god dammit! not everyone has a fucking 5000 pound computer at their disposal.

if they break the bonds of current PC games required specs, hardly anyone will be able to enjoy these graphics, and FPS.

Quick, someone find that "PC gamers happily dying..." image!
This is very interesting, We'll just have to wait and see which is better, scaling up from the weakest console, or down from the strongest. If this does show a marked improvement on porting games to different consoles, then this could become the norm for most games. Well done Battlefield.
I got you Leo, and you know what, I think I'm going to update it.....

EDIT: Go get em Duke!

While nice to hear it still just looks like a generic brown CoD ripoff. Come grab my attention when you're boasting something new for the industry rather than just playing the graphics card. (No pun intended there I swear!)

Wonder if anyone in the major gaming press is starting to realise that PC gaming isn't 'trailing behind', it's just making billions in the digital market?
The digital market, F2P and social games are huge on PCs. There's no denying that.

But games like COD and Medal of Honor sell overwhelmingly more copies on Xbox and PS3 than they do on PC. There's no denying that either, and that was my point.
COD not so much, since it hasn't been well received on PC since MW1. But games like MoH, Crysis 2 and Bad company 2 (major fps titles) all sell fine on PC (in between ps3 and 360 usually), and with digital distribution the profits from PC are easily over 50% of the total.

Remember, retail sales figures have been broken since steam arrived. Did you really think that a platform with 30 million users on one digital distribution mini-platform only sells ~15% of each game? Digital makes up for around 60-70% of PC sales (according to valve and the numbers correlate pretty well in bad company 2 with the retail figures and registered EA accounts of BC2), and not a single one is recorded via sales charts.

The fact that many exclusively console (since i have all 3 major platforms) owners believe the retail figures without a second thought is worrying in terms of the lack of analytical ability many seem to have :/

Ah well, that's the world. Show them a stat and they'll blindly believe it.

P.S. Did you know that not a single copy of bc2:vietnam was sold on any platform! If the figures that say PC doesn't sell very many copies are to be believed. Weird that. :D

There is still going to be complaining. The thing is, the very fact that there even is a console version means the PC Gamers are going to ***** and moan, except instead of blaming devs, they can just say that it was "dumbed down for the consoles". And they're still going to blame consoles for every little minor flaw the game has.

So... the PC gamers like to complain how making it for consoles ruins it for PC. Lets see if making it for PC ruins it for consoles this time.
Frankly - if there's any justice in the world - it should.

Well, I would have waited and bought this game cheaply in a Steam Sale or something had I not read this. However, if this is true, I'll probably pre-order from a source from which the devs will get the most cash.
Hopefully, this design ideal will start something of a trend!
Elitism is the belief or attitude that some individuals, who form an elite ? a select group of people with intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes ? are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight or those who view their own views as so. *from Wikipedia.
If you re-read your dictionary definition, you may realise that it actually doesn't apply in this situation.

PC gamers often have to put up with crappy ports of games developed for consoles. Fact: I have several examples in my own games library. Finally, a game comes along that has been developed specifically for the PC. I am a PC gamer. I applaud this decision on the part of the devs, and as such intend to back it with my purchase of the game.
And if, as a bi-product of this move (that will invariably make this game more enjoyable for me personally), the console experience as a whole is somehow impacted... well, you guys can't moan, because PC users have been putting up with it for years.

How - pray tell - is that Elitist?

Bull. Bad Company 2 made me lose faith in the Battlefield series.
It's not battlefield, it's bad company. A console game.

It's like losing faith in grand theft auto because you thought liberty city stories was a cut down game (which it was, but it was on the PSP! The PS2 port was a port!).

Thanks for catching up news section. Been talking about the comments he made about this here for sometime already:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.276574-Pushing-PC-envelope-helps-console-development-says-Battlefield-3-Producer

The message of this is that pushing the envelope on the PC help give the consoles experience according to DICE, so everybody wins. This is not a PC vs console thing. Nice to see this postulation, that I have argued repeatedly, being confirmed.

Because, um, SHUT UP! I bought a console so now i have to tell everyone that their views on it are wrong and it's more awesome than anything else ever! PC people are elitist because it's better and it's not FAIR! *going to happy place*

Seriously, anyone crying elitist really just wants a PC but can't get one and are trying to cover up that fact by QQing and being jealous. It's annoying and childish. If you want a PC, get a job and buy one. No point trying to (attempt to, since all it does it make you look like a moron) degrade those who have got a job and indeed got one.

Pro-tip: buy all platforms with games that interest you! For the love of god don't complain when another platform is better either.

If you want it to start a new trend, you'll want it to make Console Gameplay better than it usually is.

Simply because there's no denying that publishers make more money from the Console Front than they do from the PC Front -- I'll assume that's because more people own a Console than they do a Gaming PC, whether adequate or high-end. If they develop from a PC standpoint first, then scale it back for Consoles and Consoles benefit from it as a whole and from this sales increase... then everyone wins. PC Gamers don't have to deal with ports of any sort and Console Gamers have a better experience.

Why wish what the PC had to deal with on the Consoles? That just ruins it for everyone.

EDIT: I should probably add that what I said regarding the PC not having to deal with ports is more than likely the best case scenario. It's not guaranteed, but the chances of it happening are probably a lot higher if Consoles benefit from this.

I hope the gameplay is similar to BattleField 2. I loved getting in a squad and actually using teamwork to take the objectives, it worked hilariously well especially when the other team wasn't as organised as we were.
