Call of Duty to get WoW-Like Subscriptions?

I knew paid dlc would bring the shit storm I always knew it, sure it started off good adding a bunch more content to an already great game. Then people got greedy started selling small things like skin packs for 5$ and map packs for 5-10$ and people bought into it saying hey 5$ for some extra crap why not. Now look what could happen soon we could have to pay to play anything online then it's back to single player only once again.

The key to this is to send all devs a big screw you and not buy stupid dlc that adds anything less than an expansion pack of content. But that won't happen so I suppose we can start saying farewell to our beloved free online play.

Well say goodbye to COD.

Say hello to COD Online.

Choose which race you play. Do you side with the Terrorists and Axis, fighting for Allah or White Supremacy? Do you join the Allied and UN to fight for a USE (United States of Earth) and global obesity? The choice is yours.

Now for only 15 dollars a month can you fight in a huge world filled with all your friends grinding for xp, Leechers and best of all YOU CAN'T finish the game.

Buy extra weapons and outfits for your soldier, decide the size of his boobs and customize his appearance before you take on Vladimir, the Russian Terrorist Demon-Dragon, or try to bring down the capitalist God-King Borack Abama.

All this and more for only 14,99 a month (all the cool content costs extra and no modding allowed). Why pay for what used to be free you ask? Why we at IW asked ourselves the same question and we came up with one answer.

Because we say so... now pay up Biatch.

If this is COD's future, I hope Acti goes bankrupt and saves COD's dignity.

Aww, damnit.
This sucks.
If they do this, a lot of people will actually buy it.
Soon enough we'll be paying subscriptions for most of our games.
Hopefully that won't happen.
If it does happen, then I'm done with multiplayer gaming.

Every concole game before has been free to play online (save MMO's and the XBOX Live surcharge). What could they possibly do that's so outstandingly incredible that we should pay an extra monthly charge for it?

Aah, confirmation for my doubts about the whole IWNet issue. Turns out I was right on the money. The only surprise was how soon the confirmation came.

Well wow got subscriptions to pay for big servers (theoretically) yet Guild Wars managed to survive with no sunscriptions...
I think that has a lot to do with the way the games are set up - Guild Wars only has more than 5 players on a single map in towns, which may help with the server load/sizes. That's pure conjecture of course, but it'd be my guess.
Actually, at best you can have faction wars that are 12v12v12 and the usual amount of people you have in a PvE group is 8. The way they have servers set up is pretty genius in how the game automatically scales the amount of usable servers based on how many players there are per zone.

It's only good business for them to try and eke out dollars from the gaming community...
I question this, though. If you get a reputation of being an asshole that only does that, it certainly also affects sales.

If that happens, to put it bluntly, Activison can go and fuck themselves under a bridge. Why would anyone want to start paying just to play Call of duty? It's damn good but not THAT good. Thank god for EA and the Battlefield franchise.

i heard about this a few days ago, and if that happens, IW, Activision and Treyarch can go drown in Styx while i dry-hump Bad Company 2.
amen to that!
I think its a lot easy for me to just realize there is still b-company, a game that will always rely on dedi servers, and the community for modding.
B-company 2 cannot fail, it's almost impossible.
YEAH, I THOUGHT SIMILAR ABOUT MW2, BUT AFTER OCT. 20, MY ONLINE GAMING PERSPECTIVE HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY CHANGED

This honestly just seems like the natural extension of paying for DLC, which I've always been against (especially in a case like Dragon Age, where a game I've just paid full price for comes pre-packaged with missing content I have to purchase). I guess we shouldn't panic yet -- the guy says they'll be experimenting, so for all we know, it could be a totally optional service.

But still, man. As much as I hate PC games, this is one thing I never have to put up with when I play Team Fortress 2. God bless Valve.

If they have a single fee for a collection of games (like you pay a reasonable fee for the two Modern Warfares and World at War, plus whatever gets released next) then I might pay it.

Why is it a crime to start charging? Like it was mentioned earlier, no where in the comment did it say that you were going to be paying for basic service. Yes, overall I disagree with this, but whatever as long as the damn game is FUN AND GOOD why not try to make a little more off it?

They wont do this. At least i hope they don't do this. If they do this, I'm seriously not going to buy any more Call of Duty games. I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't be dumb enough to do this. It sounds like they'll make a lot of money, but most people just aren't going to pay monthly for it, even if it is the greatest multiplayer experience ever.

Well every once in a while when the planets align properly and I'm having a rare bout of conscience I will feel bad about my zealot-like dedication to "thrifty" gaming and think "Self, people worked hard on this project and deserve to be paid." But without fail I read something like this and all those bad feelings just melt away.

Thats fucking bs, no way im paying monthly to play the same 3 maps of an online shooter over and over again. Wow is an immense world that gets constant updates and expansions where you can sink thousands of hours playing it. CoD is not.

So, having realised that their MW2 ploy only pissed off PC gamers, they're on a concentrated offensive against everyone else.
