I wonder when the next new tech will come out that everyone in the country will want banned so that video games will just be a distant memory in the eyes of people like this

I'd love it, would give us gamers some serious street cred.

Not that it would matter really. Wouldn't stop anyone from buying, just like those smoking labels are working amirite?

You show me the research and I'll let you have the label. Until then you mind as well be passing a bill to warn people that eating fish can turn you blue.

There should be laws against lying through your teeth like this in the face of both a lack of evidence to support your case for the law, but also the sheer fact that that exact same lack of evidence was made part of the argument in front of the Supreme Court that said that games were in fact not pornography. The general definition, not naked people.

At any rate its another California politician squandering government resources and money to pander to his voting base. Does anyone still wonder why California is bankrupt?

WARNING: STATEMENT HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN OR SUPPORTED BY SCIENTISTS

That's what it should follow up with after that warning, I mean it's only fair.

I say let him do that, and immediately after sue him for all hes worth, because false advertising is highly illegal.

Or you know, someone do the American thing and accidentally discharge a firearm in his direction, preferably more then once, we really don't want him coming back with a reinforced argument.

Me too. Rather appropriate, don't you think? The Japanese think that he is an idiot :p

And quite rightly so. I looked at the graph. The one year the rate of violence went up was the year sales went down. Id have to say that it would seem that these "violent video games" provide an outlet for violent behaviour, meaning it isn't performed as much in real life.

Maybe he slept late the day they were handing out causes, if it weren't for the snooze button he might have had TB or knife crime!

In other news, bicycles have been linked to me crashing through hedges. Seeing as I'm stupid beyond repair, I demand that everyone be warned upon bike purchase.

I'm not surprised or angered by these things anymore. Morality is subjective, he might not like our our games, that's fine. Personally, I'm not a fan of nepotism or the fraudulent use of donated funds.

Swings in roundabouts...

But...it hasn't. In fact, since gaming came into play, Violent criminal behavior has been steadily dropping. There is no link. You can't provide a warning for something that doesn't exist. (Well you can, but it would be extremely silly.)

We don't require warning labels on Alcohol. Despite a proven link between beer consumption and liver disease, not to mention that it kills your brain cells and lowers your ability to make wise decisions. The closest thing we have to a warning is the advertising agencies saying "Please drink responsibly."

What, he means those links that are constantly refuted as soon as they're "proven" by a bunch of bullshitting psychologists?

That's what the ESRB is for... and NO, violence in games is NOT linked to real life violent behavior.

Saw he was from California, wasn't surprised. Seriously, Cali, you have enough other problems to deal with without making up more.

There is one link between violent games and violent behaviour. It reads as follows:
Every time I hear another story about misinformed scapegoating from people like this, I want to kill something.

Andy Chalk said:
"The videogame industry has a responsibility to parents, families, and to consumers - to inform them of the potentially damaging content that is often found in their products," said Rep. Baca.
I would think that parents, families and consumers would have a responsibility to society to have more than a half a brain cell.

Seriously screw you California legislature.

Baca doesn't seem bothered by the fact that a substantial body of work has found no relationship between violent gaming and aggressive behavior, or that violent crime in the U.S. has actually declined over the past two decades despite the explosive growth of the videogame industry.
He's a congressman he's not going to let something trivial like facts or logic stand in his way.
