F*ck no, I go around wearing a shirt with a quantum physics joke, the only facet of geekdom I have yet to embrace is dungeons and dragons, and that would probably change the moment I meet someone who plays it.

The only time I try to hide something geeky is my notebook of game development ideas and important notes that I carry around (I'm hoping to pursue a career in game programming/design), but that's mostly due to me not liking people reading my ideas (like how you might get embarrassed showing someone a short story you wrote).

i don't actively hide my geekiness, but in general society so many NORPs have absolutely no idea what i'm on about so i dont "Geek out" unless i know that i am with people who will both understand and appreciate it.

I thought of this because I made some joke to my friend about Half-Life at soccer practice a few days ago, and he had a hissy fit because he didn't want the soccer team to know he knew shit like that. Of course, I on the other hand don't give a shit and in fact would like people to know what they're getting in to. That's probably part of why I play large-scale Magic: The Gathering games in public spaces. But I ramble. My question is, do any of you ever stop yourself from doing or saying things in regular conversation so that you won't be labeled as a geek?
I enjoy roleplaying and some geekier games, so yeah. That kind of stuff I try to hide. I wouldn't go out of my way to hide it though, I don't think.

No I'm not hiding my geekiness, in fact I'm the guy that harbors all the useless knowledge in the group.

Well if someone asks me about it then I will tell them the truth, but I never wear anything geeky or use weird words when talking to people who don't game. So no-one can tell just from my appearance.

I crack subtle jokes that some people laugh at. If anyone looks like they got it but were embarassed they did then I go all out and make really obvious gaming jokes, then explain them to everyone around who didn't get it, so everyone knows that person is a geek who's shy about it.

My friends don't try hide stuff like that around other people anymore.

Quantum physics joke? This is relevant to my interests!
Is it the one with Schrödinger and the speed limit?

OT: Hell no! I wear shirts with math jokes, IT jokes, physics jokes and Daleks (in a country that has no idea what "a Doctor Who" is).
I would probably be king of the local geeks, if there were any real ones.

Well I have lots of interests and hobbies so most of the time I am talking about something else anyways. But besides being geeky with all my geek friends, if I be geeky around girls and stuff they actually find it pritty cute :3 Just the other day I had to explain to someone I met at a party why Back to the Future is the best film ever :p

ummm... The only thing I hide is me being a WoW player. Though, if someone brings it up, i'll gladly sit and have a good conversation about it. Besides that, when I'm around friends of friends, I don't advertise it, but I'm not afraid to say that "the cake is a lie" if the opportunity arises.

Of course, I've had an entire discussion about Pokemon on facebook going back and forth between statuses/pages and I'm not ashamed of it.

Utterly dependent on the social situation I find myself in, I would be lying if I said that I never hid my geeky inclinations. For example when training for my sport (rowing) which I hope to be taking to an international level soon I don't tend to crack out the old WoW jokes and it's not like at the gym after having just done a 170kg squat I'll turn to the guy who was spotting and me say "The squat bar is a lie!". If someone else says something I might laugh and nod but when I'm training I am training, not being a geek.

However when I am relaxing with my friends or in other social situations I don't to hide it that much though I will say that I am slightly ashamed of the amount of time I have spent playing WoW, it is depressing and scary in equal measure.

Schrödinger yes, but not that one, it has "Schrödinger's cat is dead" on the front and "Schrödinger's cat is not dead" on the back, it leads to many explanations.
