As for owning us, they already set a bar for themselves saying that this game will sell 5 Million, something that no Devil May Cry has ever done. Pissing off the fans, ignoring us, and breaking the fan base is no way to get that, wouldn't you agree? But they don't seem to realize that.
I highly doubt the fanbase would have been satisfied with whatever Ninja Theory would have done. Even if they kissed the ground they walked on they would still complain about losing the series to a western developer, I bet.
It's a lofty goal for them, 5 million copies. Will they succeed? Only time will tell.
They seem to be forgetting who their making this game for, us fans. You know the people who buy the games so they can keep there jobs? So why not listen to us? They should have known that completely changing a character like Dante into something who we would have no idea who the hell he was till we were told, would have a major backlash onto them. I agree with at the point there's a difference between "heeding fan advice" and "present thy ripe ass for the fans", but ignoring and insulting us? Is that really the way to go?
I thought the purpose of a reboot was to bring in
new fans, not contain the old ones? Evidently, Capcom decided that DMC needed a reboot, and this is the direction Ninja Theory is going with. Don't like it, tough noogies.
Considering that the current fans could only muster up 2.7 million copies [http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=Devil+May+Cry&publisher=&console=&genre=&minSales=0&results=50&sort=Total] of just the first game (with the recent DMC4 not even getting half the original sales), I am fairly certain that aiming for a more broader audience would be more reliable to bring in that 5 million copies than leaning on the schizophrenic support of the "fans".
In an interview the Development Team of Ninja Theory, Tameem Antoniades himself said that Capcom Japan is doing the gameplay AND the bosses. So what are Ninja Theory doing? It took them a year and a half to get authorized to use the design they had for Dante, which was pretty much just throw his face on it, what have they done?
So, if Ninja Theory isn't doing anything as you said, what's the problem? Ninja Theory should therefore not be taking any flak for this shit. Could you elaborate on what exactly you were saying here, link the original article perhaps? I don't really know what this means (being honest here).
We tried being civil with them and look what happens, they come out and say they don't care about the people they have to sell this game to. How could you applaud that? I'll say it again, they want 5 Million sells for this game, something no Devil May Cry has ever done. Now with this pissed off broken fan base, can you really see that happening?
Are you serious? Are you seriously saying that with a straight face? Just looking at the comments of the initial launch trailer [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhSYQt_gjVs] for the game shows that the fans were
never being civil about this from the get go, and they continue to be immature children in this ongoing schlemiel. They would never have responded in such a way if the "fans" didn't so fervently oppose the game from the very get go.
They're not selling this game to the "fans", this is why it's a reboot. It's to draw in new players, new fans, new audiences. It's working for me, at least, it's piqued my interest.
Have you ever thought, because the recent DMCs have been slowly declining in sales (as per my previous link), and because no DMC game has made it to the 5 million mark, that is the
reason they are doing this reboot?
I applaud them because they're not trying to pander to their fans and submitting to their every whim. They are coming under heavy fire from them, but they are sticking to their guns because they want to make their own game. I don't know if the game will be gold on a diamond stick or shit on a shit shovel, but if it is either of those options it would be because the game itself was good/bad on its own merits, not because it doesn't appease the fanbase over the slightly ruffled look Dante has.
