So let me get this straight, a game made by christian game developers about killing demons is fine, but when anyone else makes a game about killing demons it's considered glorifying Satan. I've seen people claim Doom is blasphemous when it's the exact same concept, you (the player) killing demons.

This double standard is so tragically (and ironically) hilarious.

I hate to spoil the fun but that second one is a joke, it's a good one but it's almost certainly a joke. The first looks to be real though, which is slightly worrying.
I sure as hell hope it's a joke or I will dump those morons into the same category as Westboro and pray that god personally smites every last one for being such self satisfied assholes.

You know, considering how often gamers rail against certain groups (including vocal Christian fundamentalist ones) for stereotyping gamers, I find it vastly amusing how many gamers in this thread are quick to stereotype Christians.

Anyway. That aside, pairing a message with a bad game does the message no good. Maybe if they, you know, actually hired a reputable game developer, and were more subtle about promoting the positive aspects of Christianity- you know, tolerance, service towards others, humility, universal love- then maybe they'd see a bit more success. But no, these days you have to shove the whole of your views down everyone's throat or you're just not doing your job right.

"Game are evil and from the Devil. It teaches children to kill people and worship Satan! All games should over through heavy censorship and the creators and studios should burn at the stake!

Now buy our games."

The contradictions and hypocrisy never fails to surprise me...and anger me.

Aye. I seem to be in the minority on this website of being a Christian and a Catholic at that (correct me if I'm wrong please) but believe me when I say that the idea of a Christian games publisher is rather ridiculous. It's a pointless venture. The devout Christians of the world are not going to be the biggest gamers (myself being an exception). Also, just think about how long those games would be on the shelves before being yanked off again due to pressure by extreme atheist groups. There's no winning here. Even though I consider myself to be a good Christian, I really don't want a preachy message in my face at the same time that I am trying to defeat my virtual enemies.

So long as it's clearly labelled so I don't accidental pick up the propaganda bullshit put out by the right wing wackos I have no problem with them gaining wider distribution.

Oh btw, I'm a Christian, I just think that we (Christians) should walk the walk before we start talking the talk.

well non-fiction has the crusades and spanish inquisition

I thought wallmart didnt like having alot of landfill material?
Isn't the Bible sold in the non-fiction section?
I seriously doubt it
Yea, all holy books/sacred texts always have their own little section.
If there wasn't a section for that, I would assume they would be forced to put it in the fiction section, as I can't really see how they could put it in nonfiction.

I guarantee that once this game reaches the mass market, there will almost immediately by a mod created for it allowing you to play as the anti-Christ against God.

Once that is done, many will buy the game just to play it with that mod, not because it will be any better as a game, but just so they can go completely against the creators ideology.

Then, the irony will set in, when Left Behind game's owners are rich men ("A rich man will pass into heaven like a camel will pass through the eye of a needle" - The Bible), but their game will have failed in its mission entirely.

Just remember when this happens- I absolutely called it.

Where do you find a Bible in a book store then? (partly serious question)

Ahh, more proof that the Christian religion is a business. I would quote the Rescue Me rant on that topic but I forgot it.

Interesting.
i hope they take notes on popular games for theirs.
I like the idea of Christian themed games but, people hear the word Christian Video Game and instantly hear the word Bibleman...(shudders)
Already books like Lord of the Rings and Narnia have brought christian themes into mainstream media very well.
Hopefully they can find a way to bring Christian themes into a fun game without having to completely mask them.

Basically, the "Left Behind" game has been around since 2006 and Wal*Mart has been involved before, it's good to see they are deciding to give the games another shot though despite the initial protests. Also I was a bit miffed over the whole thing about the "ban" on the game with our troops in The Middle East.

I'm a Christian, albeit not a deeply spiritual one. The big issue with Christian video gaming has by and large been that a substantial number of people in the US as Christians and widescale portrayal of a lot of the beliefs is found threatening to many minorities and political views. It largely being a matter of Christians losing their free speech rights, and while I do not agree with all Christian speakers, I believe "my own" people are just as entitled to the right to express themselves as anyone else I defend.

The thing with "Left Behind" is that it's a Christian based post-apocolyptic setting, based on a fairly liberal interpetation of Christian spirituality. It's similar on a lot of levels to Steven King's "The Stand" but more overtly religious.

The plot being that "The Rapture" comes and tons of people who are deemed worthy are taken to Heaven. They simply disappear. This incidently includes young children. This mass disappearance creates a lot of havoc as planes go plummeting out of the sky as pilots disappear and things like that. Those "Left Behind" are left to try and find salvation by serving god.

The Anti-Christ "reveals" himself working for the UN and begins taking over the remnants of humanity, doing what he can (very subtly) to prevent people from realizing what is going on, destroy the remaining believers who know the truth and are trying to save people, and preparing for everyone's souls to be pulled down to Hell after the End Of Days completes.

This leads to those who find Christ becoming fairly militant and fighting against the forces of The Anti-Christ and getting fairly militant about "spreading the word" and destroying heathens and such that confuse the issue.

That's a simplistic version, but that's what it's about. All told it's pretty interesting, and something even non-Christians can get into, from their perspective it's no differant than reading a fantasy novel based on say Norse mythology involving Ragnarok.
Except for the fact that the Left Behind series is the most gut-wrenchingly atrocious [http://slacktivist.typepad.com/slacktivist/] work of fiction ever spewed onto bookshelves by so-called "authors" who are horrid theologists and horrid people. They make Twilight look like Shakespeare, they make Uwe Boll look like Citizen Kane, and they make Zynga look like Valve.

What about Eregon and Dan Brown? Surely they have some similar counterparts? :p

Sadly, even Christopher Paolini and Dan Brown are better writers than Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. And they are better human beings, as well (and from what I know of Paolini, that's a textbook example of "damning with faint praise").

Did anyone else say "Of SOURSE it was conducted in Texas?"

The title of this article reminds me of something I think Jeff Foxworth said; "God has a sence of humor. If you don;t believe me, just go to Walmart & look at people."

A game about Christianity? What would it have, slaughtering millions for having different beliefs? Forcing Jews to live in ghettos? Covering up the molestation of 200 deaf boys? I think I'll stick with games that DON'T promote the most evil cult of all time.
