DICE: Battlefield 3 Looks Better on Consoles Because We're Making it for PC

Hoping for a return to form from DICE, the fact that they are focusing on PC is heartening. Maybe we will see the return of large maps for the 64 player games, rather than squeezing too many players on a 32 player map. I hope against hope for a return of bots. I actually quite liked BF:BC2 but there is a reason people are still playing Battlefield 2 (and it isn't just Project Reality).

While nice to hear it still just looks like a generic brown CoD ripoff. Come grab my attention when you're boasting something new for the industry rather than just playing the graphics card. (No pun intended there I swear!)
You mean like how COD was a Battlefield ripoff? The Battlefield series has been around longer than COD. They did WWII first, they did Vietnam first, and then did modern warfare before the COD series (they also did future, which you just know that is coming up for COD). If anyone is doing the ripping off, it's the COD series. Of course COD eliminated vehicles and added killstreak perks for that true sense of "realism."

Okay so can someone relate to me the main difference between the Battlefield games, and the Bad company games? I came into it with BFBC2, which I greatly enjoy. How do the games differ from, say, a multiplayer standpoint?

I've only been saying this for years...

When a game is developed with the PC as the lead platform, the developer can shoe-horn a lot of little goodies and extras into all versions since the PC (generally) has fewer limitations.

In the end, everybody wins!

Every time I see something like this I feel compelled to say that COD was a spin-off of Medal of Honor. Nobody seems to remember Medal of Honor... I love that franchise.

Well, that is pretty tough since there are different Battlefield games. Yet the main difference is past Battlefield games were PC only. The maps were huge, and they supported 64 player matches. Battlefield 2 had jets, as with other Battlefield games that had era appropriate aircraft (something that will be back in BF3). Other Battlefield games also had prone (which of course led to the famous dolphin diving). Those are probably the major hitters, with the huge maps and 64 players being the major things. If you want more, go to any Battlefield forum. You will not have any trouble having hardcore Battlefield fans list the differences they didn't like. I have been playing Battlefield games since BF1942. BFBC2 certainly had a slightly difference feel, but I thought it has some nice additions and is very fun. For some reason some of the hardcore fans get ticked about it. Seems like wasted energy to me, but to each their own.

Well, if you want to that you could say Battlefield games go back to Refractor Games that made codename Eagle, which featured multiplayer modes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag in 1999. That was the precursor to the BF games. The COD link to the Medal of Honor series goes to Allied Assault, which was 2002 and their first true multiplayer game (unless you count their laser tag game). The other MoH games were console games, which only had split screen type multiplayer (plus they were not done by 2015 Inc. which is the link to Infinity Ward). Besides, the first MoH and CoD multiplayers (plus the laser tag one) were just Quake multiplayer games.

My thoughts exactly. It doesn't matter how good your graphics engine is. Everything in the footage I've seen is, content wise, the same old stuff we've seen in Battlefield. I mean, feel free to increase the immersion guys, but no matter what you do, Battlefield looks like Battlefield. This ain't no Crysis.

And to those ends - god the game looks boring so far. Follow soldiers through doors. Follow crouched soldiers then shoot a rocket. Shoot at some far-off targets. Incredibly well-rendered doors, soldiers, and targets, mind.

Does it look that good? I see no difference between this and CoD or Crysis or whatever.
Yea it does look pretty damn good. The lighting effects are noticeably improved over most other titles. The textures are very lifelike.
But is it noticeable enough to be noteworthy? I see the lighting effects, but not much else.

If they wanted to make the game realistic, why do cars explode?
Because gasoline tends to ignite near flame or sparks.
Pfft. Dropping a match directly into a car's fuel tank does nothing but start a fire. You CANNOT cause an explosion by shooting a car, dropping a grenade near a car, flipping a car, or any other form of damage.

TV isn't real :O

Pretty basic stuff.
Because explosions are cool and it is a game.

It's perfectly possible the cars had IEDs in them or something. But it could well just be hollywood logic.

It's going to be an inferior version, sure.

However, I don't care. My PC can't run this, won't be able to run this any time soon and I don't really care. I can live with 24 people per map.

This looks to be a gorgeous, thematic, fucking awesome project.

Learn your lessons from BC2, DICE, I beg you.

I just hope they have lan and not some stupid DMR (permanent internet connection required) to play system because if it has no lan and a silly DMR it might wreck it.

Well, I would never get too excited about the first person storyline/actions in Battlefield games. Most of the Battlefield games were very weak stories (or actual war stories) where you simply played like the multiplayer but vs. bots. Bad Company is the only one with an actual story with a normal first person mode, and both of them were pretty weak. Battlefield is about multiplayer, and I am sure they will do that well.

I'm not arguing that a car couldn't explode or that the car didn't have an explosive in it. I'm arguing against the notion made by another user that fire/spark + fuel + car = explosion. Which simply isn't true.

Never said they weren't cool. I've gotten a 'fuck yeah!' laugh many times from pegging a grenade over a roof and accidentally blowing up a car and several people around it in CoD.
Where does it say Battlefield 3 is meant to be realistic, anyway? Did you see that earthquake at the end? I think it's more of a "fuck yeah!" moment filled game than a dramatic, realistic storyline type game.
