Man, 'Early 2011'? That sucks! I poured hours and hours into playing DE and DE:IW over and over again, I dunno if I can wait another 10 months for this, if it's even half as awesome in-game as the cinematics are.

I particularly liked the distinct Blade Runner vibe the trailer had.

I never played any Deus Ex game, but that trailer was magnificent. Give a raise to whoever put that together, because they might have just gained a customer. In fact, this has convinced me to go back and buy the first one. Congratulations, that's pretty cool.

While I have yet to play the original game myself, this does make me interested in trying it.

Also, I would wager that a lot of the fans of the original are probably asking themselves this question: "Is it going to be an RPG with FPS elements or an FPS with RPG elements?" The former would be more faithful to the original, while the latter would probably fare better in today's market (and on consoles).

Huh? Wasn't half that stuff taken from Ghost in the Shell?

You should feel honored! Besides most people have never seen that show. No one is gonna notice.

In all seriousness, the trailer looks very cool and if they are going to borrow material GITS is an excellent choice.

You've obviously never played the original Deus Ex. Similar themes, similar tech.

I get that. I love the original game. I just noticed that some stuff like the hacker being forced to shoot himself, gun arm, the thermoptic cammo + sexy ass shot reminded me of GITS allot more than the first game.

This looks too serious and angsty. I really don't remember Deus Ex being so Metal Gear Solid 4, hell it even mentions proxy soldiers and shadow governments, etc. JC Denton was stone cold, this guy looks like he has tons of emotional baggage I'm supposed to care about that's just ready to burst out at every conveniently contrived plot point.

"I never asked for this, baww bawww I'm now super powered."
Denton didn't cry about his implants, he manned up and took it.

I guess, really, this just looks too... well, Japanese. I can't say I'm too confident I'm going to like this.

Funny 'cause the same could be said about Metal gear Solid 2 & 4 where their plot lines are drenched in Oliver Stone style jizz.

There's a lot of borrowing from different sources in this medium, I guess.

Hopefully the game will be good, but the combat might not work that well with the previous iterations of the franchise -- something about cover systems ala Gears of War lends itself to be seen as a sponge for either trouble or odd happenings (remember Mass Effect 2?). Hopefully it will pull through, but who knows.

Great trailer - I hope the game lives up to it.

I've only recently started playing Deus Ex having bought it cheap through steam - so this could turn out quite nicely!

Wow...
Despite my misgivings after only being able to play Invisible War (which I hated), this trailer alone has convinced me to pick this game up.

Its not often that trailers convince me to do anything.

I also think its worth noting that the main character's voice left me expecting the protagonist to utter sentences involving either "Meanwhile City" or "Rorscach's Journal".
PLAY. THE. ORIGINAL.

Can I just say that I'm feeling copious amounts of ambivalence! Not for the reason anyone's stated. No, my reasons are pretty unique to just me. Hear me out. :)

The good aspect; Hoooly hell! Holy hell hooly holy h'ly HELL, Deus Ex 3, yes yes yes yes yes. XD *AHEM* ... I'm excited. :) I'm a giant fan of Cyberpunk as a setting, and very few movies or games really make good use of it. Deus Ex 1 was one of the better ones that didn't lean on the settings style as a cyberpunk setting, but had liberal applications of story plot and intrigue to go along with it. It's truly a marvel, a treat, and a privilege to see this game come to life.

The bad aspect; I mentioned above I'm a giant fan of Cyberpunk as a genre. Much of what I love about cyberpunk comes in bits and pieces over a multitude of movies, games, and books. But no one's gone through the trouble of tying these things together. Keep this thought in mind as you read on.

I'm a designer, a writer, and a comic book artist. I've been, for years, writing loose scripts, ideas, plots, characters, themes, concepts-- ALL in the hopes to one day release my magnum opus of a comic. A cyberpunk comic that took all these themes of cyberpunk that I loved, and make a story campain that utilized them in a way to excite joy in readers. Since, as far as I know, I would be the first to release media with all these themes together, I was hopeful that this could do really well-- and it still can. Nothing has really diminished that. Deus Ex 3 seems to-- judging by the trailer, tying these themes together to tell its cyberpunk story, and I am extremely jealous.

Don;t get me wrong. I'm happy to get to play another cyberpunk game. One that takes all my favorite themes of a cyberpunk story, and weaves them together. One we can all share a part of enjoying. Oh yes. I'm absolutely excited and over joyed by this! :D But at the same time, jealous that I was beaten to the punch. :)

I am so excited. Deus Ex has remained my favorite game for a decade. Nothing has even come close to the depth of story or fun game play. The sequel was frankly awful by comparison. But this looks like it got the right tone and the right style. I really hope we find out that Bob Page is starting his fortunes at some point, because there was no reference to him, just Seraphim Industries, which wasn't in the first game.

Cannot wait.

Anyone else catch the line at the end? "You'll never find him."

Bet I know who "him" is.
Bet you don't since this takes place 30 years before the original game so JC Denton hasn't been born yet and Gunther may just be graduating High School.

Also, pretty sure it they said "them" not "him."

So, should I get the original before delving any deeper. I know I should play it anyway, but is it necessary for my understanding or enjoyment of anything further in the series?

I don't think JC was stone cold, I think he just had really shitty delivery.

Luv, the Cyberpunk Genre goes beyond ghost in the shell. The anime was one of the better visual animated adaptions of the genre, but it's still just a child of the genre. There's a good chance that the people most interested in Dues Ex 3 will also be quite familure with Ghost in the Shell. :)
