If they do make COD online into a subscription based service, then people will just move back to COD5. The COD5 community is still quite large and vibrant with plenty of servers still running, so why would I pay for what I can get for free?
I am not sure if COD5 is the same as MW2, but I guess it is. If it's not, then ignore what I say here :p

You see, when they release the next CoD where you have to pay for online, you cannot go back to MW2 and play that online. Why? Every server in that game is run by IW through IWNet. Which means they can cut of the online part of that game as soon as the new one hits the shelves. Of course, that would be the biggest dick move in the history of dick moves. Would Activision make that happen? Seeing how they have done so far, I'll say... hell yeah.
I have said it before, and I'll say it again. IW/Activision will not get money from me ever again. Bunch of wankers all of them.
No, COD5 is the game before MW2. MW2 is COD6. Since COD5 is server based(as in you can actually set up your own server) they have no control over it. I and most people I know will stick with COD5 or COD4 until they bring back dedicated server support. If they don't then we still have ARMA 2 and TF2.

I want to know who is talking to, because no gamer alive is demanding to have to pay to play their games online. It works for MMO's, MMO's have a LOT of content, and is constantly updated.
Not to mention that it must cost a truckload to keep the server's running.

I made myself a pact many years ago: I will never play a game that requires more than one payment to play (unless it's at an arcade). For example, I refuse to play WoW.

I just think that paying to play the game after you already bought it is ridiculous.

Ever heard of piss right off?

Most people already have to pay to get on live, I don't want to then pay to get to play the other half of the game I already paid for, which it said on the box came with multiplayer supported and said nothing about having to pay to play on the service I've paid for.

This is a very bad idea, if call of duty gets wow-like subscription then they will lose many many customers.
Are you sure? Everyone said that they would lose customers because they fucked PC over, yet they broke records.

I think people will still couch up money for them and it will become so popular that more games does it.

To take a quote from Yahtzee,
"It seems he grasped the wrong end of entirely the wrong stick."
Is he f*cking insane? If hes does this he'll be shooting himself in the foot. Nobody wants to pay to play games online, this company makes enough from Wow to last them forever, and yet they find ANOTHER way to wring us gamers' wallets clean. Just because people ask for more things in a game, does NOT mean we want to pay for it!

I am confused, are they proposing to "offer" the same thing they have now, but the only difference being a monthly fee?

Yeah, THAT will go over well.

Yes, IW/Acti-Blizzard hurt the PC gamers but they'd never hurt their loyal console gamers, would they?

Guess again.

And yes, there will be thousands of kids with credit cards BEGGING to pay up for new decals, maps etc.

Things that would have been free under dedicated servers. Welcome to Kotick's dreams.

I see. Well, that is good at least. I have never seen the appeal of these games in the first place, although the whole Killstreak thing looks kinda neat.
While Team Fortress 2 is always fun. Thank Bob for Valve!

Ah, I figured something like this would happen. Thanks to the hoard of sheep-like customers, especially my fellow UK citizens, Activison have proved that they can rape you're wallet constantly. Joy.

He's serious? My god that's stupid.
Agreed. They remove the dedicated servers, and then decide that people should have to pay for multiplayer? Ahehe. Not going to happen.

Indeed. The fall of the PC edition of MW2 was just the first step in the darkspawn...wait, sorry, got mixed up... in the Activison plan for world take over.

Lets be fair here, who didn't?

They'll lose a fair few customers if they do this, but then again, the amount they would get from the kiddies mooching off their parents would stay.

I may have to stop boycotting boycotts if this happens. Seriously Activision? I don't think that you understand: gamers are not just walking sacks of money. Just because an dip in the economy has cause an increase in profits does not mean you can treat us like shit.
