I think the costumes highlight a reason people think games are sexist: stupid exploitative costumes.
Definitely. That doesn't truly hurt the hypocritical sense of morals in society, Korean or otherwise. Aside from a few extreme exceptions.

But it does turn the image of videogames into something to not be taken seriously.

So, that banning seems to me like a typical pseudo-moral stance, but the existence of booth babes in game expos is still very much a sad ridiculous sign of the industry immaturity.

Dont hate me but, im glad.
Some of the outfits that you can see people wear at conventions are totally inappropriate.
And some reasonable dress codes cant hurt.
Who exactly is it hurting? These people are paid to wear these costumes, and it's up to them.
And prostitutes get paid to have sex with people, that does not mean they enjoy it.

If people want to objectify women, then I guess I cannot stop them. But I sure as candy will not endorse it and I think it would be better if we as a community stopped doing so.

I guess the organizers have never been to Otakon. You don't get much skimpier than the costumes there.

Seems most of the posters need some porn. The convention's guidelines still had a lot of ability to show skin. It was mostly just pointing out the models should be wearing more then bra and panties.

They shouldn't go butt naked to this event for the same reason I shouldn't go butt naked to Best Buy. I'll get kicked out. Why? Because I entered their store, thus expressing my wish to use(and in a sense am already using) their facilities. At this point I am agreeing to adhere to their rules. If their rules are that I must be clothed then so be it. The exact same thing happened to this girls(more relating to the modeling agency that provided the costumes though) there were rules, they didn't follow them, they got kicked out. Know if they feel like continuing to dress that way when they leave the convention just for fun, no one will stop them.

To be honest with you, I hate pants. I really hate pants. They are a deterrent to all things good in the world. So when I am in my own house, I don't ware them. However, when I am agreeing to go to someone else's home, where their rule is that I must wear pants, I do. It's about adhering to the rules set fourth by others when I am using their things, just as I would ask them to adhere to my rules when they are using my things.
You're misunderstanding, nobody is saying what they did is illegal. Legally they can mandate everyone at the con wear pants on their heads or be kicked out. Perfectly fine. Don't like? Don't attend.

Point was, it's retarded. And it is... Entirely.

Edit: Quote failure! Fixed.

The one on the left isn't bad, it's just that she has clothes/armor everywhere but her chest (read: cleavage). It's the one on the right that's bad: who goes around the world, even a fantasy one, looking like they forgot to put on pants?
Amen. You can be sexy with more clothing on; less makes you look trampy, and besides, if you really were a warrior fighting in your bikini, you'd be dead XD

While I agree, could a case be made that dressing booth babes overly skimpy is degrading to women? It just seems to me that this would be the first argument to be made.

It's their option to dress like that. If there was a law that said "women have to work in their underwear!" then yeah, that totally would be degrading to women. If they want to do it... Isn't that their problem?

Personally I'm ok with it, but I seem to be some kind of freak to whom things like sex and anatomy are perfectly natural and legitimate things.

Edit: Besides, who are we kidding here... They're booth babes. The entire reason they're hired is to be eye candy. If that isn't degrading to them wearing skimpy clothes certainly won't be the deal breaker.

They had a dress code, they enforced it. The end.

As for puritan vs heathen thing people seem to be going on about: it is all subjective. That said, my subjective point of view is that the restrictions don't seem unreasonable to me; you can still have mini-skirts and skimpy tops, they just can't expose X amount of skin. It isn't like they said everyone has to be in habits or something.

Also, half (or more)-naked women at conventions like this, and the negative reactions to the models being thrown out, don't do anything to help mitigate gamer stereotypes.

Finally, sexy naked women at a booth won't make a game suck less. If you can't get exposure just by having a good game, then it probably isn't a good game. You can slap a $6,000.00 suit on a dung heap, and it will still smell just as bad.
Pretty much all this, I don't understand why everyone seem's to be making such a big deal out of it in the first place.

I'm not quite sure where Venezuela and China fit in, though.
Venezuela's, well, Venezuela. And Hugo Chavez does so little but shouts so much. But that's enough about that.

Ever tried being a gamer in China? Or, more specifically, ever tried getting your WoW on in China?

its like saying there is too much nudity in the Playboy its just part of it!
No, Playboy is a pornographic modeling magazine/website. This is a videogame convention that a lot of people probably attended "on the clock" for their respective (ha) companies. I can't think of two things that could be more different from each other. Well, I can, but for the sake of my argument I can't.
