This doesn't look great, I hope Captain America doesn't bring down The Avengers, despite being their some-time leader he's always been the weakest of the characters.

That's bullshit that Mr. Rubino got put on probation for 3 days while the person doing the America bashing (on a story about a Captain AMERICA movie) gets 1 day. This place is so anti-America it's pathetic. Fuck it, it's not doing any good complaining about it. So before I get my ban or probation for this, please allow me to say that since America is so bad, I urge every American to stop donating money to the "poor" Japs and other countries that are hit by disasters to show how little Americans really mean to the world.

Sorry, but that suit just looks cheesy to me.

That trailer made me want to go see it though! Looking foreward to see where the the whole "Avenger Initiative" thing ends up. Things could get pretty damned epic!

Of course it didn't start in 1941. We couldn't RESCUE the UK if it wasn't first in danger....>.>
After leaving them to stand alone against the might of the Nazi Reich for the first half of the war and still hold the line.
Yes because the British didn't buy any oil or weapons from the US. And we didn't secretly send them any supplies.

You're not helping our image here. He probably had previous offences, while Mr. Amerika was a first time one.

OT: Good looking, if cheesy. The suit... I don't know, it just seems silly.

DO YOU THINK THIS LETTER ON MY CHEST STANDS FOR AMERICA!

I know I should leave off because of the animosity in this thread. But...

That was the entire point of the character. It was meant to be ironic and not in the way hipsters use today, the perfect solider, practically an aryan demi-god fighting the very regime that idealises him. The comic was actually created before the USA entered the war and was accused by members of the media as being war-mongering. The comic industry back then had a large amount of Jewish creators (even more so than today), Jack Kirby one of Captain America's creators, his parents were Austrian Jewish immigrants.

It also why Superman, was drawn to look Jewish (black curly hair) and had a Moses-esque origin.
"Send Hitler to hell". Weren't the Soviets that actually got to Hitler's bunker?

Pah, can't have factual history get in the way of Ole Cap now can we?
You'd probably pissed be off to know in the Marvel universe, Hitler was burnt to death by the original Human Torch. But it's fiction, that's the point, it's never meant to be a historically accurate recount of events.

I think that's the idea, draw attention to the shield rather than the rest of the body which while armoured is still quite vulnerable. Then there's the whole point of Captain America being very visible on the battlefield, to inspire troops and attract fire to him away from them. On a greater level that was really the point of The Invaders, the super hero team that he was a member. They were the tip of the spear, they'd draw the bulk of the enemies attention, allowing normal soldiers to perform their assaults more safely.

Why are people getting bent out of shape over the historically inaccurate nature of this movie?

Where was the anger when film-makers made movies about a small squad of Jews terrorizing Nazis, or a group of men sent to rescue the last surviving son of a family?

This not meant to be a history lesson any more than 300 is a lesson on Ancient Greece.

Back to the movie:

I think that's kind of the point. The shield would be visible from a distance, and once the Cap' builds up a reputation, it will an inspire an "ahhh....shit" from the Nazi's and a morale boost for any Allies. Secondly, any enemy soldiers who notice the shield but don't know that it's bullet proof will be shooting at the guy who's the hardest to kill.

My one minor complaint: That we have to wait until AFTER the 4th of July to see it. It can't just be me that thinks that this could have been the perfect 4th of July Weekend movie.
Couldn't agree more.

Much like how banners and standards were used by armies in days of old, and how drummers and pipers would go with the troops. Morale is vital to any military action, and he was not only a super soldier, but a morale booster to friendlies, while being a discourager to the foes.

Well, it does look good, we'll see I guess.

I did see that Avengers cartoon they had, and I loved the flashbacks to WWII. Maybe.

Also, Hugo Weaving, and Tommy Lee Jones? This had better be DAMN GOOD.

Wow. That is just the ultimate hotness. The capt is hands down my favorite marvel hero. Glad to see that they brought him back just as badass as before.

Out of all the major comic book movies coming out this year, Captain America looks the most promising, followed by X-Men: First Class.

I'm not sure if you noticed the America part in the title. Probably a good guess that it'll be from an American point of view.
Hey, I'm American and I still know that it started in 1939. Granted, I'm one of the few in my history class that knows this, but they're retarded. According to them Pearl Harbor was invaded by the Japanese...
Even though WWII started for America in 1941, we were planning for it way ahead of time. I mean FDR and Winston Churchill got together to try and create an incident to bring American backing to Britain (can't remember what the meeting was called, but I think it was somewhere in Greenland), so they sent a destroyer to U-boat infested waters and it got shot at. Wasn't enough... We were building a fleet of newer Fletcher class Destroyers, etc. etc. Point of the matter is this, we knew we were going to war. We knew ever since Britain and France realized that the Nazi Blitzkrieg was extremely effective and we might not be able to combat it if we didn't prepare.

I'm not gonna lie... I may have actually just soiled myself a little bit. This looks like it could quite possibly be the best movie yet in the Avengers series. The pre-treatment Chris Evans effects are a bit jarring, but still pretty cool.

That's a serious plus.
I know right? I was like "OMIGOSH AGENT SMITH and whoa was that Tommy Lee Jones?!" first

but Chris Evans/Steve Rogers/Captain America seems like a pretty cool guy
