But, is it really that great? I have the Ps3 version (go on and laugh 360 fanboys, you know you want to) and at first I thought there was no microphone capability. It isn't mentioned anywhere in the game, or in the manual.
I researched several sites looking for any mention of mic use in Borderlands and lo and behold I discovered a world of problems.
I've since read numerous stories on forums about the horrible problems playing online co-operative 4 player in Borderlands and trying to use the mic capability. It's choppy, laggy, cuts out, sometimes doesn't register.... let's face it's just downright fucking awful.
I think I may have devised a quick fix that at least allows us to play though.
So I was playing online last night with my friend Anthony, and I had to be kind of quiet as people were sleeping. I was upstairs in my room, and I found I almost had to yell in order for him to hear me.
Worried I might wake people up, I removed my headpiece and held the microphone receiver directly to my mouth in hopes it might pickup the sound easier.
This seemed to partly fix the problem with the poor sound level sensitivity, as from then on, I would just put my mic back on, and hold it up close to my mouth.
The choppiness was apparently still there, and it was lagging a little, but at least my friend was able to hear me without me being loud enough to wake everyone.
Has anyone else tried this? It seemed to lessen the lag for some reason and the cutouts were less on his end according to him.
It's a pain in the arse to constantly remove your mic and put it back on. As I said it's only a quick fix, but I'd like to hear feedback from anyone who's come to the same conclusion as I, or has experimented with different techniques that might help the online community for Borderlands. It's a shame, the rest of the game is extremely solid.
What say you, Escapists?
-Edit- I've forgotten to mention that this problems appears to be exclusive to the Playstation 3 version. So 360 owners who report having no problem... I know!
