Forgive me for this but I have to ask...

What would it actually take to offend some of you? Do you just shrug and feel nothing over everything? What is your 'line'? What does it take to make you feel ill and grossed out?

I'd really like to know because I find it, ever so slightly, disturbing that only a real handful of us guys had a strong negative reaction to the hive.

me I'm not sure the definition says to cause displeasure so yeah it did offend me by that deffinition but when people usually say that somethings offense they're saying it's far more worse than that and should be banned but I will never say that about anything because it keeps humanity from progressing and becoming better when said things are made illegal under the grounds that it's offensive plus to strengthen that argument people can be offended by anything like women being equal to men or that people of different skin colors are equal

well they were being raped but oh well, they tried to play it off as a joke and failed plus they killed off two girls that they didn't have to kill but oh well it's entertainment I just watched the scene for the first time on youtube a few seconds ago I was not offended at all I was however sad you couldn't save them and thought Duke was a douche but there was nothing really wrong with the scene the only problem with the game is that it sucks

I really want to know where the whole they were getting raped is coming from. They were not getting raped (in the usual sense). That is a baseless assumption from someone who had either not played or not paid attention to the game.

The way the girls were impregnated is exactly the same as in the aliens films. Did so few people notice the alien "impregator bugs" that try to suck your face off and shoot "pregnator bombs" at duke.

Isn't it a better assumption to think this is the more likly cause of pregnation?

When I played through the game I didn't think about rape once...

I don't know about you,but I found the Alien Abortion minigame in the strip club more offending than the Hive level.

At least the ones who do the rape in the Hive are the evil aliens,and they did evil things because they are evil,but seeing how humans treated women by making this Alien Abortion game was worse if you think about it.

Bull. Fucking. Shit. It's not the joke itself that is offensive, it's a combination of the pre-conceived notions you personally have on the issue and the context of the words and/or imagery used. Case in point - google "George Carlin rape". The video I viewed was somewhat poor in quality so I won't post it here, but it proves the point. Besides, the level basically spoofed Aliens almost entirely - if you're offended by DN:F's parody, then please tell me you're equally, or more, offended by the source of the parody.

And speaking of being offended by games, I've got a question about this whole issue: Why is it that people are more easily offended by rape in an imaginary world...but not as much as the fucking real one? Doesn't it make more sense to anyone that if you were going to combat the issue of rape, you'd start in places that actually matter? Like, say, I dunno... *shrugs* the Catholic church? Or, perhaps, genital mutilations? Aren't these forms of rape, as well? Like Jewish circumcisions? Or the Muslim practices of removing a woman's clitoris? These are issues I'd go and tackle first before ever complaining about it in a game. See, the logic behind this is fairly simple: to my way of thinking, if I take the time and energy to address and solve the issue in real life...it probably won't show up in the fake one!

I'm not, in any way, defending real rape of any kind whatsoever. However, what I am saying is this: I realize that rape is a real thing, that it irrevocably changes those who experience it, and that the best way to solve this issue, IMO, is by focusing on where it happens and what the conditions were that allowed it to happen in the first place.

HERE HERE. Honestly they are. A rape joke can be funny if done properly, such as the Joke in Naked Gun with Leslie Nielsen. The big burly guy in the shower keeps trying to make him bend over, but in a comical and cartoony fashion Nielsen seems to have a quick fix and doesn't end up bending down, because of

A) Soap on a Rope
and
B) A giant chastity belt.

Just the implication of rape can be funny if done right and by god that scene was funny and I honestly don't remember anyone bitching about it.

People need to lighten up and go watch some Troma movies. The world's a dark, disgusting place. The fact that alien machine-penis rape exists to us as an idea is at once sickening and hilarious, is it not?

I thought the game was hilarious. I am 20, and a perfectly chilled out, sane, gentle guy. Real maturity comes from the wisdom that it's okay to be a child and to laugh at the naughty stuff and to not get lost in our adult world of political correctness.

You can look for sexist agendas or worry about what it will do for the image of gamers collectively or of our hobby all you like, but it's silly. Don't waste your energy, play what you enjoy and leave others to do the same.
Same with movies, right? Some people like period dramas, some people like low-budget "trash" cinema.
There is room for all of these things you know..

Dude dude dude. Not all of his stuff is concerned with the male sexual organs. Some invovles the implied rape, pleasure or possible torture of females hooked up or bonded to machines in what seems to be a mechanized hell.

His art is truly great and pushes the boundaries of horror and disturbingly weird and even erotic.

What I meant by usual sense is that the face suckers in aliens could be considered to be "raping" the potential hosts to their offspring. I fail to see the differance.

One of the girls also said "I thought it was safe to swallow"... hinting at the bugs. All in all I think people are putting way to much thought into this and should just let it go. Is Something that may or maynot have happened offscrene really worth it, is it really harming anyone?

The problem with being "edgy" is that if the work in question is garbage, it just comes off as puerile attempts to shock (possibly because they are). That scene in DNF is garbage, complete with an unfunny punchline. Giger's art covers similar scenes, but because it's good, its use of the same subject matter is fine. When you dance on a tightrope, it helps to have a sense of balance.
