I loved Avatar. IMO it was the best animated non-comedy show to air in the US since the 90s. But what I loved best was that it actually ENDED, unlike many other shows that keep pulling out episodes until they've completely lost all appeal.
If they must make a new one, this is probably the best way to go.

It's nice to see that the Avatar story is finally being told in a different way.

So what about the Last Airbender movie?

I'll let the Ozai answer that for me.

As a 16 year-old trying to move past cartoons I can only say "DAMN this close"
Why the hell are you trying to move past cartoons? Stupid little man.

On topic, dear God let this be good. Avatar is one of the best TV series of the last 10 years and in my opinion has better character arcs then pretty much any TV series you could mention. Also it has JK Simmons in it which mean its automatically unbelievebly awesome.

Is it fate that this trailer comes a day after I buy the third season?
Absolutely looking forward to this. Shows that western written animatio don't have to be childish morality stories.

Avatar and steampunk!?! This just got even more interesting :D
I'm also quite excited, but it's not Steampunk. As has been pointed out, you see a early 1900s-ish setting, with cars that are plainly running on internal combustion engines, making this Dieselpunk (which is just as cool imo).

Oh shit, this worries me.

They ended the original series so well, why are they making another? I hope to god they don't ruin the original's reputation.

Also, 70 years my ass, try 300. And if there's one thing that bugs me, let's say she's 15.

That means Aang had to have died within 55 years, meaning he died before even turning 70. And that SUCKS

Wait, wait, waitwaitwait.

The original show's time period was kinda like, I don't know, the 1600s. At BEST.[footnote]Except the Fire Nation, which had awesome steampunk tank things. But everyone else was quite primitive.[/footnote] Now, a mere 70 years later, we're all the way in the 1930s?

What? I mean, I know they're magic and whatnot, but even still...That's like, 300 years of progress in slightly less then 100 years.

Here's hoping well get flashbacks, like in the first series, explaining what happened to the original cast--and Zuko's mom. I know I'm not the only one bothered by that.
You aren't. Apparently they were going to make a short video of Zuko and his mom reuiniting, but decided not to do it.
Still, that part at least ended on a pretty sinister note. I'd like to see some backs of the flashing variety explaining what happened.

As you said in the little footer thing, the Firebenders had some steampunk tech. After Aang brought peace, you don't think they shared some of that?

I always kinda liked the first series, but it just seemed pretty bogged down in it's pandering to the teenage demographic.
Really? Where did you get that from? If anything I felt that it made little concessions for children. It addressed mature topics without really dumbing them down much, it treated teenagers and children as proper people.
I mean more in the behaviour of the characters themselves.

Eventhough it's very much a fantasy world, the characters just behaved somewhat too contemporary for its setting. And then there was that whole beach party episode.

But like I said, I still kinda like the show. I loved how the elemental bending powers were used in action scenes: You never really saw the same move twice, there was always an interesting new spin on how the powers were used in fights.

And if there's one episode of this show that I thought was really good, it was the one were they all go see that play based on Aang's journey so far. It was a nice little introspective take for what place in the story each character really held, and the relationships they had with eachother. I don't know if this show ever won an Emmy, but if it did I hope it was for this episode.
I watched that right after the Doraleous and Associates episode where the same thing happens. Mindfuck.

I don't know if this is quite "steampunk" or not, but yeah, Republic City does look a lot like New York. I wonder if the culmination of magical martial arts helped speed up civilization somehow... which makes me wonder why there would be "anti-benders", unless they're jealous.

Benders, manipulating the elements in a world that hates and fears them!

I hope it isn't another X-Men based spinoff.

If not it would at least be interesting if the bender minority were using their powers to terrorize the common people and they counterattacked with science, since guns can be used by everybody..

The first show was fantastic. I can only hope it won't go downhill from there. Apparently the recent movie was... less than impressive.

I don't know much or watch Avatar (it seems good though) but from the thumbnail of the Youtube video how the heck is everything so futuristic and expanded even though its only been past 70 years? Or do they already have a bit of tech. in Avatar?
in the oriignal series they had some very basic steamwork like tanks/ships which ran off it, so it doesnt seem that large a jump, especially in a world where the elements can be manpulated
Quite true, especially when you could see what all that inventor at the Norther Air Temple could make all on his own. Now that all the world's nations have been united, they can all pool their resources, economy, and greatest minds together to advance the growth of technology at phenomenal speeds.

You don't need to worry about #2 since, if I recall correctly, none of the major characters from the previous series are alive.
70 years is past and not even one of the original cast is still alive? Correct me if I'm wrong but they were all Teenagers right? At least ONE of them should still be alive and kicking (Besides Appa). Damn.

Still, the show looks decent. I'll probably watch it at least once.
That got me wondering as well. People can naturally live upwards of 100 years old (~110 for King Bumi) if they're physically fit, and I'll be damned to say none of the main cast weren't. I understand that Aang can't be around any more if there's a new Avatar, but the others would be in their 80's, and yet none of them lived that long?! They don't have to be the main characters in this new series, but to actually see that they're still kicking and influencing something would be interesting. Again, Bumi proved that just because they would be really old at the time, doesn't mean they still couldn't be badass.

To be honest it kind of really upsets me that Aang would have died so young, more so then the others. He was the Avatar. You would think that outside of war he would outlive most people.

(Not that 80+ is young, but you know what I mean)
