's? Okay, think. Hmm. I have my bikini... sort of goes with the outfit... EUREKA!"

As for all the comments here... where are you people getting the idea that this was some sort of cultural rule in South Korea? It was a rule set by the ORGANIZERS OF THE EXPOSITION. It is entirely their right to set a dress code and enforce it. I don't see a single word in the article detailing that the Korean government had anything to do with it. And Malygris, really, it's bad form for you to be presenting that view (with the "Korea: You suck" comment) in the article.

EDIT: Okay, after following another link, I can see that the Korea Culture and Content Agency had a say in creating this guide. Soooooo... yeah, OMG I WUZ WRONG, sort of. Still, I can't say the rules were terribly Puritanical, in comparison to some other government guidelines I've read about. And the guide even allows for "adults only" exhibitions, provided that it's behind a wall and staff members are around to prevent immature eyes from being SCARRED FOR LIFE and whatnot. Really, I can't say it's all so restrictive as some are claiming it is.

Kim Jong Jil must not have had any luck with the ladies. SO NOW NOBODY ELSE WILL EITHER! D:<
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this happened in South Korea, where Kim Jong Il can't really do anything about anything.

Bust out an atlas. Or even a Wikipedia.
It was just a poorly researched joke, and someone already pointed it out to me earlier. Thanks for your concern. ^^;

Maybe if they were 8 years old they'd be fine with it, wait that's Taiwan.

OT: If costumes in question are in the pic it's fine, I mean honestly if it fits in a M game or even a T game in some cases why is it inappropriate?

I think the costumes highlight a reason people think games are sexist: stupid exploitative costumes. The one on the left isn't bad, it's just that she has clothes/armor everywhere but her chest (read: cleavage). It's the one on the right that's bad: who goes around the world, even a fantasy one, looking like they forgot to put on pants?
Amen. You can be sexy with more clothing on; less makes you look trampy, and besides, if you really were a warrior fighting in your bikini, you'd be dead XD
Which pisses me off about most macho games out there. I wanna see a unattractive but interesting woman who happens to have the required skills and outfits to surpass the challenges of the game in question.

Having a nice ass hardly fits the criteria for surviving what your average title usually demands of the characters.

Hell, that woman using a steel Thong of Shielding [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThongOfShielding] in the middle of a heavy rain in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within was just far too much for me to bear. The absurdity of that vision stopped me from playing the game altogether.

The sight of a real woman pretending to be confortable in a steel "clothing" like that in a real way would just kill all the sexy that a woman can possess and turn it into a freak show.

Especially when the thing started rusting...

Well, actually that would be kinda funny, in an evil japanese-prank-show sort of way.

And prostitutes get paid to have sex with people, that does not mean they enjoy it.
Excuse me, can I have people's attention? Someone seems to have lost a strawman!
If people want to objectify women, then I guess I cannot stop them. But I sure as candy will not endorse it and I think it would be better if we as a community stopped doing so.
First of all, what happens if women want to objectify themselves? Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, Katie Price make FAR more money than we ever could purely by doing that.
Secondly, these women are professional models. Wearing clothes like that is their job in the same way that I have to work long hours selling tat.
Thirdly, there are also men who do this.
Fourthly, you're talking about a dissonant culture. Korea can't really be judged by our standards, because they're really NOT our standards.

Seriously, this is a case of someone banning an attention-getting scheme for being an attention-getting scheme that broke the rules. That's all. Any call of it being for or against women, gaming or anything else is missing the point. Flesh means success BECAUSE we're all so hung up on it.

While we have hormones, we'll have "totty" - whatever the flavour - and people get a good living to do it, with most of them actually enjoy doing it.

And a good number of the Escapists would be willing to bare a bit of flesh [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.74019,]. You think that when Robert Pattison, David Tennant or Nathan Fillion appear at conventions that people applaud their good acting? Or do they tend to trip over their tongues?

I'd hit the one on the right so hard.
I wouldn't seeing as her companion has two swords. ;)

OT; Oh God, not another frenzied nation of killjoys. We have enough of Germany, Austrailia, Venezuela and China to last a lifetime.
Ahe, i as a german gamer have to remind you. Germany - Problems with violence ( and that only if some politicians grab the theme ball, cause anyone else most likely has not that much problems with it. Despite the fact that there are always some stupid parents who, like on many other places also, don't watch out what there children are playing)

German and sexuality are just fine with each other.

I don't get it. Why is there suddenly a strict dress code at these things now? What prompted this nonsense? Can I get a little enlightenment here? And by the way, those outfits were no where near as "skimpy" as they could have been. But that's just my opinion and don't call me out on it, ok?

While I agree, could a case be made that dressing booth babes overly skimpy is degrading to women? It just seems to me that this would be the first argument to be made.
It's their option to dress like that. If there was a law that said "women have to work in their underwear!" then yeah, that totally would be degrading to women. If they want to do it... Isn't that their problem?

Personally I'm ok with it, but I seem to be some kind of freak to whom things like sex and anatomy are perfectly natural and legitimate things.

Edit: Besides, who are we kidding here... They're booth babes. The entire reason they're hired is to be eye candy. If that isn't degrading to them wearing skimpy clothes certainly won't be the deal breaker.
That's more what I was asking about. Is the very idea of having girls dress like their skimpy video game counterparts to attract attention to certain booths degrading?

I'm with you on the sex and anatomy being natural. So long as you are within the boundaries of the law, spread it however you would like.

The Japanese didn't solve the Chinese subservience thing, they created it!
Besides, Korea makes way better movies than Japan.

Just give me one good reason why they shouldn't go butt naked if they want to?
Because some people may not want to see other people nude. It does not matter if they are self conscious or not. Besides, if people want to be nude they can be in their own homes, not where a lot of people can see them.

its like saying there is too much nudity in the Playboy its just part of it!
No, Playboy is a pornographic modeling magazine/website. This is a videogame convention that a lot of people probably attended "on the clock" for their respective (ha) companies. I can't think of two things that could be more different from each other. Well, I can, but for the sake of my argument I can't.
what I meant was that skimpy clothing is art of the booth babes

......WHYYYYYYYYYYY!?! ;.; Seriously, even at the smaller conventions you need to have one girl showing a lot of flesh ;.;
